NEW Minecraft ('Bedrock Edition') XBox One - FREE or Price of DLC (£1.59)

Could be I am misunderstanding here, but if you played this at a friend's house (for 5+ hours) or bought any DLC, you should get the latest version of Minecraft for free. I am going to log my sister's account in to my game at some point this week to test it, but if nothing else, surely buying a skin pack for £1.59 or so would do the job (could the free skin packs even work)?

Sorry I am talking crap - figured Buzz or one of you fine gamer types who aren't at work would set me straight, but can't see why it wouldn't work?

Q: How long will the Better Together Update be available as a free download to players who own the console version of the game?

A: Owners of the disc version of Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will have until January 30th 2018 to have played Minecraft for five or more hours in the past 12 months OR purchased a DLC Pack. There is no cutoff for digital Minecraft: Xbox One Edition owners.

OWNERS of the disc version.

So if you borrow the disc and play for 5 hours then, yes, you can get it free as it thinks you own the disc.

DLC - again, only if you've bought the DLC (in game) through the disc version.

Still doable for free if you can borrow a disc and play for 5 hours.

Ah, really? Didn't think it would (be able to) check if it was disc version or not...

Can of worms = opened over to you Buzz
So confused by all the Minecraft versions.
We've got: the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft, bought under one Microsoft ID.
2 licensed PC copies, both of which have redeemed their free Windows 10 editions of Minecraft

We now have an Xbox one. I assume I'll need to buy yet another copy? And will each of the licensed PC userids be able to log in as those IDs, or do you only use your Microsoft IDs for the new bedrock edition?

Yes you are talking crap but your assumption regarding the 5 hour play time is spot on.

Bugger. So is it that you have to have a disc and be 'Player 1' for this to work? If so, as pbyron1 says, then I guess if you can borrow a disc it isn't bad (or buy from CeX / resell a few days later), but not really the deal I was hoping for - feel free to delete this post (unless you think it is still useful enough)?

If you don't already own Minecraft for the Xbox One, then you may need to buy it again (I got it when the X1 was still quite new for £4.99 as I owned it for the 360, but I don't know if that is still the case?).

If you own it digitally for the X1 (as I obviously - given the above statement! - do), then this edition is free.

If you have it on disc (given you/your kids obviously play it a lot), this should be free to download as I'm sure they'll have played it for the allotted 5 hours.

There seems to be conflicting info. The official word is...

"You can get this fancypants new version of Minecraft for free if you already own an edition of Minecraft for Xbox One, and you’ll get the Better Together Update automagically on Android, iOS and Windows 10. If you own the Xbox One Edition of the game on disc, be prepared for a short wait before your free download of the new Minecraft is available - we'll work as fast as we can, but it may take a day or two to process all the requests!

We’re still working on getting this new version of Minecraft ready for players on Nintendo Switch. We want to make sure that everything is ready to bring this platform onboard, and there’s a lot of work to do to make that happen. After all, no one has ever done anything like this before in the history of gaming. We expect to be ready with the free Better Together Update on Switch this winter.
"

With no mention of a requirement of time played. My copy of Minecraft updated over the weekend to the new version with new tile graphics. [Official link]
Android versions - Does that include through the Amazon store?

If that's the case, then this isn't a deal at all and I'll definitely delete it!

Would have thought if this was the case that it would just work with the older version (with disc) forever more tho...

Will see if I get time to try playing as my sisters account tonight and see if it unlocks for her.

Thanks folks.

Log in on xbox one with old 360 id and you may still ne able upgrade for small price was around £3

You could log in to bedrock with either you Windows 10 log in or you microsoft ones.

No, It's still a deal if you can borrow a disc, still works out free (well, for 5 hours 'work') so it's all good.

And works without disc in too?

Yep, once you’ve played those 5 hours and got the access to the new version it’s just the same as any digital download

Thanks pbyron1! So are we thinking that, if you don't know anyone with a disc, you could just buy it from the Microsoft store for £14.99, play it for 5 hours and sell to CeX for £9? Ie £6 for the new Minecraft with 5 hours 'work'?

Alternatively, I can't see if this is the disc or download - but as it comes with DLC, presumably *if it is the disc edition* (with download codes) you wouldn't need to play for the 5 hours - you would but it for £18, get a load of DLC and sell for £9, So £9 for a ton of DLC and new Minecraft?
Minecraft: Xbox One Edition Favorites Pack

If this isn't the disc version, the Microsoft Store link above also has a 'Favourites' option with "Disc" specified for £2 more.

I've still not had chance to play with my sisters account on the download version (pesky kids and work getting in the way)... So can't confirm or deny if this works yet!

Sorry, I honestly don't know. Think I have the disk for PS3, too... I'd say I expect it would be the same, but I doubt it given Microsoft own Minecraft - makes sense for them to give better benefits to Xbox users...

Also apologies in general, I've still not had chance to check if playing as my sister works - had anyone else managed it (or tried and had it fail)?
