Good spot OP. Really pleased with the Nextbase 312 I got in a Halfords sale 18 months ago and already saved me when a lorry nearly ran me off the road and the driver tried to blame me.

Been looking for another for the rear window.

Could you tell me how is its night vision?
Is it possible to read numberplate at all?
One review says the parking mode/sensor on nextbase only works if the camera is hard wired into the car using the optional kit, is this true? it is a shame the camera can't just use its built in battery to record a few minutes clip in such an event. Anyone got one and confirm if this is true and parking mode will only work if hard wired into the car? If so I may just stick with my cheap £8 eBay version.

According to the maplin description the 212 relies on street lighting why the cheaper 112 has night vision for clear image..

From the 212 description• Night time events can be recorded if there is sufficient artificial light present from the car and external street lighting.

From the 112 description • Infra-red night vision to record night time journeys

Does anyone know if Halfords will price compare?, would rather buy there if maplin is going under.
is it better to hard wire these in or have they a decent battery life ??

Just use the supplied 12v cigar socket adapter. This will give you an idea of what is In the box.

you need to power it up via USB anyway, hardwire or via lighter socket.

Have had a 212 for a couple of years. Night recording is amazingly clear and good quality. Number plates can be easily read. Have had no issues with it even on motorways (headlights are sufficient).

Had an accident when someone crashed into me from the side but night recording quality and decent viewing angles saved me explaining the story to the insurers!

If you hard wire the nextbase cam you use an ignition live IE powered only when ignition is on, park mode uses the onboard battery to capture any knocks to the car, but this does take a few seconds to start to record, so the initial impact is not recorded!

If you wired it to a direct live feed you would have constant 24 hour record mode and the knacker the sd card prematurely.

Also check what SD card you use! The cards Nextbase recommend are NOT recommended by Sandisk so no warranty if used in a dashcam.

Tried to hardwire mine in, but every fuse in fusebox was either permanent on or off. Only "when ignition on" fuse i found was in fuse box under bonnet, that was a pain to get to. Ended up just having to re-route the wire to the centre console 12v. Not the end of the world, and luckily have another to use (for phone charger etc).

Parking mode can be very sensitive-just closing the door starts recording, however, sensitivity can be changed in settings.

Well they are supposed to as head office has confirmed. I would argue the point as that’s an individual trying to dictate

Hi, rang them back and tney still said "no as maplin have gone out of business", so I said they are still trading so not out of business yet, so they are going to ring head office and get back to me back.

EDIT#
Got a call back and they claim head office have still said no as maplin have gone into admnistration.

Went through every one of them-drove me mad. Ended up contacting Volvo (V40), who said they couldnt help as to which fuse to use, but just recommended a different camera-or just hard wire to centre console-big help!!

I have a 312, no issues with quality day or night. Not sure about night vision but your headlights should provide enough light for the recording. There are plenty of YouTube video reviews to check the quality

Nextbase recommended a sandisk class 10 card to me

Needs to be their Extreme brand. Th e standard sd cards are not covered under warranty by SanDisk on dash cams, as I found out when making a warranty claim on a class 10 card that failed in the camera. SanDisk did however replace if for free with the more expensive Extreme card, so that was good. Apparently the standard cards are not designed for the continuous write and rewrite of dash cams. My 312gw is hardwired in though into an always on fuse, so effectively is a permanent cctv camera. Battery on the camera is less than a minute now though. Need to unplug the cam of going on holiday or not driving for a week as it will drain the cat battery eventually. The hardwire kit claims to have an auto disconnect function then the car battery goes low, but didn't work on mine!

If you hardwired it to a permanent live does that now mean you have to manually stop the recording?. As my understanding was that it auto stopped once you switched off the ignition, basicly My 12v socket is permanently live and I want to use park mode.

How long dies park mode record for in the event of a knock. Also is there not the worry of someone braking into your car to steel the dash cam...

You can set how long the park mode records for-however, if its permanently live, then it wont know that you're parked (ignition off). But, i think there is a setting that will recognise when you're moving, and therefore only record when you do. Suggest you check each models spec.

Hi, Went for the 112, at £40, phoned Halfords customer services who phoned my local store and told them to price match.

, easy to set up, and straight forward to understand each menu item, I set the g sensor to medium then I pulled the power so that it auto shut down, then slammed the car door to simulate a car park knock, it turned itself on and recorded a locked clip for 30 seconds and then shut itself back down, I am happy with how it all works, only annoying thing is that I had 3 memory cards, Samsung class 10 16gb refused to work despite formattng in the dash cam, Fuji 8gb class 10 worked at first until I turned the device off and on then just kept saying I need to format, the only card that stayed working is an unbranded 2gb class 4 card that I have had for about 5 years, guess my next purchase is a top quality 32gb micro sd.

They price-matched this morning on the web. I popped into the Speke branch and the guy said, "no problem, just order it online now an I'll process it now."
i ordered the 512GW, the fitting package with pouch and SD card, and another fitting for my second car. They even fitted one this afternoon. Fitting is £30 , but includes the £20 hardware kit
