Amazon= tenner more, no warranty
AO= tenner less, 1 year warranty

If you want the warranty go for AO, they're an electrical specialist, Amazon are great with returns but once the return period is over, if theres no warranty there is no obligation for them to do anything

Your confused as you get 1 yr warranty direct with LG (manufacturers) where ever you buy it as long as it's new including Amazon. If it's refurbished it's up to the vendor if they provide a refund or replacement etc...

Should also add 3D Blu-ray to the title

Ahh I seeeeeee

Well I still don't think the extra tenner is worth it, because AO are extremely good with repairs, being an electrical specialist, plus eBay has PayPal support, which is ridculously in favour of the buyer, so you are guaranteed even more than Amazon I would say, despite Amazon's great CS

I would disagree - £10 discount for a refurb versus a brand new item is not exactly great. Only just over 5%!! I would just take the brand new and be comfortable that's it's never failed previously and any warrantee is supported by the manufacturer...
Amazon give the minimum EU 2 year warranty without fuss, they just need reminding sometimes

I have sent a faulty pair of headphones back at 20 months with free returns and the new ones delivered in 2 days.

Well not saying you're lying about the return, but under the Sales of Goods Act UK, we opted out of the 2 year warranty EU system and instead only given warranties/guaranties count

So basically you just got lucky/someone rlly stupid in Amazon CS, the 2 year warranty on electrical products is a myth in the UK

Not a liar, but if you show this to the supplier it might help http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/guarantees-returns/index_en.htm

When did we opt out ?
Excuse my ignorance, but are the 4 towers connected to the system by wires?? so you would have your room covered in cables??

Looks great to me ^^ Im broke atm but if not I woulda bought one myself

Because the Sales of Goods Act (SOGA) overrides this particular law as it 'exceeds the protection for the public on electrical goods compared to the EU derivative'

So, no we do NOT get the EU 2 year warranty, the SOGA in the UK overrules it in this case which means generally only the given retail/supplier warranties count in the UK

See here for full, political, boring, explanation, but no we do NOT get the mandatory EU warranty

Yes read about this, you have up to 6 years to claim against a retailer if you feel the product should last longer than the statuary manufacturers warranty.

No word of a lie this came in handy when a carpet cleaner failed after about 30 months and started smoking.

Was refunded with a sad face by the retailer...

Mate you're like 3 months late...

2nd hand is not a comparison for a new sound system, its like saying to anyone buying a budget/low cost anything 'yeah but you can buy 2nd hand *insert expensive product here* for double the price'

The whole point of this was a decent, budget sound system, so people DONT spend 300+ on one.

And you've recommended a used one for 300 quid? nah man

DatAlbino, yes it's 3m, but I'm looking now. Hence checked here first for deals. Next, having heard the 9840, there is a world of difference between it and the 5540. Hence, waiting on eBay to list the 9840 to be had under best offer £250.

I agree with you, the extra 100-200 quid will buy you a much better system, but that is true of everything

This is for people on a budget for a decent sound system, or was at least ^^

Used for 300 quid is not what I would call budget, personally
