This is an extension of the excellent afternoon deal fish+chips, which has now gone up 90p in all branches to £4.99 (soft drink) / £5.99 (alcohol). That's 2-5, Monday to Friday.

This is now 12-10 on Friday, the fish is now bigger (8oz) and batter lighter. It was already very good quality, fresh, light fish and nice batter so will be even better now. A great extra "club" option IMO especially for the start of the weekend. The usual "club" drinks selection applies.

Not yet mentioned on website.

No mention of this on their web site. The online menu still states the usual Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday Clubs.

Saw it advertised last night while visiting for steak night, new menus and a few new meal options as well - plus of course the new prices.

But still fantastic value for more than decent pub grub.

Anyone know what fish is used? Just curious if it is pollock, haddock, hoki...or something else.

its something else, saw a pic of the actual alive fish and it looked like a monster from the blue lagoon! another learned hukdealer will know the name, it tastes fine and is more sustainable than cod or haddock

They are using those 75p Pollock fillets from Asda!

Wouldn't eat there if you paid me, had a few horrible experiences lately and customer services not interested.

Yes new menu and New York hot dog looks amazing

Thanks for the heads-up OP - last couple of times I've been to Weatherspoons we've had a great time (for not much money). So looking forward to going again - especially if the full rack of ribs is as good as it looks!

Yes that rack of ribs looks amazing too its great value and free drink

Im not sure if Wetherspoons and 'very good quality ' can legally be used in the same sentence.

Of course you can... so long as it is the beer which you are referencing...

Good grief theres a load of snobs on here. A hot meal and a drink for £5.99, I think thats a good deal, so its hot from me

It's sustainable 8oz Cod

These places, unfortunately, do attract some dregs of society due to their cheap prices - but you'd be hard pushed to find decent brand names and very good beer at these prices elsewhere.

Yes, it's not a 'pub' in the traditional sense - but think of it like this: McDonalds isn't really a restaurant.

The deal has been running for ages at our local Ws. It is so popular that they run out of both the cod and haddock options!

cheap & nasty food 4 cheap people

Cheap and nasty comment from someone who is to scared to have ever posted a deal himself.

You sound go superior and clueless - what are you on about?
It is a pub in any sense, and does great ales at unbeatable prices.

If you were saying it's not a 'restaurant' in the traditional sense then maybe, as the food is good value but not incredible.

I am not cheap and nasty: I like a good deal, which this one is in actual fact. I am pleased that someone using the ampersand in such a cheap way has so much money to waste.

Looking from the ops recent posts he clearly works for Wetherspoons. In the last day or so he has posted a number of deals for Wetherspoons after the new menu launched on monday,

Either that or he works on behalf of a marketing company.

You've missed my point entirely. Are you a regular?
They are not pubs.
They are cheap drinking establishments that have the rigmarole and routine of any large company. Pubs are small drinking establishments owned privately or by breweries, where you can have a catch up with the locals at the bar, squeeze the barman's bum (or landlady's tit) and have a homely, well-worn feel.

Always good to hear of problems
so please enlighten us.
Thanks.

I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to food but to be fair to Spoons the value and quality isn't bad at all, especially compared to many other pub chains offerings.

I've found 'spoons food quality to vary greatly from branch to branch. In Wolverhampton, I think it was, some years ago, I had the worst pub meal I'd ever endured. But normally the range runs from acceptable to very good.

This is a good deal for left-footers like me. Thanks for the post, OP!

I disagree with the comment saying that wetherspoons is not a pub, it is a pub - it is not a restraunt. Its simply a chain pub that offers good value pub grub (the best of the pub chains I think - if you compare it to some others eg John Barras, The Original Pub Co) and cheap drinks!

I don't go in a huge amount, but when I do I like them.
They are pubs, you just seem to have a dated and idealised view of what a pub should be.

I've been in plenty of wetherspoons pubs that are 'cosier' and considerably smaller than privately owned pubs. Nice decor, comfy seats, open log fires in the winter, and beers almost half the price of other places.

We go to Spoons for lunch from work. It has its ups and downs, there are your characters who go in every day, all day, but the food is fine for its cost and as a company they seem to be a good employer. For us we could all wander separately and get a sandwich or something but for a few quid more you can get a plated meal. Did notice last night the prices had gone up but were still cheaper than the other pubs. For a change once we tried O'Neills for sunday lunch and the quality was much worse even though they charged more.

Ahhh home of the ping microwave technican

I would be careful of this, they defrost fish by running under hot water, pretty nasty.

We use Wetherspoons for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner at various times when home, nearby or travelling. Occasionally the food is not as good as other times but I have had superb rare Aberdeen Angus Steaks, and a similar Rib Eye on Steak Night. They are a little formulaic but the other side of that coin is consistency. Looking forward to trying the new fish club night as long as it is sustainable and not Pangasius which are often farmed in polluted Asian rivers (they are basically bottom-feeders and can pick up heavy metals etc)

Our local Wetherspoons is exactly that - good food, cosy rooms with log fire and excellent customer service. Guess it depends where you live.

Well he's doing his job very well then lol!

Should be down to £5.98 after the budget!

Great deal I'd say. All the Wetherspoons I've been in have all been very different - the one usual feature is too few staff for the number of customers. Went to East Grinstead yesterday mid morning and just one poor girl working with a queue about 12 deep, so we just left. Steak in Swansea not very good, steak in York really excellent, but only got literally 7 chips, and when I told a staff girl, she brought me (literally) 4 more - a bit insulting I thought. Don't know if they'd run out of chips. The duty manage made a point of coming over at the end to ask if everything was ok, and I said the steak was excellent, but something went wrong with the chip portion, and he asked me what I expected for £7 (strange, since I'd paid £9), guess that's Yorkshire grit or something. Worthing seems to have been a **** 80 year old club when we visited there, but we did our bit and stopped the really **** old men from falling over (literally) on the way to the bogs a couple of times, don't mind that.. Wetherspoons are great as far as I'm concerned.
Tim should
- get more staff and
- start a charitable foundation to buy up and preserve the character of the proper local pubs his very good business is destroying.

Thanks...It is cod according to the image uploaded by oliverliddard.

Wow they can live a long time according to: en.wikipedia.org/wik…Cod (as long as they aren't caught and eaten that is!)
