If you are soldering anything onboard it should be 8GB or 16GB. GeForce MX230 is barely more powerful than the onboard graphics.Really what justifies this price? Think about it £800.00 Many laptops recently listed on this site are superior to this!

I put this up as in the process of looking for a new laptop. Could you point me to the examples that are £300 cheaper with similar spec as I’ve not seen any recently that are available?

What on Earth are you even trying to say? You say it's overpriced, and then immediately say the processor is great, the screen is great, the SSD is great, the amount of RAM is great....

You're saying it should be £300 less because it weighs 1.5 kg (which isn't particularly heavy) and because one of the RAM modules is soldered on? What?

And the MX230 is very much significantly better than the on-board graphics of the i7-10510U.

Why he thinks a laptop with a much better processor, 50% more RAM, twice the hard drive size and a dedicated graphics card for £300 more isn't a hot deal compared to a deal that no longer exists is his choice, but it's a silly and irrelavent comparison imo.

Is that not basically 8GB RAM? How does the extra 4GB work?
4Gb soldered on the board and a single socket with an 8Gb memory module in it?

Correct me if I'm wrong, since it is not matching pairs (8GB+4GB), I assume the RAM is not in dual channel?

For awhile now Intel have had a technology built into their chipsets callled 'Intel Flex Memory' allowing missmatched RAM sticks to run in Dual-Channel flex mode.

I think Intel's flexible mode means that the first 8GB is in dual channel mode and the last 4GB is in single channel mode.

I mean use cases that need such a powerful processor. Stuff like video editing or design work.

Obviously it will be fine if you are just browsing the Web, but so would a laptop much cheaper.

There are plenty of use cases where a powerful processor is beneficial without the need for a top-of-the-end graphics card, e.g. running code.

Even besides that, it's still beneficial as the laptop will boot faster, programs will open faster etc.
