We are shielding and our favourite chip shop doesn't offer a delivery service direct. So uber eats was the only option.

A mixed kebab and large chips with the 50% uber eats discount came to £9.15 delivered instead of £14.70.

For some restaurants that previously didn't have a website or delivery service. Under lockdown the choice for some restaurants is to shutdown or invite companies like uber to help them survive the COVID-19 crisis.

User charge each restaurant 30% on every meal. Go direct, save a little and keep the local companies running. Even more important in times like these
With the new fee of 10% the discount will get swallowed up by the fees.
Ubereats has become a bit of a joke recently...

So the prices are about 30% - 40% higher than ordering direct or about 20% higher than ordering though just eat.

The delivery charges are £3-£5 unless its one of the free delivery restaurants ...

And as of last week they have started charging a service fee of 10% on top as well!

I had a £10 off £15 spend voucher for ubereats and placed a £20 order plus delivery. It worked out roughly the same as ordering direct and getting it delivered ....

The way I see it unless you have at LEAST a £10 off voucher (conscious the order size makes a difference) then I would order direct as ubereat app prices are ridiculous...

I understood it pretty crystal. Contacting uber isn't going to make your meal warm or am I missing something?

Can confirm this is currently running.
Used once, arrive 40 mins late, lukewarm, resyaurant not interested & no way to contact Uber. Never again.

The only way Uber will refund you is if you say you got suspended food poisoning because if you say it was cold they don’t care

No not my first refund, had to get a refund recently because a 1/3 of my order didn't turn up.

I don't even get their discounts because the emails say I'm yet to do my first order (which I've made)

i had the same response the other day..i said that the chips in my order had been over cooked and sent a photo. their response was something like how the restaurant can't cook to the preferred temperature of each individual customer they didn't give me any refund
Well from deluge of replies it is clear my decision not to use again is the right one. I seldom have takeaways & there are no shwarama places near me so I was looking forward to trying this; that's the real disappointment, not the cost. You learn.

The way I read it was that there isn't a way to contact them to rectify the issue. For example you order direct from your local takeaway instead of uber and there is an issue. You give them a call and they pop out with a warm one. It may be a little later than planned but it doesnt ruin your plans.

Order direct to look after your local community and get a better service.
I don’t suppose I’ll be eligible for this, despite never having ordered from them. Signed up the last day McDonald’s were open, tried to place an order, it was rejected when the payment was processing, and that was it. Still waiting for McDonald’s to come back. Yet, they’ll probably hold it against me

Exactly. You'll pay more than the discounted £6 for services and delivery fees. Not worth it.

I noticed that they up charged the prices. For example a large bag of chips walk-in direct is £2.40. Via ubereats it's £3.60. So restaurants are combating the uber charges.

You can contact Uber through the app. Though I do admit finding their phone number was a right hassle.
Do you need a code?

Also worth pointing out the price on a lot of things goes up quite a bit just cos you order from here. Sometimes considerably and many examples down where I am. As much as £5-10 for a normal £15 spend in the shop. Then add delivery charge normally around £2-3. I order direct where I can now as generally you save money and I’ve even noticed in some places more food because they’re not given most of the money to Uber
I always get excited when I see 50% off but when it comes to the final bill I end up saving on average 50p compared to normal price
Also worth pointing out if items are missing the customer service is awful. I got offered £0.40 for a item that actually cost me £9.
Great deal. Thanks for sharing!

Sadly you can't please everyone. The drivers are self employed and I'm sure some take more pride in their work than others......and if you throw into the mix any issues with food quality from the restaurant / take-a-way......well.....

I'm sure there will be lot of people who will find your post here in the coming days, who are not HUKD members, who will appreciate it.
Keep on posting!

No thanks, what makes Uber eats think people will pay an extra 10% now?
