Will never get another LG.

G3 failed.
G4 bootloop

Each time worst customer services ever.

Also slowest ever update cycle, if they even bother to do one.

Given up on LG

This is a 2019 phone with mostly flagship specs, and this is a midrange price. Really good value. Motorola One Zoom costs the same, with a midrange processor; this is a luxury phone.

Yes, they don't have the best cameras, or biggest batteries, but they're not far behind the best in overall quality, and they've sorted their software support. You just have to handle one of their last models to appreciate their quality.

G4 was the last model with the issues. G5 and V20 onwards they never had a single issue.

Me to, 2 phones bootlooped to oblivion and the customer service was pretty poor both times.

This has slightly worse specs than regular G8 ThinQ, not sold in UK this time round, and is less ergonomic.

P30 Pro is Huawei top of the range, costs £150 more with warranty, at least, has better cameras (this may give you more manual controls over photo/video settings, that some people like) and it's more ergonomic.

It also has better battery life, LG better wired sound/speakers. Design-wise Huawei probably more premium feel, software wise I'd prefer LG's interface, some nice smart settings.

All in all, I'd say Huawei is a better phone, but more expensive, better fundamentals, unless you're a serious fan of music/videography/manual controls in photography

Thank you so much for the detailed reply! The Huawei only came into my budget with the O2 refresh deal (which I missed ) so looks like this could be an alternative if I decide I don't want to stretch to the new £428 price tag. A bit put off by the other comments though especially as it's ringing bells that I had an LG phone years ago that was very buggy.

Fine, but that's in the past, LG phones have improved along with rest of industry, since V30 they turned corner and have made very good phones. Some people still love their G6s. They've also caught up in software update front with major rivals. It's 2019, not 2015.

You're welcome, if you could find V40 around this price I think it could be an even better buy. That's probably the best phone LG has made, though G8 has better battery life.

Here actually

I have the LG V30, which I love, was reading some of the specs which are mostly similar, hifi DAC etc. It's a beast for this price point.

How is v40 better?
FunkiestMonkey23/11/2019 21:55

How is v40 better?

Cameras on this not as good as 'American' G8 (ThinQ), even though that one has only 2; screen resolution not as good either, and a few other features.

V series is best LG package, it always has been.
Headphones jack?

Don't think so, they switched G series to oled this year I believe. Have G7 and I have to say, I don't miss oled at all, even in low light

Big differences between the G8 and G8s are screen res, screen size, camera modules and base RAM/ROM.

As everyone has mentioned I have had dreadful experiences with thier boot loops on previous phones. Everyone I have know had the same issue without fail so the lies LG spewed out about a small number of phones effected was complete bull****. Out of 4 people I knew we all had the issue

I suppose I've been lucky because I've owned a G2, G3 and G6 LG phones and all have been fantastic. My current G6 is nearly on 2 years and still going strong. I went on holiday with a group this year and virtually all the photos used were mine as they came out better than than than everyone elses. Battery still lasts all day. I even dropped it in a sink with running water once and all that happened was the phone told me to dry the usb-c socket before charging! I understand the people on here with bootlock issies still being bitter, but that was a long time ago. I wanted to give views from another perspective. I'd buy a G8 in a heartbeat, the only reason i dont is that i don't actually need it!

I've not paid much attention to this model bit the LG g8 x looks amazing. Dual screen within the case provided is a multitasking dream imo. However, I can't find this on contract anywhere?

No, it isn't available in the UK yet, only place I've seen it is amazon Germany, and amazon US, both ridiculously overpriced, however, the same phone is on Wonda Mobile (in the form of the v50s) for a more pocketable £609

I wouldn't say caught up. The LG G6 did get Android Pie but just last month, after Android 10 was released, so not exactly speedy. So could be worse as it did get it, but not exactly inspiring.

They've upped game considerably, compared to previous shambles - I also noticed their Pie build has been very well thought-out, advantage of taking your time (not that I'm justifying delay, really excessive)
