The original Triban 3 is a HUKD legend, so much so, that as soon as Decathlon got them in, they sold out!!

Its spiritual successor, is out now, the Triban 5A.

Its a similar spec, but has the new 2013 Sora, with Tiagra style proper shifters, rather than the clicky button, a Selle Italia seat, Carbon Forks, Proper Sora groupset all round.

Its a better spec than the old Triban 3, and that bike is legend. Check out the cycling active reviews, and all the various internet forums set up about it.

Note these Tribans are actually made in Italy by Dedacciai, who make their own branded bikes too, and put Btwin stickers on them. they make all the Deda branded handlebars and seatposts. These are superb value for money bikes. Most other road bikes you see are made in China or Taiwan.

You will have no trouble maintaining 20mph on the flat, or getting up to 40mph plus on a downhill, with a little bit of practice on this bike!

Weight is 9 Kilograms

Do they come with realistic motorbike sounding handlebar grippy thingy?

I saw it instore at the weekend. I'm not sure it offers £100 worth over a Triban 3 (one of my winter hacks) though. The new Triban 3A is a bag of junk though and should be avoided like the plague. Decathlon staff seem to be questioning having it as the alleged replacement for the 3.

And most Tribans are also made in Romania now......

Don't be ridiculous!

What about streamers? Spokey-dokeys? Card in the spokes? Carbon water bottle holder?

Spokey Dokeys, yeah man! I want the multi colour packs no pink though as they clash with my fluro pink shirt

Thanks, I have been waiting for this to come out. Unfortunately, since your post it looks like they've put the price up to £429.99. Still looks like a good deal though for the spec.

I am considering this bike to replace my mountain bike, reason being that i am moving house and will be cycling a further 5 miles each way to work with steep hills, would this bike be better going up hills than a mountain bike due to the lighter weight? and also can you get kevlar tyres for this type of rim like the mountain bike has to reduce punctures? any comments appreciated.

this bike will be way, way faster than a mountain bike up hills, with practice. remember, it the engine (i.e. the rider), so with practice you will fly up hills. if you want to make the tyres utterly bomb proof, then fit 'schwalbe marathon Plus' tyres, and you can pretty much forget about punctures. also continental ultra gator skins or specialized armadillo tyres would work well. amazon, chain reaction and wiggle all stock these tyes. I would recommend buying the size 700x25 for commuting.

Thanks for that! The engine (rider ) has been cycling 10 miles a day, 5 times a week for three years, Ha Ha! So it should manage!
What about the Scwalbe Blizzards? they sound good too, i notice it comes with 700 x 23, is there a reason you would go up to 700 x 25?

not sure about blizzards. I can vouch for gator Skins and marathon pluses. note the marathons will add a bit more weight, so will affect the acceleration of the bike a bit. you could start with Gatorskins which are cheaper (21 quid each from various sites) and see how you get on with those. I have yet to puncture a gator skin in thousands of miles. reason for 700x25, comfier ride, without any speed loss. you feel every single pothole with 700x23 tyres.in fact, many people swear 700x25 is faster, as the bike becomes more stable.

Thanks, went to decathlon to have a
Look, but they only had a white triban 5, was put off with the pedal clips, very nervous to use them, but I notice this

I was put off by "clipless" pedals at first, but they are awesome!! only about £17 on chainreaction

I went to Decathlon walsall and bought a triban 5 (white) I didnt have road shoes and the guy who I spoke to through in some standard peddles with a cage free of charge and fitted them!!! Top service. Also they included a set of lights free of charge too. Highly recommend the triban 5. Only diff between 5 and 5a to my knowledge is the nw sora on the 5a and carbon stays on the 5.

That's the store I went to, I have to say they are very professional, I could not fault them, genuinely friendly and helpful, I was told if I wait a few weeks or so, to ring them and they might have the 5A in stock, I will only need it in a month or so, so that would not be a problem, the only thing I found today is that I have lost the Joy of cycling my faithful old mountain bike and keep thinking about the Triban 5 now!
