Record your journeys with the Nextbase 522GW Quad HD Dash Cam with Amazon Alexa & NBDVRS2RWC Quad HD Rear View Dash Cam Bundle.

Nextbase 522GW Quad HD Dash Cam with Amazon Alexa

You'll be able to make out every number plate in Quad HD. And there's no need to squint. A polarising filter reduces glare on the windscreen, so your footage will be clear whatever the weather.

To help you stay safe on the road, Alexa is built-in. Change songs, make phone calls, get directions, and much more. You can ask the 522GW to start or stop recordings without taking your hands off the steering wheel.

If you ever get into an accident, the 522GW has your back. By sending out an emergency SOS alert, the dash cam notifies the emergency services to your exact location. It can even share medical information, such as your blood type, so you can quickly get the help you need.

Simple to install, the included Click&Go Pro mount securely locks your dash cam in place.

It's easy to get access to your files. Connect your dash cam using Bluetooth to transfer footage directly to your phone. Or watch instant playback on the 3” HD touchscreen.

Nextbase NBDVRS2RWC Quad HD Rear View Dash Cam

Rear-ended by a tailgater? If you ever get into an accident you'll have vital evidence for an insurance claim. The wide-angle lens captures all the important stuff like number plates. And when paired with the 422GW or 522GW it'll also record is crisp Quad HD.

This dash cam is small and discreet so doesn't have a screen. But you can see what it's recording on your front dash cam (pretty handy when reversing into a tight spot). It saves all your footage straight to the main dash cam, so everything is in one place.

The info on their site is wrong (not blaming hukdbuddy).

I bought these cameras on the Halfords deal but they aren't both Quad HD. In fact if you want the front in Quad HD the rear has to be just 720p (or have them both in 1080p - my choice).

"When you are using a rear-view camera module the resolution of your front camera will automatically adjust to manage the two high resolution video files. The options for these settings are 422/522GW Front 1080p Rear 1080p OR Front 1440p Rear 720p 322GW Front 1080p Rear 720p"

nextbase.com/en-gb/modules/rear-window-camera/

Quick summary of my few days with them...

Good
- The video quality (1080p) is better than my Mobius Action Cam it replaced.
- Power lead plugs into mount so the camera can be removed easily due to being held by magnets (however, see below).

Bad
- It has logos on the mount, camera & included stickers. And if the thief wonders if your particular model is worth having the model number is clearly visible on the side of the lenses. Not discreet in the slightest! - fixed with black tape.
- I can't view files on my Pixel 2 XL as it just keeps saying it is trying to create a WiFi connection
- It has turned itself off numerous times. I am using my own USB lead & charger but will swap to the included charger, if it still keeps going off it will be going back!
- The rear camera plugs into the front camera, not the the mount, so negates the benefit of the power going into the mount.
- U3 memory card required

Edit: with the included charger (rather than a 2.4A Aukey one) I have been able to view footage & it created the WiFi link with no issues. Will update if it fixes the turning off issue.

Not tested Alexa or the SOS function.

Just got this on the last deal the other day for £120 odd, have to say, after the faffing about setting up the app/WiFi, I am very happy with it.

All cables routed and hidden. Great quality video. I like the details the app gives re: speed etc alongside the footage. Good upgrade for me over my old Transcend Drive Pro 200.
Just seen the reviews for this definitely will be getting one
If I would have a car I would definitely buy this one... Or 3 times cheaper 70mai Pro from AliExpress with shipping from Europe

I had the same issue as you with the WiFi. Just couldn't get it to work. Followed instructions on here on the pervious deal and it has worked every since. Basically deleted app. Reset cam. Re done it all and it worked/check the other thread for actual instructions). It connects automatically via Bluetooth when I get in car and if I want to connect via WiFi to view/download files it connects every time in maybe 5 seconds after clicking.

Great, thanks. Seems to be working with the included charger rather than a 2.4A Aukey one, I'll see how I get on

Yeah, I tried to use my old dash cam power cable that was already well hidden but unfortunately it was just too thick to fit into the mount so has to remove and replace with the nextbase one.

Mine was too but I (carefully) trimmed part of the rubber from the end of the mini USB cable as I wanted to use the cable that was routed around the car. I'm guessing the power consumption may be too high for either that cable or charger, so it charges when it's off which is why it comes on for a bit & then turns off - I'll test it tomorrow.
I bought this in the halfrauds Father’s Day deal at this price. Alexa works great but you have to have the app open before the dashcam starts and it connects automatically. Great for playing prime music.
Certainly worth getting a camera for behind you these days.

