Great phone, but I really do feel its hard to justify anything over £250 for a phone these days, with just how good these 'super mid range' devices are now. The 9T at sub £200 is fantastic, for one.

I'd argue that most people don't use more than 10-12 apps regularly, all of which probably run fine on any current phone.

Not slagging off the deal though, sure it'll be a hit for many!
i hate this cut out hole for the front camera
much prefer what they did with the sliding cameras
The price of this will fall drastically after all the snapdragon 865 phones come out, we're still waiting for htc, sony, LG, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, lenovo and asus.

Probably cheapest snapdragon 865 will be with lenovo or asus zenfone range. Though I am still holding out hope for pocofone f2. Honestly I think the Mi10 will be around £420 in a few weeks time. Thats how it was for Mi9

Indeed this is half the price of the Samsung with the same camera and chipset.

Agreed I even like the Samsung A80 setup.

I'd go pro personally. China version, hoping the global is cheaper than this.

Is it the same camera components or just the same 108 megapixel number?

I'd go pro personally, you need to add £21 on for delivery mate.

Well, HMX Vs HM1 in the S20 ultra, as this one can't do 9:1 pixel binning. We shall see if it matters though...

As GSMArena says "Naturally, you can expect plenty of parallels and comparisons to be drawn between this Samsung Nonacell camera and the one found inside phones like the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro. While somewhat justified, we don't necessarily feel like that comparison is appropriate on all levels. We still need to dig-up the entire story when it comes to the inner-working and "tricks" Samsung uses to leverage the main S20 Ultra snapper. There are definitely differences worth investigating and considering."
What a beast!

True, but you won't get those good mid range phones if there weren't ppl purchasing the higher end phones and pushing the envelope.

Having lived with the Mi Mix3 i'm looking forward to getting the Mi 10, the sliding camera was a gimmick that quickly wore off. It makes the phone heavier and it's a massive dust trap.
Get me one too eh @kypsolo old pal ;}

Not really lol, s20 ultra £1200 mi 10 pro £650
So I can't seem to find if there will be import duties/customs tax to pay since they don't mention it anywhere. Anyone got any idea?
Looking to jump from my iPhone XR do it or not!?
Am I better waiting for the pro or global version to release..
I was tempted by the Mix 3 5G due to cost in case I jump back to my iPhone.

The motorized camera like the Mi 9T.
Not insanely expensive but pro will be better. but I'm waiting for the one plus 8 pro as the software is leaps and bounds better than any android device
Also these aren't true 5G as they don't support mmwave.

You meant don't support mmwave right? God knows when they'll roll that out in the UK though. Everyone so slow apart from EE but I'm not paying 44 quid a month for their 5g.
I'm still using a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and it runs perfectly. But the camera is terrible so thinking about upgrading to this. Seems expensive right now though compared to what I paid a couple of years ago for the Mi Mix 2.

The global version just has more languages added this has English still, you just have to load google play services which is straight forward enough.

100% agree. It's crazy how good sub £300 phones are nowadays. I bought an Honor Play around a year ago for £199 and has been mistaken to an iPhone XS Max a few times. Day to day my phone flies with no lag, and couldn't be more happy with it really considering the price I paid.

I also remember the days when iPhones were being slated for being overly expensive for what they are, but now the mainstream manufacturers seem to be following suit.

Most flagships do the same as each other at mostly the same speed/efficiency nowadays, which is why the race always seems to be on to improve the camera this way or that way, when the average user only wants it to take pictures to upload on social media.

Never had a Xiaomi phone, but the 8, 9 or 10 all look to be a decent prospect if consider changing, or need a new phone any time soon. Would have a wait before going for the 10 though as too expensive for me right now.

Or maybe I'm just getting old.

Insane pricing for a Xiaomi phone. They are going the OnePlus way.

500+ for a phone from China with no warranty. If this was sold in the UK then it would be at least £600.

Good luck if you ordered it!

I didn't order it but in terms of material costs and Xiaomi making some sort of profit on it I think xiaomi gives you value here. Samsung s20 however.

I bet the mi10 would outperform the s20 ultra in benchmarks since Samsung are still opting in for exynos on all european models of their phones. I don't see exynos winning in any way against the snapdragon 865, maybe battery life, but gaming surely snapdragon will win

The way phones like Xiaomi, Vivo, etc haven shaken the market, I do agree with you. Long may they continue shaking the system just as Lidl and Aldi have done.
jaju12314/02/2020 16:21

Pixel binning 27mp on the Xiaomi versus 12mp pixel binning on the Samsung. Samsung should have better computational photography than Xiaomi, but Xiaomi do have an R&D department setup for this now. Also this has an extra lens for the main camera over the previous Mi Note 10. If you ignore the DXOMark score and just look at their tests you can witness the improvements over the Mi Note 10.

So is the Samsung S20 Ultra 5G worth £700+ over this phone? In terms of what Samsung is likely to achieve that's a massive no, there will be other Samsung hardware improvements such as the panel etc but either way the Ultra is a pricey phone, but people will pay for it and in many cases they will just absorb it with a £60+ pm contract.
