They are claiming the new processor is more efficient on this one. Doubt it will make much odds. Still better this than nearly 300 quid refurbished Apple phone that’s years old.

I used to think like this but with quick charge technology.... Spend another £15 on a decent charger think that's better.
I was hoping they would make it waterproof.
Ohhhh...well this is disappointing. I didn't spot this first! (Lol) goods spot damn you heat added
Is this much better than the mix 2? I see it'll be on sale for £270ish

Watched the launch this morning and the launch prices are 6gb / 64gb 3299 yuan = £370 and the 6gb / 128gb 3599 yuan = £404 and the 8gb / 256gb 3999 yuan = £448. So that is quite a mark up of £72 for the 6gb / 64gb. I think should hang on for about a month to see if they drop nearer the launch price. Also no mention of AMOLED display that's not to say it isn't but would have thought they would have mentioned it and only the 8gb / 256gb comes with the wireless charger supplied but the charger can be bought separately with a £12 rrp but will probably be a bit more

Display is an IPS LCD, not AMOLED.

I thought as much only mentioned it because on my Mi Mix 2 deal post a few were convinced this was coming with AMOLED

Good for some but I travel a lot often with little access to power outlets at times...I'd rather have a decent battery.

Think I'm going to go for a Vernee X with a 6200MaH monster battery in it....(and quick charge):-)

Slower midrange CPU but plenty fast enough for most needs
one of my kids has a Vernee phone, decent phones.

£162 in the sale tomorrow....
Kevin_Kane3 h, 17 m ago

Is this much better than the mix 2? I see it'll be on sale for £270ish

Newer CPU (Snapdragon 845)
Ships with android 8, miui 9.5
USB C (but usb 2.0 spec)
Wireless charging capability and NFC
Better cameras

Like the mix 2, it should be noted this lacks the beloved 3.5mm audio jack.
Not exactly a deal though is it. More a heads up that the phone's been released. Agreed the spec respresents good value for money, as with most Xiaomi phones. I do think they're missing a trick by sticking with MIUI instead of Android One.

There is a USB C to 3.5mm adaptor in the box. I have the MI6 and used this until recently not much of a inconvenience just a little longer, but i have now bought the new xiaomi dual driver active noise cancellation USB C earphones so no need for the adaptor they pretty good at ANC and after a bit of playing around with the poweramp grafic equaliser have now got them sounding quite nice they are £33 on gearbest but not quite as nice sounding as the xiaomi triple driver HD pro

It is indeed a mentally good specced phone for £107 (4/64) or £163 (6/128) Someone should post it as a deal

Ulefone power 3 is $225 in sale tomorrow and looks very similar too
Yes this is better than the Mix 2, but £170 better? I don't think so. And where as all Mix 2 skus support B20 only the 256gb 2S does )at least according to Android Central).

I agree, but as it comes with Oreo, it will support Project Treble, and therefore you can put a Trebla AOSP ROM on it relatively easily. Better than using MIUI. Admittedly, i've not used MIUI in a few years, so not sure how good it is these days.
Waiting for it to fall a bit....
Wasn't the top model of this supposed to be launched at £450-ish? Appreciate its pre-order and all that but didn't expect £600!! Max £500...

Depends on how you look at it. The price difference between one phone that's on sale and another that's only available to preorder is a little unfair, but still, its a big relative difference.

The way I see it is the Mi Mix 2s adopts Apple's 's' iterative naming convention yet it is being launched only six months or so after the Mi Mix 2. Why's that? In my opinion it is because Xiaomi realised that the Mi Mix 2 was not something that can actually compete with the other big phone brands' flagships in any way other than price. Sure the devices look good but they're let down so much that someone who is in the market for a stonking good device will over look it for one reason or another. They maybe brought the 's' release forward to actually make an impact before the next iteration of the iPhone or Galaxy.

So again, is it worth it? The Mi Mix 2 is a lot cheaper - but it doesn't really compete with the flagships on any front other than price - which is does really really well.

The Mi Mix 2s competes on price too and it is good, but it is actually more capable in those small margins where you need to be such as the camera and therefore is an option to someone who feels like they 'want the best'. Therefore it is less to them about how much more than the 2 the 2s is but how much less than the iPhone X. It's still less than half the price.

Why has this strategy been employed by Xiaomi? Because they are now in transition - up to now they've been a young tech company trying to establish a global brand and dominate their domestic market, which is ginormous. But they've done that with low-to-no margins on their products.

The Mi Mix 2s signals an iterative upgrade where the R&D costs are relatively low, the machining costs low, staff are in place. This is a big push towards being a profiting and dominating company. Sure they have always made money but watch over next six to twelve months as the Mi Mix 2s represents one of the most profitable devices for a mobile phone company since the iPhone was launched.

At this end of the market you need to exploit a bit more of the price elasticity that exists from early adopters and those who buy at the top end - because the market size is smaller. The reasoning you're coming to of "but is it worth £170 more?" may induce you to purchase the Mi Mix 2 to take advantage of those savings. You might not have thought so without the Mi Mix 2s. That's to say if they'd gone with the features of the new device in the original they'd not have created the market where you feel comfortable to purchase. There's a lot more to it, of course, but thats just a handful of reasons behind the business and economics of it which wouldn't occur to everyone.

The King Model is launched at 3,999 Chinese Yuan which is slightly over £450, but is currently selling for £593 on bangood. The 64GB model should be retailing sub £400?

The King model is the best though and it has band 20 which will help with resell value.
It says in specifications that the 64gb version has b20 but from what I have read it is only the 256gb version. Not sure what to believe.

I won't preorder. Will wait for price drop. I just used Google Translate. Confident that it translated to every model with B20 ..but i could be wrong
really deciding whether to bother with this or just get the nokia 7 plus when it comes out.
Shall I snap this up or is it worth waiting for the Mi 7?
