Seems to be going through with free delivery now. Mind you, it doesn't look like much of a deal to me. Those sempron processors are too slow these days. Unless you are real tight for cash, I would go for the 6400 that Mike highlighted a couple of weeks ago.

At £327 with a cpu upgrade its not too shabby if your looking for a budget laptop.

business section, but with Vista Home Basic:?

Keep up the good work MikeT, your postings are very much appreciated.

There is one laptop below the one I posted but it is much lower spec and costs £329 delivered, so not a deal!

fully agree Mike

Also remember this comes with Base Warranty - 1 Year Business Hardware Support which is on site with phone support, not the 90 day option we usually get with cheaper laptops.

Mike, any ideal how good the laptop is? IE. Is it a quiet laptop with good build quality?

At the end of the day, this is a laptop at a price a lot of places would charge for a similar desktop machine.

Mike, any info on what ports it has on the back, VGA, 10/100 etc? Too lazy to look:whistling:

will they sell this to me even though im not a business and would want it delivered to my home??

is it worth upgrading to the athlon for the extra £35?

is sempron equivalent to celeron and athlon equivalent to centrino?

how many ghz is the speed of the athlon on this one? enough for vista?

I think the cheaper processor is good enough for web/email/office use. But for £35 I might go for the better one which is dual core because it's the one thing you can't upgrade and I intend to keep the laptop for many years. Both are around 1.7Ghz.

Found the port details at last:

- USB 2.0 (4)
- Integrated 10/100 LAN (RJ45) & 56K8 Modem (RJ11)
- 3-in-1 Card Reader
- VGA video output
- Stereo in, headphone/speaker out

I did have a look but could only find wireless. Getting blinder as the days pass... Re, your comment on what it would be good for. Typical web use/office you can do quite easily on as low a spec as a p3 1ghz (thats what I use day to day lol). The 3500 would be easily capable of converting a DVD rip to HQ Xvid in just over an hour (for comparison the p3 would take about 4!). So not a bad machine at all really, even at its lowest spec.

As its for sale in the Home part of dells site there is no problem at all with it being ordered and delivered to your home

What will the battery life be like?

Full specs and overview here

Great: with the upgraded CPU this beats the hell out of the e-buyer deal I posted yesterday (and prob even without the upgrade). Dell are really pushing the limits on price with this new range.

is it worth upgrading the battery for 11quid?

Of course if you intend being on battery for any length of time over 2hrs go for an upgrade (2 available)

Fantastic. Been watching the Laptop deals for a while now. This may be the one for me (after further deliberation  ) . Great work MikeT!

There are some better photos on the US site:

well worth it. should upgrade to 9 cell battery!

Just a reminder that if you do buy from Dell from anything OTHER than the HOME section - eg from the SMALL BUSINESS section - then I believe you are denying yourself the protection of the Distance Selling regulations - eg will NOT get 7 working days to reject the goods if you don't like what you receive - ie the purchase is FINAL and you get no chance to undo it.

That's my belief based on the T&C's in force when I bought a very cheap LCD TV via 'small business' that way a couple of years back and MAY have changed, but raising it so you consider the issue.

All the offers for Vostro machines I have posted are from the Dell Home site so you are fully covered with DSR.
If I ever post a dell deal from the SB site I always mention the fact so members are aware.

Query for MikeT - I'm looking to purchase my first laptop and wondered if you could advise which offer is best, either this one or the Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop TL56, 1gig, 120Gb, DVDRW, 15.4" Wscreen now £364.32 delivered? I really just need it for surfing the web and email. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

This one, because it's a fair bit cheaper, and it'll easily do what you need.

What he said ^^^^ ;-)

Hi Guys,

bought the Gateway deal that ran and ran to pages (hotukdeals.com/for…way) but am in the process of getting my money back cos of the screen flicker.

Do you have any advice on what would be a comparable machine? I'm guessing that I could could get similar or even slightly better specs for less now...

Thanks in advance,
Rob

Thanks nick_sub and MikeT. Looks like I'll finally purchase a laptop - I've only been looking since Christmas!

 been looking for a week or so. I just ordered one too. Thanks Mike_T!

Excellent deal - if only it had Vista Premium! Yes, I want my cake and eat it

Looks just what I need. Thanks Mike. Not used to Dell site though and can't work out how to get to this deal through the home section can you point me in the right direction?
