nice ;-)

They just had the older ones in my store. I went to try and find some optical cables but they had none of those either. I picked up couple of the older usb SDHC readers

I rename this reader

sd and a few sony things no-one uses - in one

I just gave it the same name that the previous model had. To be honest, not many people purchasing their card reader in poundland use xD or CF. I thought this was a bonus, because £land were selling another card reader just next to this one that only read SD cards.

I've certainly never used CF and even SLR's are moving toward SD for the foreseeable future. CF is just too expensive to add (relative to the audience).

I still voted hot, poundland has good availability and its way cheaper than pc world!

Only if you can find a poundland deal for champagne

I got this the other week in Darlington, bargain

Looked at these in my local store and they are limited to what they read, seem to favour sony memory and micro sd, no xd or compact flash.

these are about 2 quid from deal extreme, so great find!

If you don't use SD/SDHC you'd be better shopping at a museum.

PS Doesn't do Betamax either!

Seriously - if you're one of the 99% it suits (98% SD, 1% MS) it's unbeatable at this price.

Another well researched and accurate observation. NOT

Are these more reliable than the other ones they have been selling? I know dozens of people who had their cards corrupted by the other card readers the pound shop was selling.

I picked up a couple, not to bad. T

he only down side is it does not recognise 2 cards inserted at the same time, i.e. Sony memmory card & SD card,

Exactly why I won't be getting one. Can't vouch for this but having had an Office Essentials card reader from Tesco I have been wary. It was fine with my CF of the day but soon I began to use SD and had a lot of problems...mainly corruption but worst of all was one SD card i still have..plug that into any computer and the whole PC will hang untill its removed.

All in all not worth the risk.

Haha, you sound like you know a lot. Compact Flash is still the norm in the professional photography world.

These are a fantastic price, reads all the Pro Duo and mini versions, and sd and mini versions, with no need for any adaptors. Got one of these the other day.

Might bung a few on ebay.

Nice toy at low price - like that does micro SD as well as SD

Yeah, it only recognises one card at a time. If two cards are plugged in at once, as soon as one is removed, the other appears instantly.

Can anyone confirm that there slot at the tip of the card reader is for Memory Stick M2? It's about the same size as the Micro-sd slot but unlabelled.

And the best thing is that it doesn't require adapters for micro-sd. I can actually take the micro-sd card straight out my phone, and not hunt for the adapter. I feel like getting more for others as cheap presents. It's so versatile and compact. It's amazing. You hunt around for a good cheap card reader for ages, then poundland gives you something that you decide to "risk" and it goes beyond expectations.

Just a word of warning - I bought one of the Signalex card readers from another deal a few weeks back, and... it corrupted my memory card. I won't be using it again. Reliability is paramount when it comes to stuff like this.

I'd rather spend a bit more on a reasonable card reader than having to spend £££ replacing expensive memory cards and crying over my shreddies about all the photos I've lost. If you've gone out and spent several hundred pounds on a new camera, you'd have to be mad not to get a good card reader. Sometimes cheap doesn't equate to good value, i'd rather own a quality product than throw away crap card reader after another. I'll still vote hot as I'm sure the hotukdeals skinflints will love it.

Yes, I am aware of that but wouldn't expect a 'professional' to buy an all in one reader from Poundland.

Random stats from 2007: 100m cameras sold, 7.5m SLRs. (cnet.com.au/for…htm)

So 7.5% SLRs, Googling showed canon have sold 14 million dslrs and over 10 million consumer dslrs (as of january 2009), so if we extrapolate from there to say that 4/14 of 7.5% cameras use compact flash then you get just over 2% of cameras that use compact flash. Assuming that none of those professionals have bought a new camera when their dslr's shutter wore out or they wanted newer models with better sensors.

So yeah, 1% sounds about right.

You know what it is ?
Poundland NEVER and I mean NEVER have decent deals in Newcastle
Their dvds are crap and aren't even wortha quid - southern areas get each series of Men Behaving Badly for a quid ! And the same with this. it'll not be there, although i will pop in.

Yes! They do a massive range of cables. I'm sure I saw some optical cables there. It puts super-markets to shame.

Edit:
Found this link:
thedvdforums.com/for…554 - They apparently do a 2metre cable.

Top Class, Just what a needed to transfer old mobile memory card stuff to new one:)

Another reason for compact flash readers, is it was used on consumer cams around 4 years ago, I still have a canon A80 from 5 years ago, nice camera, compact flash
shame readers are dying off so fast, and who cares about all those sony formats!

You contradict yourself, there's a lot more Sony memory cards around than CF. Usually in common products, such as Sony cameras, PSP and Sony Ericsson phones

Yes for now but another poster recently pointed out that even Sony are moving to SD. Their greedy pricing is finally killing the MS format - after they've trapped millions!

anyone tried this with windows 7? I plug mine in and it just keeps pinging the new device noise (for ever) and keeps flashing device has malfunctioned on the bottom right so is mine broken or is windows 7 not compatible with it?

EDIT

Correction feels like working now :\

Mine works on Win 7
