We are all here because we are tight right ? Lets face it , you can have deals on flights to NYC in peak times.
However hotel prices seem generally ridiculous if your 1. tight 2. want to stay in Manhattan 3. Do NOT want to go in January

I am certain it could be done cheaper if you wanted to make 3 stops and stay 20miles away from the center or leave your child at home . However i feel this is a great balance of perceived luxury and cost all things considered for small families .

Dates 21st - 26th March 2020

The hotel :
Holiday Inn Manhattan Financial District - seems to be decent and well located
1 × Double Room with Two Double Beds
Use booking.com through top cashback
£546 with the potential for 3% TCB

The flights :
Dreamliner planes with Virgin from heathrow to JFK , better or worse flight times are available but only one dreamliner a day . Free meals and Virgin will make sure one adult is sat next to the child.
Booked through Virgin direct via top cashback
£728.06 with the potential for £7.87 TCB

I thought that said family of 5 then and was excited. I could leave 2 kids at home, but I don’t think they (or social services) would be too happy.

Gonna stick my neck out here and say financial district is not a great location. The deal is good but it's a bit out of the main place to go. Flights are ok though.

Anywhere on the island itself was good enough for me mate
I've been to NY twice, the hop on bus makes travelling anywhere around Manhatten very easy.

Plus the subway is decent for getting around, not quite as good as the underground imo but still way better than a taxi. Also i found the homeless (and sadly theres a lot of them) were a great source of help and information.
This is very good value. Im looking for 2 nights semi decent New York hotel in mid October this year and so far I've found absolutely zilch

Seem to be the most popular time to book.

If anyone can point to a good twin hotel deal for a week (covering the 19th Oct) that would be much appreciated

Edit - I've never used AirBnB but I think that might be my best betas Hotel prices are insane. Happy to hear from others who have used AirBnB

Good location.
Trains /metro nearby.
Obviously got Wall street and the Bull are nearby.
Ten minute walk to ferry for statue of liberty and twin towers memorial plus the tallest building in New York.
Brooklyn bridge is about twenty minutes walk but you will stop in between so many times just to absorb the atmosphere of New York.
Got a couple of big stores similar to a Debenhams but more stylish and if sales are on a bargain.
If you are looking for a show on Broadway then there are two official places in New York that sell cheap same day tickets , one is nearby.
The only thing it lacks is a nightlife but I took my kids and felt better for it because there are so many police around you feel safe at night. From here you can easily get the train upto the Rock ( do in the evening) empire state ( do in the day) and central park.
So a great price and location.
just booked from manchester flying with virgin but booked on KLM as price is same and you can bring an extra 2kg

For the best value clothes shopping I would recommend the out of town outlet stores. There is one about 1.5hrs north think a bus goes there from Manhattan. To make it worthwhile you either need to plan to buy allot or stay longer.

I think it is the same as Bicester village and to be frank it was a totally wasted day, expensive to get there and expensive items. Not worth it.

Are you talking about Bicester village (agree with your view in the main) or the us outlets (really great prices; the store I mentioned was about half the price of central ny stores when I went 10 yrs ago)?

Top of the rock at night you have a great big black hole what is Central Park. Far better doing that in daytime and empire at night...IMO
20 min walk to Ghostbusters HQ.
crown tickets up Statue of Liberty well worth it (book in advance through correct reseller).
subway across to Brooklyn and walk back with great views.
use the subway-fast and easy!
TKTS booth for on the day discount broadway shows.
Ellens stardust diner for a musical fix.
subway uptown and walk back through Central Park.

etc etc

AirBnB is great, but Manhattan put a law in to stop it on the island for a whole home. You can only rent a room if the owner is there from memory. Think if you want whole place now you need to go out to Brooklyn.
