Great for indigestion, especially post hangovers

These are tablets to be started on a whim or after getting drunk. Better off buying Pepto Bismol or Gaviscon,

Not sure these aren't prescription restricted?

You can buy them off the shelf or from pharmacists now.

I have been prescribed these for 4 years due to a stomach disorder & noticed them appearing on the shelves 12-18 months ago.

Oh. & they do work for reflux & indigestion. One of these tablets per day should sort out most people out.

Not designed for "hangovers" though.

"esomeprazole" is the active ingredient & there are loads of generic brands of this about so you are best of scanning the shelves for "esomeprazole" on the packaging rather than looking for "Nexium Control"

Ranitidine is ok for occasional use, my doctor warned me off them and prescribed omeprazole (I suffer with gastric reflux, and now have Barretts syndrome, so need these on a daily basis). Ranitidine had several side effects - one is that it can cause you to grow breasts. Ranitidine acts as a temporary cure and its taken on the onset of an acid stomach, whereas omeprazole acts as a preventative by reducing the amount of stomach acid produced so should be taken on a regular basis.
if you need these tablets on a regular basis, see your doctor and get them prescribed. They cost the NHS way less than the cost of the prescription, you get prescribed up to 56 at a time and save yourself a fortune over buying these over the counter. You also put money into the NHS. For these reasons in voting this cold.

these are superior to ranitidine . The active ingredient is "esomeprazole. If you are spain? Cost is around £10 for 28 tabs at any Farmacia over the counter

voted hot because of non-availability in UK

You should check the side effects on these if on them long term, brittle bones is a big one and medical professionals aren't so keen on them any more.

A positive side effect though is they stop that horrible feeling you get in your gut on the big drops on rollercoasters!

Friend of mine developed a severe heart arrhythmia after about 3 years on this class of drug for gastric reflux - mineral (Magnesium) and vitamin deficient (B12 and Folate), as well as losing a decent amount of weight. Thankfully easily remedied by supplements. Quite easy to see how even longer use ,might develop more nutritional related problems such as bone density.

The big twist is they were never particularly effective anyway, they barely controlled the reflux - not surprising as the real problem turned out to be not too MUCH stomach acid, but too little! Resolved by using Hydrochloric acid capsules with meals.

I've been taking rinitidine for approximately 20 year's, originally when my doctor prescribed them they said I don't want you on them long term! But when I had a prescription review with a new doctor several years later I told doctor what the previous doctor had said, this new doctor said I don't know why you were told that I'm a qualified pharmacist and have no problems with you taking rinitidine until I say otherwise. Dr started looking up about side effects , reading from medical books etc. Showing , reading to me and reassuring me I have nothing to worry about taking ranitidine long term! No mention of developing moobs lol! I do have some but that's because I'm overweight and lazy lol! If I go one day without ranitidine I'm spouting acid like a volcano! Or I have a constant burning of acid in my stomach and osophagus! I also have to take gaviscon tablets especially after certain foods cereals, spicy food etc!

I would suggest then that both your current knowledge and your sources are out of date then. I dare say some of my own professional knowledge is rusty too, that happens with retirement.
Doing some proper research will quickly show that Ranitdine is associated with sexual problems (erectile problems and orgasm related) and swollen and enlarged breasts in men. I won't quote sources, it should be easy enough for a professional to find them from UK and foreign information
While there are many causes of gynaecomastia in men, sitting around is less likely to be the direct cause than conversion of DHT to Oestradiol E2 as a result of aromatase increase from the flab that develops as a result of the sitting around!

Coming off them is hard after long term use, your reflux comes back worse