Some guy bashed me up the rear and then drove off without even leaving his phone number or details a year of two ago. With this at least you should get a recording of things too.

Do you find there is a big difference in the quality over the transcend as I have it and wondering if worth the upgrade. Thanks
I know this may be off topic but I wonder when they're going to come out with a 360° dashcam. I know it's going to come and that is going to be the ultimate protection
I do alot of night driving and want to know will this be good at night as it seemed to have good reviews . Thanks

it is £1 cheaper to buy it from halfords if you want them to fit it they charge £208, am pretty sure if you buy from someone else they wont fit it , you could price it from a mobile car electrician

To be honest, in terms of actual video quality, no not really. It'll be pretty much the same, unless you don't use the rear in which case you can increase the quality past 1080p which is the Transcend's maximum.

Feature wise then yes, this has many more. The fact I now have a rear camera that is connected to the front. As apposed to not having a rear or having to run two separate cameras. Parking mode. Can also use the rear camera as a reversing camera, however not great unless you angle it more to the ground. GPS which can be turned off. Alexa, which I've not used yet. Once the app is working(was a bit fiddly to start with getting the WiFi working) it is good for viewing footage. I'm sure there is many more but I can't remember.

I just fancied a change more than anything. Had the Drive Pro a long time. If you do get it you will need to get a good spec U3 micro SD else it'll not work with both cams.

It's not difficult, quite straight forward, just a bit fiddly and the rear can be a bit time consuming depending on vehicle.

I have done quite a few now, was thinking about doing it as a side earner. I quite enjoy doing it as well. Not got a clue what companies charge for it though.

I wouldn't let Halfords touch my car, even if they only charged a quid!

Thank you very much really appreciate your time. In that case I might just stick with the transcend if you could help with one other thing. I used the memory card that came with the transcend and that lasted a good while, I put in a Samsung Pro Endurance U1 and it's all blurry and advice on memory card. Thanks

The Transcend is definitely a great dash cam. I've not had any issues with mine at all, it is now going to be a rear cam in the wife's car to match the same in the front.

Not so sure about your memory card problems, I know the transcend has a maximum limit, or a supposed limit. Think it is meant to 32GB but not sure. Other than that I can't be of much use as to why it is blurry, I've never had any issues like that and have used a few different cards. Hope you get it sorted.

Some guy went into the back of me, called me a “stupid c***” and nearly ran me over driving off. I fitted a rear dash cam that weekend. People are the worst.
Does noone produce a unit of this level but with a wireless connection to the rear camera via Bluetooth or WiFi ? It would make life so much easier to not need to run cables through.
Really hate how they stand out so much, and I also seem to judge people who have them... that said they do make sense and I’ve just ordered one, as I drive 30-40k a year it’s a no brainer. I just wish manufacturers would do a nice integrated system!

Think I’m about to learn how much I swear behind the wheel
I bought this the day it was released... when setting up there was no ios app on the store. I called nextbase to be told they were still awaiting approval from Apple even though product was released advertising the app. Whilst on the phone I asked if Alexa supported Spotify and was told that it did. When I installed it, this isn't the case and a cal back to nextbase revealed that I was told wrong and that they were also awaiting approval from Amazon to get Spotify working. Very frustrating but it is a good unit.

Why tf would you need Alexa on something like this?
ordered both from halfords ebay for £134.40 using code pure20

Why tf would you need Alexa on something like this?

" • Using your Dash Cam, Ask Alexa to play music, hear the news, check the weather, control smart home devices, and more.

• Get directions, find parking and more. All while you keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

• Nextbase Dash Cam Skill coming soon – Talk directly to your Dash Cam with Alexa built-in to use commands like ‘start recording’, ‘stop recording’, ‘protect a recording’ and ‘send to my phone’."

Saw a review that said the directions/parking aspect was surprisingly useful.

Tell it to turn your heating on while you're still heading home?

I've cleaned the lense, actually I had Toshiba hc u1 in before this one and that worked well so maybe it might be a dodgy MC

It's just a shame the rear camera is not discounted (halved) first when combined with the dash cam, like it does on the main Halfords site.
garlik_bread24/06/2019 10:25

A lot of cars have 12v ports in the boot.
Can alexa notify you of speed cameras coming up
Is this much better than the 512GW model. I bought it for 120 recently. Never used it yet. Is it worth returning it and buying this one??
Same price everywhere! Does this have the Sony lens?
Edited by: "dinmk2" 24th Jun
Can anyone recommend an a lot cheaper alternative please?

I heard that your best getting one without GPS coz if you get in an accident that wasn't your fault but are driving over the speed limit (even just 1 mph over) it can go against you.
