To be honest I would avoid this cesspit of depravity, the sickening levels of prostitution, drug taking and debauchery are unparalleled!

Once you get out of Newcastle you'll be fine though.

I just did this last weekend.... glad I read tripadvisor... some useful tips:

1. Take your own food, the restaurants on board are extortionate.. we put stuff into tubaware boxes and put them on the cold windowsill in the cabin.. was fine! Again take bottles of coke/water or you're paying £2+ for a can of coke on the ship.
2. The ship has its own mobile network "Maritime network" or similar.. don't let your phone auto-connect to it, its not part of the european coverage so your data/minutes don't count and will land you a large bill!!
3. Getting off the ship seems to be the hardest part... they have to scan your passports now and they only let so many people off in one go... took us 45 mins at Amsterdam, and almost an hour back at Newcastle to actually get off the ship once docked.

Apart from that the cabins are clean and nice!.. you get towels... the shower in the cabin is OK and warm!... When we crossed the weather was ok and I was worried about being sea sick, but it was all fine.. the boat obviously moves around a little, but was totally fine. At night we had a few antisocial idiots around 1-2am standing in the corridors obviously drunk and making a lot of noise, kind of expected this...

Amsterdam itself is an experience, 4-5 hours there was enough to get a feel for it... probably would have enjoyed it more back in my 20s... did some touristy type stuff, cost us £35 each for the boat and transfers... they add the transfer cost on at the end... for something to do for a weekend its excellent value for money.

Does it really take 16.5 hours to get to Amsterdam from North Shields? Crazy

we chose this a few months back and due to delays caused by weather and traffic getting out of the port we only had 2 hours in the dam. only managed the ice bar and a quick walk round but still not bad for the money!

No, but how else are they going to make their money in the bar if they rush...

Also take into account parking. £12 per day on site parking. But free parking in retail park available 100 yards away but some people on forums have expressed concern about leaving cars there.

Stonking deal is this, even if DFDS do the usual 2 for 1 deal which they run most years, this works out cheaper. Plus you can upgrade to better cabins etc, so a good deal all round.

Thanks cisss for the review and the tips

Sadly far too little time on solid ground but dirt cheap

Just a reminder if purchasing more than one use separate accounts if you can. I just bought 2 and realised the 15% off was only valid for ONE Getaway deal. Also, don't forget 12% TCB.

Seems a great deal for the price. I fancy atleast one or two nights stay in Amsterdam though as don't think I will be able to function due to the emm fresh clean air. anyone seen any deals like that about? They used to do short packages but can't seem to find them now.

Wish there was a deal like this but with 1-2 nights stay there rather than just the boat. have been on a ferry to belgium before and as has been mentioned its mega overpriced on the boat and the food is crap, its basically two nights crap sleep on a boat for a couple of hours in a mega city - would much rather spend more time in amsterdam.

To be honest I would avoid this cesspit of depravity, the sickening levels of prostitution, drug taking and debauchery are unparalleled!

Chanchi always post the best deal ! I am waiting for your next just eat deal chanchi 😊

Of course, why wouldn't they be?

2 nights on a boat for 5 hours in Amsterdam...It's cheap but...seriously?! Don't people value their time?

and they use the term “Cruise” very loosely. It’s a 21 year old Car Ferry. They want to fill the spaces at off peak times so people spend onboard. Don’t fancy risking a North Sea crossing at this time of year. Miserable.

you get hammered for food and drink prices too. if its anything like the brugges ferry it could take a really quick direct route but instead takes ages so that you're on board for a long time and buying food and drink, quite clever really.

Be warned, we did this last year & barely had 2 hours in Amsterdam...barely enough time to hit Ice Bar for a beer & cafe for a space 🚀 cake 🎂

Good value but it's more like a 30 hour **** up as opposed to an Amsterdam trip

Do you mean Newcastle or Amsterdam?

Good for some but I'd rather fly there in an hour and spend more time in the city

Great: bobbing about on the North Sea in a gale with a bunch of pis*ed up geordies - no thanks!

'Cruise' it is not!

Flights can be had for around £100 return pp though. To be honest, if you're going from Newcastle, you'd be best looking at going somewhere further afield that requires a change in Amsterdam and have a long 8 or so hour layover. You have the same amount of time in Amsterdam then.

They should really do a one night stay in Amsterdam as well as the 2 nights on the boat, an extra £30-40 and it'd be so much better and worth it.

We did this in October, was fine sailing out, coming back we had level 8 gail force winds, i felt awful.

Personally you dont get long enouigh in amsterdam.

Perhaps because your car was there?

My idea of hell - travelling 40 odd hours for 2 hours there - crazy!
