New Sky package from Tuesday 12th December

81
Found 11th Dec 2017
From tomorrow morning (9am) the basic Sky package is changing.

The Sky Entertainment base pack will replace the three existing bundles (Original, Variety and Boxsets).

It will be £20 a month, saving £18 on full price, or £11 on what its usually discounted to.

Hope it helps someone, especially if you are about to sign up, or are trying for discounts at the end of contract

Link should take you to the right page but might not be live until tomorrow.

EDIT: Just to add, the email is slightly confusing, it implies box sets are included in the £20 price, but later says box sets are available for an extra £5 a month just have to wait and see

One thing is for sure, Sky has never and will never get any cheaper.
I don't understand why people still feed the likes of Sky and Virgin for services like these. And don't get me started on monthly sports costs...

Does this mean one price for all the current box set content? ie no more tiering!? Is this finally the commitment to rewarding existing customers instead of heavy discounts for 'leavers'

I got the box sets bundle today with multi room & will be paying £37 a month. When this goes live tomorrow what would I pay for the same package then? As I couldn't find any different on the link above
More Christmas gifts from the family Murdock. Not!

How much extra for HD?

Sky’s current pricing suggests you only pay the hd charges for the sports channels these days, all other hd channels are already included in your subscription, what’s mad is that if you have sky q 2tb multi room with sky sports then you get any 4k sports at no extra cost but you still have to pay for hd for any sports content that’s not in 4k or watch it in SD.
Does this mean you can cancel your package with sky mine expires June 2018, but would like to cancel and just have NOW tv?

I've got sky q 1tb with the original bundle and there are very few HD channels included. I've often gone to record something from the menu's and what you would think is a fairly basic channel for it to come up that i don't subscribe to that channel in HD and to select the SD version.
I really don’t understand why HD and SD being different channels or charged differently is still a thing.

With Sky Q promoting 4K and pretty much no tv’s being sold less than 4K apart from very cheap basic ones (and even then they are still HD), they should just scrap the SD ones and just output whatever the TV can receive

I totally get 4K is the new shiny thing so may be a Premium, but HD is like a decade old now! Pain the backside having to find the bbc one had or itv had channel in my favourites or scrolling down just because their archaic system things people want to willingly watch in SD or pay a premium

It’s not me, I’ve just saved them all to favourites, it’s the kids/Mrs. But the principal stands, why do we need seperate channels, surely it would save bandwidth (that they complain there isn’t enough of to stream 4K hence why it’s online downloads instead). Just have 1 channel that streams in HD and then downscale to SD on output of the TV isn’t capable of HD
But then of course they’d loose about 1/3rd of channels so wouldn’t be able to boast about hundreds of channels

Well back in the day they used to charge for Sky+. Then when HD began they stopped charging for Sky+ and instead charged for HD.

I always figured they'd continue that trend and stop charging for HD and swap it to something else, but it didn't happen.
it is 2017 and we are still paying for sky+ which is ultimately tied with sky packages etc. the only reason I use sky is the convenience over free to view boxes and recording features. I do not watch all the repeat telecasts on other channels. Sports and freeview channels are enough including the recording feature.

Always the family getting in the way... I have shipped mine off to their rooms with sky go every man for himself! You are correct quicker they sack of SD the better sick to think I watched euro 2008 in HD.
anyone should be cancelling and getting the current 40 to 60% discount, I know not as good as the 75% of previous years but if you want sky never pay full price. Canned it ourselves though we were on the 75% which Sky thought was 75% but was 84% Sky cant do maths and wont pay the extra they wanted. Might be checking back if this is the case

It's a marketing ploy to get you on a Sky Q, so you think you are getting a good deal, However, when enough (mugs) sorry
punters sign up Ill lay money they will charge you more for 4K sports.

I Remember when BSKyB first came out, if you signed up you got free movies, that lasted a short while until they had enough punters then you had to pay for the movies.

I managed to get box sets for £13 and sports for £20 = £33pm including a 2tb box which I haggled down to £15 install instead of £85 last week. Hope this helps someone as a starting point
Looks like Sky are aligning their TV packages with the NowTV line-up, and next year brings Sky TV via the internet-only - i.e. all Sky channels but no dish installation required.

This is all designed to help them compete against their relatively new tech company competitors in the form of Netflix / Amazon Prime Video / Google Play TV & Movies / YouTube TV / iTunes / Apple TV.
Is this the new monthly pricing structure (I hope not because its s###)

Sky Entertainment £25 + optional add-ons
Sky Kids £5
Sky Box Sets £5
Sky HD £5
Sky Cinema £18
Sky Sports £27.50

= £40 for all entertainment/HD/KIDS
= £85.50 for everything

SKY are pathetic.

I was with them for 7 years and had pretty good discounts throughout the contract then my account got passed on to the executive team because of that.

Now this team think they own SKY outright!,, the're smug, talk down to you, encourage you to find an alternative supplier.
It didn't take much persuasion put it that way.

What makes me laugh is now I got a Now TV box which is part of SKY and I get my package practically for nothing (£1.99 for movies and entertainment for the past 9 months and still going) plus I have quite of few free codes awaiting activation.

Soooo up yours SKY! I bet the Executive team with their smugness are reeling hahaha

How do u get movies for £1.99? With codes?
hishaq3 h, 35 m ago

I have not received no email

So, how many emails have you received?
Thanks, op, for the heads up on this.
I just spent an hour on the phone today, and then cancelled. They did not even mention these new sky packages!
I'm still on sky+, and they want me to upgrade to Q...and pay more, and contract for 18 months. It seems that everything is now 18 months contract, and no more 1 month rolling contracts with a yearly discount, which I have been on for years.
They no longer supply sky+ boxes, and charge £65 call out, if repairs are needed. They even suggested that I get a replacement box off eBay, if I have a problem!! So I guess it't time to leave.
Just been on chat and saying it's only for new customers

Ditto.
When Sky started showing F1, they bizarely didnt put the F1 channels in with the sports ones, but bundled it with the HD package at an extra tenner a month - thats what Im on, much to their annoyance every time I call.
So yeah, HD is still a tenner a month to some. But, its worth it if I get F1.

Got IPTV now, and its, well, not 100% reliable but think I will leave after xmas.
As for the "they will throw packages and deals at you to stay", no. My inlaws had everything except movies, including phone & BB. They didnt receive a single "please stay" call, and 1 month after they left, got as single token email offering 40% off just ONE bundle.

I was astonished by the poor selection of HD channels on Sky's Original Bundle. I got Sky Q free with my TV but ended up paying £16/pm for box sets just to get the additional HD Channels. Not sure what I will do when the renewal comes up, I'm reluctant to spend much more on the service.
