Just picked one of these up from euro car parts store on eBay with the 15% off code

Came down in price I been reading and researching a lot and it seems a good cam and price

I know there are some dash cam experts on here and I read on here that the 422gw is a good one

Its a lot of money for a dash cam but I believe it’s worth it

Looks pretty good
Thank you for posting, we have added your thread to the Highlights page
Just got one of these (at no cost ) with a new car and very pleased. Have no prior experience of dash cams to compare but the quality is very good. App is simple to use and can quickly download footage without removing SD card and putting in laptop etc. Have it hard wired in so starts and stops automatically. Has parking feature to record if any motion detected when car is parked. Records sound by default which is a bit creepy so turned that off...
I had another model I think 312gw that broke just after one year warranty period. It doesn’t recognise the address card all of a sudden. Tried other cards etc. No luck. Paid £100 plus . What a waste
How easy is it, or more realistically, how much does it cost, to get this installed so it looks neat and tidy?

Halfords will do it for ~£25 and took it up to the battery.

These are the series 2 models and apparently a lot better now.

I read mixed reviews of the series one and your right 312 wasn’t very good

That’s a good price if they can hide all the wires but you will need the nextbase hardwire kit which is £13 on eBay quick search and you can find it.
Comes with fuses and extra long cable etc
Hardwire kit comes included with a Halfords fit. Also it piggybacks a fuse in the internal fusebox so not all the way up to the battery per se.

Most Halfords won't fit the dashcam if you don't buy it from them, company policy and all that. But some will bend the rules for you, just depends on the staff

Oh I didn’t know that then £25 is good value from Halfords.

It's £30 and needs to be pre booked with store

You can do it yourself pretty simply too - I'm not a 'car guy', but the steps are pretty easy to follow (did my third DIY install in a family member's car last week!), and in most cars the cable can be tucked just behind bits of the interior trim (try looking for a youtube video if you have a common model of car). The genuine kits are only about £13/14 from Amazon, less if you want to buy something generic.

That being said, the cost mentioned above doesn't seem extortionate for the likes of Halfords if you don't want the hassle!
Ordered cheers OP, does anyone have recommendations for SD cards ?

I bought the 32gb sandisk one that was on offer on HUKD for £5.99. hoping it will be sufficient.

When I had mine fitted at halfords if you bought their wiring kit for £20 they’d fit it for an extra tenner
Cool

Depends, if you can do it yourself then the cost of the hardwire kit + fuse taps for your car. It is pretty simple, depending on your car.

Generally involves routing a wire through the top of your windshield (tucked under), down/across the A-pillar (ensuring it doesn't interfere with airbags) or down the weather stripping, and then the black wire attached to the car's body/ground (loosen a chassis bolt and then insert wire and tighten up) and then a fuse tap to your fuse box in a circuit that is permanent live.

It's less complicated than it sounds, if like me you do a lot of research and watch a bunch of YouTube videos before doing it (try to watch general ones as well as ones specific to your car model). Also, the dashcamtalk forums are really helpful.

If this still sounds complicated, consider buying from Halfords who will fit it for about £30, or ask any local car audio installers and see if they can do it for a decent price.

Seriously can’t see why anyone would pay to have this fitted. I have this exact dash cam, never had one before and installed it in less than 10 mins. It was super easy to hide all wires and has been fine for the 2+ months I have had it.

I purchased one of those endurance SD cards that are designed for CCTV and dash cams. Read a lot of people have less failures with these. 32GB for £15. Pricier but I guess safer.

Hardwired or using the cigarette lighter?
I think when we talk about installing we mean hard wired rather than plugged into a cigarette lighter...that where the bit of extra skill and cost comes from.
stuellis30/10/2019 16:01

Cigarette lighter.

I’m sure that looks really neat/discrete compared to hard wired
Thanks for that wise statement toonarmani! Unfortuanately not everyone is as gifted as you clearly but it's about choice. Lighter socket works and nearly all the wire can still be hidden just like your perfect fit. Give others a break and encourage not belittle!

Some cars have a spare socket in the footwell under the dash...worth a look

Do you need to buy the camera from them to get this fitted by them?
