Downside is it will also be visible to any potential scrotes who fancy nicking it as well! Mine is really small and matt black - invisible from the outside so doesn't attract too much attention and I can leave it in the car.

im fed up of looking in my rear view mirror to find that some walter is filming me.

You all paying for your own equipment for the surveillance state. Users of these things are no better than the east german stasi.

Youtube is grinding to a halt with the amount of utterly pointless videos posted on the site filed with these things by saddos.

Oh, and yeah, Lefty is right. the car with one of these pointing out of the front is the one thats likely to get keyed along the side. Film That.

I've really enjoyed the few stories I have heard where dumb users of these things have filmed their own incriminating evidence for the police to seize.

Yeah if you cant read registrations in even the most ideal conditions it's a bit worrying.

You may be right but for £40 you can't buy nothing better and also if you choose black version it will not be that visible.
From my own experience people are starting to behave better when they know someone is looking at them (recording).
And quality is really good what was important for me.
But that is true - it is not a discrete dashcam.

Original Poster

Yeah klopikxda the video on that one looks miles better than the nextbase .How long will it last though? How long have you had yours?

Not everyone is recording people for their own sick satisfaction, almost all as precaution onl.
Few days ago there was a guy in front of me that decided to brake immediately with no reason - I was almost hit by a car behind me - so I took video to local PD and guy was charged with a fine for creating dangerous situation on the road.

I actually filmed some reversing into my car, and then tried saying i drove into the back of them. SO I FILMED THAT, so your comments of keying someone car is BS. These camera do help. As certain idiots try to be smart. P.s if you drive sensibly and carefully why you worried about a Dashcam.

isn't there a site where you can upload bad driving and the site passes it onto the police? I am sure i heard about it on Radio 5

And all those uploaders are never guilty of bad driving. Bad driving is subjective. Nation is full of creeps and snitches.

what country are you in? I don't recognize the offence of which you speak.

A little bit more than 12 months. No accidents yet but my recordings was used few times already and I got paid for 2
First time - I have recorded vandalism act on ASDA parking and I gave memory card to the owner of damaged car and he gave me £50 for this.
Second time - I got a bottle of "really" good whisky for recording of accident. Older guy was driving old Rover and was hit by a car on a motorway (and it wasn't his fault) so I gave him memory card for free and couple of days later he came back to me with tasty BALVENIE.

Looking for one of these, which is the best smallest/discrete one at a affordable price and one I can leave in overnight? We live in one of the worst hotspots for crash for cash (Bolton/horwich/westhoughton) and from what I've received in quotes for my wife's insurance we've seen a 30% increase this year.
So if I can try and get it down a little by having one of these fitted I will be doing.
Also she's been nearly had by one of these crash for cash accidents with my children in the car, then 2 minutes later down the road they actually got somebody.
Terrible what people will do for money!

If I was using this to save money on my insurance I would buy a good one and spend money on it, the last thing you want is to have an accident to then realise it wasn't recording and then for your insurance to be invalidated.

Take a look at techmoan.com/ lots of good reviews on various cameras.

And then the creeping snitch becomes the uninsured creeping snitch all because of his or her little camera.

Say I was to slam my brakes on in front of the camera for nothing, could it be proven that I didn't actually see a little cat run out in front of me?

Never mind crash for cash, stop with the tailgating and other assorted rubbish driving and you wont need one of these pieces of Chinese rubbish to try to prove that you were right.

There is also data protection and public space cctv laws to consider. Therefore the snitches and walters driving around with these things are probably breaking the law themselves.

There can be a lot of reasons to press the brake like for example : to slow down
Video evidence must have no doubts about situation that happened so if video is a bad quality it will not be accepted.

What happens if you were just nipping to the local shop, and crashed, having not activated it?

What if the memory card corrupted itself and the surveillance video was lost?

Would your policy be invalidated? Please pass us all the small print concerning this installation and discount.

You sir are exactly why people choose to use them.Sounds like you have a large dose of paranoia.Think I'll buy 3 more to have in my car just to upset the likes of you.

Nothing sad about it at all, the **** who braked got his just reward.

Funnily enough, have just taken one of these back today (again) and got my cash back. The first one had for 8 months and worked ok, not the greatest video but adequate. But then it wouldn't always record or respond to the buttons and would sometimes reset the date and time or the screen wouldn't come on. The final straw was when I had stopped, nipped into a shop and came back to find it beeping away to itself and no response to any button pressing, eventually it stopped after pressing the reset button several times. Took that one back last week and got a replacement, yesterday that did the beep thing and stopped on reset but this morning it just wouldn't stop beeping to itself, it eventually stopped on its own after a half an hour oO (fun driving) after it was unplugged!! Personally I would avoid but ymmv.

edit: also the battery doesn't last 20 mins, 10 at most

My parents narrowly avoided death on the motorway last week after being hit by a hit'n'run Polish lorry that got away. One of these cameras would have been a godsend in that situation. Do you agree, or does your willfully obtuse thinking exclude that too?

You parents should have been judging the situation more carefully. Perhaps they are past driving??

Anyways, with no pics, I do not believe it happened. A polish lorry that hit, run and out run them. Yeah. Sounds like the lies of a racist. They noticed the wagon was polski, but didn't get a company, reg or phone number. Yea right.

Just out of curiosity, are you genuine, or a young person who enjoys trolling for attention? This is a genuine question.

To answer your questions, the incident was witnessed, that's how they know it was a Polish lorry. I'm not attaching any judgments to a race of people, but you are by implying it. Its a problem though that foreign drivers' identity are protected because of EU legislation.

Your offensive insensitivity regarding my parents wasn't taken personally, because you clearly have issues, but no, they weren't in any way at fault, and couldn't have avoided what happened. They couldn't catch the guy up because their car spun out, hit a second lorry, smashed into the crash barrier and was a write-off. Its strange that you assumed they were in a position to, causing you to disbelieve it. I would hate to be locked inside your negative mind.
