It's actually a weekend special - so only available on the 17th & 18th ;-)

i've never seen an alcoholic with this! White Lightening however....

do you think travelling 95.5 miles would be excessive for that 1% saving?

No, I'd quite happily pay £1.67 to avoid going in Netto.

Or I would if I liked this stuff. I once foolishly ordered some of this in a pub in Newcastle and the Geordies took the pi$$ out of me for the rest of the evening. They didn't rate it much.

Still better than drinking lager though.

Nothing else makes the wife hit me more than when she's been drinking the dog.......

So 'Newcy Broon isn't even gonna be brewed on Tyneside any more, nevermind in Newcastle??!!

I was thinking about the protected geographical status that Champagne and Melton Mobray pork pies have and found this on Wikipedia -

"The geographical limitations can be quite strict. "Newcastle Brown Ale" was restricted to being brewed in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in England. However, having obtained this protection for their product, the brewery decided in 2004 that it would move across the river Tyne to Gateshead. As Gateshead is technically a separate town—albeit only the width of a river apart—it does not fall within the required geographical restriction. The brewery then applied to the European Union authorities to have the geographical restriction revoked. If the restriction had not been revoked, the brewery would have been forced either to move back to Newcastle, or stop calling its beer "Newcastle" brown ale. Ultimately, the brewery's application to revoke the geographic restriction was approved"

Shocking - have we no pride?!?

Althhough I can't face more than the odd brown ale the news of the brewery closure is awful. The old Tyne brewery has been flattened for some time and now this

Now it will be brewed at the same place as that bloody John Smiths which is god damn awful stuff anyway. You here people saying they don't drink lager but sup that stuff as if it some top drawer real ale, it is worse than any foul lager I've tasted.

RIP Newcastle Brown.

jesus what a sad day for the north east! not right at all!

Whoever said ASDA have it for £1 is wrong. It is £1.67. Anyway I bought it at the price because I couldn't be bothered to drive all the way to Netto again.

Anyway this is one of the NICEST beers I have ever had. The guy in ASDA said it wasn't good and didn't recommend it. So glad I didn't take his advice. I am definitley putting this on my Xmas list.

But this will be available in every Netto store (except possibly Acton & Peckham), not just the individual Tesco store you saw this mispriced/discounted in.

National prices:
Tesco Price: £1.67 (was £1.47)
Asda Price: £1.67 (was £1.64)
Sainsbury Price: £1.84

I'm an alcoholic and wouldn't touch the stuff. HOT price for those who like it though.
