Great tablet for the price, brand new only just released updated model of the iconia a3-a30 with much improved specs a full hd 1920 x 1200 screen, dolby dts technology with support for virtual surround 32gb storage as standard and android 6.0 marshmallow out of the box.

Not many merchants selling in the uk as of yet (probably due to it being a new release) though its going on amazon.co.uk for £271 cheapest option so £179 from argos is a steal I think. I was looking at a tablet from lenovo for the exact same price when I saw this and it has much better specs.

A friend of mine got this yesterday. He's really impressed with it
Thanks for this
Been offered a nexus 9 unused for £140, would I be better off getting this?

(birthday gift for the missus)

If I were you, i would definitely go for nexus 9, for it's 4:3 ratio screen, and always available latest ROM.
Looks good but i think i stil go for the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet K1 over this.

Mmm.. depends on your requirements.
Nexus 9: Getting on a bit now but still a very good tablet. (i've got one). Top of the range model, great performance, ace screen quality and the 4:3 ratio is ideal for reading/browsing. Also, the two front facing speakers are better than most for listening to videos etc. Google has recently announced no guaranteed android updates after Oct 2016. The 16GB variant does not allow much room at all for storing videos, games, music etc. No micro sd expansion slot.
Acer: Mid range model, with a spec to match. Has microsd expansion. Same price on acer's uk website. Perfectly ok (probably) but nothing to get excited about.

Me: 32GB Nexus 9 - defo. 16GB Nexus 9 - as long as on-board storage limitation is not a deal breaker, at £140 new, it tips the balance for me over the acer.

I came here to see if anyone had compared those haha.
I am torn too, was looking to buy the shield but I haven't decided yet.

I don't really care about the game streaming of this one but I would like to play my android games with a controller. I wonder if I would be better off buying another tablet and seeing if there is an app to do keybinds with a wireless ps4 controller or something. Hmm

The Shield is better, it may have a smaller screen but the spec is better and is cheaper. Also you know Nvidia will support the Shield with more regular software updates. Acer will leave this at Android 6 and release another tablet with a slight spec bump with a new Android version.

Yeh I'd actually prefer the slightly smaller screen tbh. Had 10" tablet before and didn't really get on with it.

I thought it was silly just to buy this tablet for keybinds but tbh I don't think it is. It's a good usp and good spec tablet = will do everything I want and then some. Cheers
Another vote for Shield Tablet
shield is way more expensive though surely?

Nope, RRP is £149.99 and always has been. Can be found for cheaper if you look around.

If it helps I've had the K1 tablet for around 7 months and I think it's the best tablet I've ever owned. I went through several before but it's the first one that I've been completely happy with. It's fast, supports ext storage and games and video apps work perfectly on it.

I actually prefer the slightly smaller screen size as well. I had a 10" windows tablet before it and I found it was too big to use comfortably on planes and stuff.

My only complaint about the k1 is that the battery life isn't as good as I would like. It's still decent but not Nexus 7 2013 decent.

They do and they don't. Nvidia's focus is clearly on their Shield set top boxes and some of their decisions regarding game support on the k1 tablet make zero sense. Like Portal, HL1 and Ep1 are compatible but Ep2 isn't. You can side load it and apparently it works perfectly but you shouldn't really have to, especially if you're trying to go legit. Some of their biggest game ports like MGS Rising Revengance also don't run on the tablet officially.

Not really a big deal though unless you want the shield for its bespoke gaming features and that also means shelling out for the controller. The games tend to be pricey too unless you wait for a sale. E.g. Borderlands 2 just came out but it costs 15 quid.

Ugh, mediatek. Guessing battery life will only be average.

I use the Nexus 9, it's flawless. Handles everything I throw out of it and it's successfully put the iPad out of commission
What size??
How's the sound on this model I have the previous one and it's terrible

such as where?
Shield K1 is a better tablet at a better price. An unused Nexus 9 at £140 is a steal.
IMO the Nexus 9 is the perfect size.

Thanks! I will 99% be at home with it so battery life isn't too much of an issue to me. If that is the only bad thing about it then it's perfect lol.

Cheers.

The battery life is ok although it suffers slightly when you're running the nvidia games on it. Before the k1 my last android tablet was a Nexus 7 2013 and the battery life on that thing was superb but obviously that had other problems.
The Shield K1 is out of stock everywhere on the internet, either due to production delays or it's been discontinued. Only places with stock are significantly > RRP.
Hi Argos discount code:15% - HWARES15 doesnt appear to work, when you go to checkout, there is an option to input the code, and the system says "code has being applied " but the 15% does not come off the price

It seems like they are planning to replace it with an updated model.

What would people go for? This or a fire HD10 they are both around the same price?
The fire does not have pure Android ; might be an issue for some

"The new Fire HD tablets debut Amazon's latest Android-based operating system, Fire OS 5 Bellini. The updated user interface has a fresh design that's easy to navigate and new features to enhance watching video, gaming and reading. Though it runs a modified version of the Google OS, you don't get the full breadth of Android apps available in the Google Play store. Instead, you have the Amazon App store, which is highly curated and somewhat limited in its selection. It's a downside to the Amazon OS, but if you don't care for downloading many apps, it's not a big deal."
Quick question for anyone who has this tab, please

One review has said the sound is not great, when using headphones, can someone if this true

Thanks
