Kindle paperwhite £89. Been looking for this for my son for Xmas who loves reading, lowest I've seen recently. Was tempted to get cheaper £59 basic one but apparently with light it's much better? Could someone add photo for me. Hope this is useful for someone!

Paid £99 a few months back from Sainsburys, thought that was good.

And yes, the paperwhite is much better than the standard one

Good price. Yes the Paperwhite is much better, you can read in the dark and not disturb anyone else by having to keep a light on.

Is this the newest version of paperwhite

Good find. £83 @ Best Buy Orlando, just in case anyone is reading this on holiday. HEAT ADDED

Voted HOT Looking for one of these for my mom, she is 73 years old, do you think this would be better or the Kindle Fire HDX which is £99 atm I think on Amazon? I am totally new to these, and have no idea which one to go for :/. With the Kindle fire, can I put movies on there for her to watch? Thanks to anyone who helps.

That's a good price!
OP: I've moved the category to computers, as not many people will look for a Kindle in the "kids" category

been looking for a good price for my son for christmas many thanks OP. heat added

what size ssd is this version and please advise processor?

That's an excellent price. Heat added. Price should keep falling though as new model 'kindle voyage' expected soon.

I see what you did there...

Great price. And op: I've got the basic one, and if I had the choice right now between this price and the basic one, I'd definitely go for the Paperwhite. Easier to read, and much much better to read at night.

Paperwhite is definitely a better option than standard and worth the extra - being able to read in the dark/low light without a separate light is very useful.

When I got it from Argos few weeks back, it was discounted to £90 and they were offering 2X £10 vouchers! I saw on telly last couple of days that they are offering 2X£10 vouchers again for e-readers/tablets over £100 so do check if the Kindles are included in this.

One thing though, don't bother paying extra for 3G, I never used it on the older model that I got. Waste of money as WIFI is sufficient in my opinion.

For another £40 i would go for a tesco hudl 2 instead as you can do so much more with it.

But of course the one thing the Hudl2 cannot do is e-ink - which is the prime reason for buying a dedicated ereader.

I'm not sure this will apply as the price is below £100. Should still get 1x £10 voucher if you bought a case with it. I agree with the 3G comment. Complete waste of time for most people.

I think that you may be eligible for the £5 gift card as well...

Great price, got it for £99 on Amazon recently, back up to £109 now. May contact them re price match actually...

Amazing deal. I was gutted I missed out on the £99 at amazon. Hope this stays this price on Friday (Payday)

Just reserved for collection but noticed that this is the old 2013 version (1st Gen) and not the 2014 (2nd Gen).
The bar code listed on Argos website is: 0848719020502 and after a quick search on Google it shows as the old 2013 version
Can anyone confirm this??

You're comparing apples and oranges. One is an ereader, the other a tablet. Each excel in doing different things.

They're €99 on Amazon.de at the moment, not sure if they ship to the UK though.

i thin you should be able to reserve it on Thursday for collection on Friday. That should hold the price.

if the main thing is reading i would go with a kindle paperwhite...will your mum ever use it to watch movies or do anything else on? i have an ipad and i downloaded the kindle app and i have never used it for reading the paperwhite is just easier theres no glare when reading u can read it in sun no problem

Hot hot hot!

Btw you simply cannot compare ereaders with tablets.

Was looking to get the basic new touch kindle. £59 at Argos, but is the Argos version with, or without, special offers?

Had a look on amazon site and that EAN does not actually show up on there system.

amazon.co.uk/gp/…y=0

The 2013 and 2014 have different EAN to that.

So not entirely sure

I think I'll go to collect tonight and see what it says on the packaging, does anyone know if I would be able to tell from the packaging if it is the 2013 or 2014 model??

They are easy to tell apart, the old one has Kindle written on the back. The new one has Amazon written on the back. Ask them to confirm it is the 2014 model when you collect, then open it up in store. This is the latest paperwhite
From Argos site, I have high lighted why.

The New Kindle Paperwhite combines the best hardware and reading features, a huge book selection and much more into one clever device. With a 6 inch touch screen and the capability to store 1100 books, this device includes the latest display technology and Next Generation built-in light, saving your eyes from any strain!

Is there actually any difference for the paperwhite 2013/2014?

From Wikipedia its only the basic/voyage that are updated.

en.wikipedia.org/wik…dle

For the US however they get an uplift from 2Gb to 4Gb on the paperwhite, but I don't think that this is the same for the UK.

Cheers

For info:

Just ordered for home delivery. Offers free delivery when ordering but the email confirmation adds a £3.95 charge. However the charge on my card is the correct £89, so panic over!

Thanks. I've bought one of these to save my eyes when night reading! I'm using a Kindle Fire atm but I'm worried about my eyes, plus the battery is rubbish, plus it's heavy. So thanks OP!

There are slight differences.

Paperwhite 2 was released on September 3, 2013 so the 2013 model equals the 2014 model IMHO.
The only thing I found was the reference to the US version having an uplift to 4Gb in 2014.

If you look I have highlighted Next Generation light that is the main difference. Some people complained about the First Generation light being blotchy at the bottom of the screen.
It also has a feature called Vocabulary Builder, which stores the words you have looked up in the dictionary and a slightly faster processor. I personally would go for whichever model I could buy cheaper, there's no real worthwhile difference between the two.
