I’d like to find a new dashcam (it will be my third and I was late to the market) that might simply just do the job it’s designed for.........this one, like too many on offer has a disproportionate amount of negative reviews which, true or false, renders it suspect in my book.

Not voted either way.

Gave up on Nextbase with random resets for no good reason despite doing everything they said, buying their own SD card, hardwired/cig lighter powered. They are a total joke, swapped to a cheaper Yi camera for half the price and none of the stress and added a CPL filter.

What others have you had and why were you unhappy with them?
not voted either way but most of us won't need one at the moment. I was involved in an accident recently where a motorcyclist hit the side of my car whilst I was stationary the police weren't interested even though my dashcam had captured the registration even though he failed to stop after an accident
I have one of these.
+ It's easy to use
+ Easy to access footage using their app, which shows interesting/geeky info with your recording.

- Device is a little bigger than I would like
- picture quality isn't as good as I was expecting (as the vibration from the car makes reading roadsigns etc. on the playback not readable). Just to add I do have quite hard suspension so may not be as bad in a normal car.
I have this dashcam along with the rear module - it's fantastic!

Had a bit of an issue recently where it got stuck in a continuous bootloop, but this has now been resolved with a firmware update and hasn't missed a best since.
No issues with mine. Works great.

£111 in Halfords if you want to deal with a brand who will swap it easily if you have any problems.

Oh Racky, I imagine you felt super smug writing that!

This isn’t the moan about the Police thread. It’s a thread about the Nextbase 522GW!

If you want to complain about the Police, call 101 and log a complaint or go onto Facebook and moan like everyone else.

People want to know about this dash cam so they can decide if it’s a good deal, not listen to your life story.

Oh Bob, I think you feel super smug while writing this, not me.

I was just letting people know that it's kind of a waste of money to pay 100pounds on a dashcam, because police won't give 2 cents on the footage, maybe just in case of a big crash they will consider it. Also, backing up what the person before me wrote.

My life story won't fit in 5 rows of text, maybe yours will.

I think all this isolation is affecting you. You may want to go out for a walk and not start silly arguments on forums. Have a great one

Cool response bro!
Can owners of this dashcam confirm that the Alexa side of things work ok? Especially for speaking music to play through your car stereo Tia.
I have this one with rear view, as this is the only one that does it of a known brand. Day time quality is very good, night is not too dark, mine is hardwired took me 15 mins to hide all cables and hardwired. Yes from time to time it ask to format the card. I did not like the part that you had to use their own SD card but over all it’s a good dashcam with brilliant mobile app. Don’t go to the police with the footage as it’s pointless rather contact your insurance with the number plate of the worst who hit your car and they will do the job for you

Yes Alexa works fine but you must have the app on your phone too to synchronise it and connected with Bluetooth

Great! I want one but have been on the fence!
I wanna hard wire into my car but the fuse box is to hard to get to. Does it keep recording whilst parked like some others do.
New replacement 622 model about to be launched hence price drop on 522 model

Hi

How difficult is to wire this yourself or should you get a pro to do it?

I have one hard wired in my golf, i tucked the wire in across to the side and the n didn’t want to go near the airbag so a garage charged me £20 to come down the side of car and into the fuse box

Thanks , I have a B Class the fuse box is in the foot well on drivers side so may be a bit tricky. 20 is reasonable .

Problem with this unit is that it looks expensive. I've been using various viofo products for like 4 years now and they look like toys but footage is in fact amazing. There are other things that make viofos top of class.

This. Don't care that police don't persecute. I want the plate numbers so my insurer will claim it of theirs...
Still seems a tad expensive given there are a lot of negative reviews on Amazon.

It’s not expensive. And I wouldn’t worry that much about reviews, unless they’re specify one massive issue.

Surely it's useful for insurance claims? As evidence that they are at fault.

Also if you have the number plate for the motorcyclist you can just prosecute them privately? As in seek damages.

And make an official complaint that a hit and run isn't being followed up - with your evidence. That's pretty major I'd say.

So good deal and worth getting this then?
I have this as well as the rear camera. I am undecided on it in all honesty.

I had a Transcend Drive Pro 200 front and rear for years and years. They were/are bullet proof. They are still going strong in the wife's car.

This, on paper, should be amazing. And while it is pretty good it does have issues, at least mine has.

First problem I had was right out the box it wouldn't connect to satellites for the GPS, which is located in the base. No problem, nextbase sent me a new one out next day delivery. Great, this worked a treat and no more GPS issues.

When I first got it, I got a top spec micro SD card(spec required as per nextbase) that was about £45. It worked for a while but constantly crashed the camera.

Nextbase then sent me out their own branded micro SD card, only a 32GB one but it did work better but even that was not 100% of the time. I bought a bigger micro SD card, a Nextbase one. This has been working but again, it's not perfect. You have to format the card regularly, something nextbase will tell you if you speak to them. Probably weekly if not more often, which isn't ideal.

Now, all these problems might only be be caused by having the two camera setup. If you only have the front then maybe you will be fine. Who knows, might just be me. So much data getting written with the two high quality feeds, it doesn't seem to cope very well with this.

Overall, when it works it's great. I still use them and am just about happy with how it is now. Occasionally it won't start recording when I set off but most of the time it does, if this happens you just tap the red button. I like the GPS speed as a screen saver and also use it as extra protection when reversing or if car is full with stuff and you can't see out the rear view mirror it will double as one.

I don't use the alexa thing although I think it works OK from what I remember when I first set it up.

It looks very good in place. All wires hidden. Which is very easy to do for those wondering. If you need any tips regarding this send me a pm and I'll try and assist.

Yep had one from release and works fine with amazon music. I was told by nextbase it would eventually work with Spotify but no update to allow this so far.
Overpriced rubbish.
I have had 2 nextbase dash cams and gave up on them I have had this model and 612 and both failed after 12 months old now have invested heavily on the blackvue 900 model front and rear camera with pro magic battery backup from Halfords and I can say it is the best money can buy don’t bother with anything else trust me
