this is going under the radar as everyone is in a lather about the fire tv box sale @ £59, but this is all ends up a better deal if you are not worried about the Amazon video, not only does it officially support Kodi, it is faster at using Kodi. I would urge all people considering a fire tv to choose this instead...

you will find comments about it not having a Ethernet, but if you have a good router (AC) this has a AC card onboard (unlike the fire tv which is only a N) and this box connects to my AC router at 717MPS that is easily fast enough to stream 4K, so you wont need a Ethernet. obviously if you don't have a AC router or are using BT or Sky woeful attempts at a router, then stay with wired connection

But this is 3 times more expensive! If you want this, then it's a great price - however, I don't think it better value than the Fire TV Stick...

Fire TV mate, not fire tv stick, the fire tv is also on sale @ £59 and gone hot on main page, trust me this makes the fire stick look silly

na my bad I don't think it was clear, people go crazy for those sticks

The only thing stopping me buying this is i have a fire tv with kodi installed plus a prime membership so all my amazon instant video is there on the fire tv whilst im not even sure amazon have a instant video app for most android devices never mind a niche product like this.Watched a few reviews and its looks good but just dont think its worth swapping my existing fire tv for this unless you can advise me better otherwise

for you no, if you a primary account holder on Prime, then no you should stay as you get that video, if you were buying a box just for Kodi then that is when this comes in

Ok cool thanks for the quick reply and advice.....looks a smart box though from the youtube videos ive watched.

Heat added anyway

voice search works on youtube!! that was enough for me lol, that and the AC wireless, I get fed up with companies putting the cheapest wifi they can in their stuff, AC is well matured now and no excuse to stay on N, even though the fire box offers a Ethernet

it has it annoyances, like the apps are listed by when you installed them not most used

Firmware is locked on fire tv so no custom roms...

Plus firetv doesn't have chromecast..

If these 2 things are important to you get the nexus

Will there be any issues with the virgin hub 2? Decided to go for one and see how it goes

I have this with android M.

Support 24hz output, I have a usb ethernet adapter to gigabit. It plays all my files fine and even HEVC if the files less than about 5GB.

Cannot go wrong with this, the wireless inside isn't strong enough for 10GB films or above though.

I will be frank, that is not the best router (but I am sure you know that) but make sure you are on the 5GHZ band which will help a lot

faster at using Kodi??

That would surprise me as the Fire TV has twice the RAM (although admittedly the Nexus has a slightly faster cpu) - but tbf how much faster can it be to be a deciding factor?

I have a Fire TV and My girlfriend has 2 x Fire Sticks - I've set them all up to use kodi - the Fire Stick is slightly slower than the Fire TV but not a huge amount and certainly not to the point where it's an issue.

I considered the Nexus when I bought my Fire TV - The deciding factor for me was the optical output for audio.

it is noticeable, but we are not talking massive amounts obviously, and it could be because it is on the latest version of Kodi, and the people over at Kodi said when they got a official release on Android that optimising Kodi for the Nexus player was one of their goals

I have this with android M. Support 24hz output

It supports it without doing anything... 24Hz and 50Hz switching.

if it is the Superhub 2 AC then yes the model number is VMDG490, but I suspect you are on the standard equipment they send you that is not
