I can't work out the numbers, 1 III, 2 III, 5IV. Which is the latest?

Any of the IV are the latest.
    1 series - flagship
5 - bit less than 1 but I guess more than midrange?
    10 - midrange/budget
Only got it figured out as I was researching for a while on sony (and eventually got the 5IV)

Why have these slumped so badly? Struggling against Apple and Samsung? I did contemplate one of these before biting on the S23 Ultra instead

They always do, never buy Sony at RRP, as they are guaranteed to drop in price the following minute

I use this phone currently. I would recommend the 1 IV over this in all honesty. Issues with RAM management, screen sensitivity and a much smaller zoom lens. Didn't have these issues on the 1 IV.

Tbh though if you really want to try Xperia I would wait for the 1 V. It's going to be a huge step up and won't have the thermal issues of last year's phones.

I got a Sony years back, and just never really felt it. One of the main issues was too much bloatware.

That was on a cheap deal though so figured it was worth a punt. These days like for like they can't price them competitively vs the opposition.

Theres not much Bloatware on Sony devices.
They add the “pro camera” app and “pro video” app but the rest is close to stock android. (edited)

Perhaps they do, but let's not act like apple, samsung and co have wonderful naming schemes. Everyone seems to have a hard time understanding what the Xperia 5 IV or 1 III is but when it comes to pro, max, plus, ultra, nord, 10t, a34, a20e, gt, fe, x5, m5 etc slapped on other phones, that's apparently absolutely fine. I’d like to try this but it’s a tough sell when high-quality refurb 1 IV’s have been about half the price.

And me. The battery isn't quite as great as it was but still easy enough to last one day. I've got two people who want it when I upgrade but still don't feel the need just yet!

I have an Xperia 1 iv and trying to sell my 5 ii which is in almost mint condition. Not having much luck selling it though. Too many people afraid to learn the manual camera controls.

I had a Sony Xperia Z2 for over three years a while back and it was a fantastic phone. I switched to Samsung after that and whilst I've mostly had no problems, I am starting to get annoyed at them slowly turning into Apple by removing very useful features such as headphone jacks and especially SD card slots.

I may just jump back to Sony after another year or two once I look at upgrading. I hope by then they've improved their camera software and set more realistic RRPs for their phones. I know it's Sony and I know they're "premium," but they aren't a big player in the phone market these days like they are with PlayStation and TVs, so if they want to gain some real marketplace they need to price more aggressively.

Getting rid of the overkill 4K screen on their flagship models would be a good start and help in reducing the price. (edited)

Had mine (got a refurb for £400) for a couple weeks and so far so good. Screen is a bit odd compared to a lot of phones but I like it, good for my small hands lol. Haven't used the camera much but for basics seems good, the extra manual stuff seems nice. No overheating issues so far and have a case on it, but again haven't used for anything intense. Battery is good, going 2 days with moderate use and still have 20-30% left.
Annoying little thing is that it doesn't come with a basic "photo album" app like previous have - just google photos.
Fingerprint sensor works most time although sometimes doesn't recognise anything but think that's cause of the case.
    Overall happy with it though.

This site is not an authorized retailer of Sony UK. That's why it's 256GB. You won't get the official warranty buying from this site.

Is this a genuine and brand-new item? I can't find it in the description. Seems dubious for £648.
