Another vote for the HUDL 2 here - Its a cracking spec for the cash and a worthy option.

Whilst the Original HUDL has loads of crapware, the new HUDL 2 just uses a Tesco launcher App.

    1. Turn on HUDL 2
    2. Create google account as part of initial setup.
    3. Go into the Play Store and search "Google Launcher"
    4. Install
    5. marvel at your "Tesco-less" HUDL 2

Hardly XDA / Root levels of complication.

Nexus 7 is a pretty damn good tablet, I got my brother one for xmas a couple of years ago. I'd happily pay £99 for one.

If your in the market for an android tab then I don't think there's any better at £99 as far as I know. Always preferred iPads but I had one of these and it was really good. Was just lacking some apps that I needed and didn't like the size of the bezels. They can also get quite hot while doing a bit of Tapped Out. Other than that, quality piece of kit.

same I always thought ipads were the only tablets to have (but its true they give the best experience)
but for this price its a no-brainer £99 as opposed to triple the amount for an ipad
    love ipads, hate iphones

In all honesty, I think there should be a ban on 'in store' deals. Who on … In all honesty, I think there should be a ban on 'in store' deals. Who on their right mind thinks it is worth posting on the WORLD-WIDE web about a deal that is only going on in one particular store.

LOL. Oh wow I don't know where to start! X)

My Sainsbury's wouldn't sell me the display one but I did get a new one in another store.

But just to note how incredibly impressed I've been, as it seems others have, with the way I was dealt with when I phoned up. First store was very helpful and then the second went above and beyond to save one for me, tell me who would be there when I went to pick it up, it was really good.

    Nice one Sainsburys.

    199 in Wakefield

Everybody to Wakefield then ... they can't have sold all 199 yet !
  12. MrRee's avatar
Display Units are sold to the public .... Staff saying that they can't sell it want it for themselves, they will reduce to £80 and then take their 20% Staff Discount - giving them a rather nice Tablet for £64.

All those saying that their stores are saying £199 must be wrong, the shelf badge on the one I bought said something like, "Was £179, then £149, Now £99" no mention of £199 at all.

I think what is happening is that they are looking at the 32Gb version at £199 ...... they need to look down the list to the 16Gb ..... it is a National Reduction of that it's clear, it's just a communication problem.

I'm well impressed with the wifes Xmas present, all set up now and put away for Xmas day ... she's going to be ever so grateful

This will be national deal. I got mine for 149.99 having seen an "instore" deal on here for Sainsburys. However, it only tends to be Sainsburys Superstores who sell them

Any reason why? As I see it, the nexus 7 is the best choice; regular updates from google, no crapware bundled, faster processor, lighter and thinner, but I haven't used either so still not decided myself.

and how do I do that.

Have you tried using a different launcher yet to improve things?

Nova Launcher, which is available in the Play Store is very highly regarded.

My Nexus 7 was getting a bit laggy which I have had since launch. So I did a bit of research and it turned out I needed to wipe the cache by following some simple instructions link.

This will also work on the 2012 model

Made a huge difference to the speed...

II'm also thinking of upgrading my ipad 3 but unsure on the air 2 (Can get around 415 FOR 64GB but unsure if import or not. From Amazon) or if I should wait it out again for next one. Oh dilemmas dilemmas!

If she really is unresponsive - get a new one!

Great deal! After a wasted trip to Braehead in Glasgow (still full price!), I phoned Sainsbury Customer Care Line & they were able to tell me which stores in my area had stock at the reduced price - as a result I managed to pick one up for £99. A great post & has helped a huge amount of people so well done!
  35. deleted130282's avatar
I'd like to add my voice to those who've been very impressed with the Sainsbury's staff who've served them. A friendly lady in Oxford Heyford Hill last night checked and explained that sadly they didn't have one for sale but went to the trouble of looking for local alternatives. Some stores showed one (probably a display model they couldn't sell), but Didcot had more than one.

I went to Didcot this evening and their bright and cheerful staff worked as a team, eventually unearthing one for me from a stock room which scanned at £99. If you do go down there and see if they have another please be patient with them. They don't have a large electricals section and if they can find you one they will most likely have had to rummage quite hard for it.

Well, that's odd .... I visited my local Sainsburys, they didn't have stock but looked on their system - there were 3 in Newbury, 3 in Reading and 3 in Basingstoke .... the system showed £199 as the price.

Ignoring that, and in pusuit of a bargain, I went the 12 miles to the Basingstoke store and bought one for £99 ... as per the OP.

Now, I doubt that 3 is a large stock level (considering 1 is the display model!) .... so, that stock level excuse is wrong.

The Reduced Tickets are not Store specific either ... they are the proper national reduction tickets.

Oddly, they show the price reductions as £179/£149/£99 .... indicating that the start price was £179 - which bears out the price elsewhere. I wonder if they are quoting on the 32Gb version as £199?

Either way, plenty have bought - all over the country - for £99 ... so a National deal it is!
