The YI smart dash cam can be picked up around this price when on offer. I've got it and it's served me well for the last 4/5 years, getting quite a lot of use. Good app and WiFi, reliable, picture quality is fairly good, a lot better than this anyway, but after upgrading I don't think I'd buy another one. Although I'm still using the YI in the work van.

People are paying for the Nextbase name, I wouldn't even trust them. Just look at the issues with the 612gw.

Best value for money I would say is the 70mai pro. Can be picked up for around £40 from the likes of Gearbest and AliExpress. Think it's £55 on Amazon. Top quality picture, really discreet and even suites cars with light/rain sensors on the windscreen. Good app with WiFi. Excellent parking monitor. Had mine a while now and really pleased. If it comes on offer again for around £35 I'm going to buy one for the rear too.

Spend a bit more to get a decent dashcam you need at least 1080p for footage, 720 is rubbish...

I bought this about 8 months ago for slightly less than this price and to say I've been disappointed is an understatement. Firstly the video quality is not great and image stabilisation seems very poor. Don't even bother with it at night or in the dark, the only thing it picks up is headlights as it doesn't have a night mode. But the worst part is the G sensor. Even set on low it is too responsive so I've had turn it off completely and resort to pressing a button to save a particular file.
I was filling a 32gb card in about 3 days of commuting about 3.5hours a day with the G sensor on. And lastly the card size limitation is ridiculous, 32gb just isn't enough space, and before anyone says just use a larger card, then you physically can't as the camera won't accept it.
I opted for nextbase as it seemed like a trusted known brand but would advise looking for something else. I'm still looking as I'm no expert so any other opinions or advice is appreciated.
Not voting on the deal as its a good price but the product isn't great.
Basic rubbish. Old model. Avoid

I think that article been out quite a while now, could do with being updated. I completely agree this camera is money wasted.

The YI Smart Dash Cam in that article is quite good and can be picked up for similar money when on offer.

link to Yi smart dash cam and the one you mention in Gearbest please , thx I don't have a clue when it comes to anything tech, so your help would be really appreciated
This is fine for what its designed to do - which is support your account of an incident to your insurance company. Ignore the inevitable comments regarding the fact you can't make out the whites of the other drivers eyes etc etc. I got one for my parents car and it has worked flawlessly

You should try the 70mai pro. See my comment below.

I don't understand why you'd want it to retain loads of footage anyway? The idea of a dash cam is to have footage should/when an incident occurs. You will know when an incident occurs, it's not like home CCTV where you may only find out a week or month later that something may has happened.

If you're somebody that regularly likes to download footage of people cutting you up or pulling out at roundabouts a camera with WiFi would be the best bet. Can download the clip straight to your phone in a matter of minutes.

I've been itching to buy a dashcam for months but it seems a minefield to me.

So your insights are appreciated . I'll have look into the 70mai pro you've mentioned.

This is awful, owned it for 12 months, I would not recommend it to my worst enemy !!

I can't find the Yi one on Amazon anymore. It's around £30.86 @ AliExpress with shipping from China or Spain. Apologies for the ES link for some reason AliExpress thinks I'm in Spain. I would not recommend AliExpress based on personal experience.

The 70mai Pro is a much better camera for an extra £10. £40.83 @ Gearbest
You don't need the GPS module either. It adds few features in the UK and in general GPS could be used against you. Say you accidentally done 35mph in 30mph zone, the other party could try to use that as an excuse.
