New Tesco Mobile PAYG Tariff - 8p Calls 4p Texts

Tesco Mobile have launched their new 'Lite Tariff' in response to Asda Mobile's cheap rates. It could be good for low mobile users, particularly those who get better reception on O2 (Tesco) than Vodafone (Asda). Also, you get triple Clubcard points for every £1 you top up on Tesco Mobile. The data charges are a bit steep though!

Click 'Go to deal' to see the full list of call charges.

If you buy a £10.00 pay-as-you-go SIM it will only cost you £5.00 at the moment

Do you still get £45 credit for topping up £15? If so good deal.

Pred, think you've got to pay delivery on them now?

Good deal! If it comes with free Internet, it will be brilliant.

Pretty sure you don't get the triple credit with this, so you're better off with the triple credit and your five half price numbers

EDIT: Just checked No you don't get the triple credit

Thanks, not such a good deal in the end then. Maybe for very light users only?

Tesco "triple credit" is not as straightforward as it sounds. The 'paid for' credit and 'free credit' are kept very separate, and for me that is confusing and irritating. For example. I can have next to no 'paid for' credit but plenty of 'free credit' - but I am unable to use free credit to send a text abroad or make an overseas call, for example. So I need to add say £10 to my balance to send a text, even though I have £15 free credit still!

It's too frustrating and it's not right to call it "triple credit" - it isn't, because the added credit isn't the same as the credit you pay for.

Yeh I found it too confusing myself. Also I got the sim for my 10 year old and top up £15 and only got £15 credit. When I contacted Tesco Mobile they said he had not text 'credit' before he topped up therefore was not entitled to triple credit. Told them it was a joke and change his mobile to an Asda sim. Much easier to understand and know how much credit you got left.

Nice try tesco but not good enough, asda still cheaper for data and international calls

does ping a pound work with this tarif?

Yes you still have the 5 fav numbers

Good deal though as the OP said it is a rip off for data - £4/mb!
If you use data then go with Asda a much more reasonable - £0.20/mb

ASDA deal is miles better than Tesco.

Does anyone know if asda charge per second or do they round up to the nearest minut as this can add up to a lot for me as i make a lot of short calls,i know tesco has a minimnum of 1 minute then rounded up to the nearest secound.couldnt find an answer on the asda site.

Asda is per second billing, just like Tesco, and both have a minimum call charge of 8p on their respective cheapo tariffs.

See here: asda-mobile.com/pdf…pdf

Im on tesco staff tariff and its great, if i top up £10 i get £15 free credit, and i can use the free credit for the internet, calls and messages

HOT for me. Handy for anyone on a phone locked to O2.

Been on Tesco Lite for 3 weeks-got 2 free sims.
Used double up with £5 Clubcard Voucher to get top up of £10.
So calls cost me equivalent of 4p/minute-not bad

I'm thinking about getting one of these for my daughter. As I am on a iphone business tariff would I be able to phone her for free still?

ro888;5605883

It would also be great if it came with a free pony and a lifetime's supply of strawberry cheesecake. But it doesn't.

Benjimoron;5606035

What makes you think it might have free internet?

Randomly firing neurons would be my guess.

This deal seems HOT...

How do I get started?
Can I get a sim card for free?

Can anyone with Tesco confirm the minimum top-up (£5 or £10) ? thanks!

I agree - based on this, your calls are 4p and texts just 2p!

Plus the advantage of knowing that you've got 'real' banked credit @4p/min rather than the 'normal' tesco deal that does *crazy* things with your calltime..
(per 30 day expiry cycle @ £10++!..lol) :whistling:

Exactly. Better to know where you are with your credit, which is impossible with the free credit deal. Too confusing, too irritating.

is the minimum top-up £10?

Well I think I have a soultion to any ones problems regarding this. If you like to hear my ideas, then message me.

It's really expensive thou. As I had to make a topup. Eventually got all sorted after I made a few mistakes (messafe me for further info). I just been watchin my call balance. I have made like 2 calls of no longer than 2mins, and sent about 20 texts, and the balance is down to 3.95 from a tenner. Now I like to know, about this so called free credit, isnt truely free, and the rate is jack rather high in my opion.

There is way of getting round this, one thinks.

If I top up 10 pounds does it last until the end of the money or just one month
