NFC card reader/writer, £31.99 @ Amazon Sold by Feeego and Fulfilled by Amazon.

Wanted a system that tells me when members of my family get back home after work so I know they are home safely. Often they forget to text/email so being a tech geek I thought why not provide a NFC card in their wallet/purse. As soon as they come in they put their wallet/purse near the NFC reader on the table near the door which links to a small PC which then automatically sends me an email.

I came across this NFC reader/writer on Amazon and it did the job well with the provided SDK.

I plan to enable their phone to do the same thing soon.

Thought it was a good deal and decided to share with you all - maybe you can get some benefit out of it like I have, enjoy!

Much cheaper and easier way to do this is use their phones which they probably already have, and grab a roll of dirt cheap blank NFC tags.

Using tasker you can make each phone send an email when it comes into contact with a specific tag.

You could put one in each room if you wanted to be really creepy about it
A good idea but I suspect that if they forget to text/email now, then it's a fair chance that they'll forget to place their purse/wallet next to the NFC Reader. Voted hot.
This seems to be a very creepy use-case too be honest.

Why do you feel the need that everyone gets in touch to say they got home safely? Having to txt or phone that I got home would really get on my tits so I can see why they 'forget'.

I'm suprised the excellent geofense in iPhone reminders doesn't generate an e-mail I'm sure it would be a doddle for apples software developers to setup - maybe there it an app store / play store app?
Not knocking your item but think you've chosen the wrong solution. How many people take their wallet out and place it on the side when they walk in?
Use an IP camera, setup notifications when zone been triggered, you'll get an instant email with image of everyone that enters, 100% fool proof

An even easier way requiring no NFC tags at all is to put tasker on each mobile and set it up to send the email when their phones connect to the home WiFi and or a location based trigger.

Alternatively, create a Family circle in Google + and allow others in that circle to view location - then add the Google + location widget to your home screen and just view that when you want to know where anyone is.
You could just tag all the members of your family and track their every move under the guise of 'safety'
Even better, why not just install cctv cams in all the rooms and you can watch them get back remotely and know exactly what they are doing once home. For safety reasons though obviously.

An IP camera that uploads when it detects differences would cost about the same - it would be a bit more creepy but you could justify it as a burglar deterrent
Or just get a message when their phones connect to the home wireless. As long as they carry phones, no extra hardware is needed, and no extra software on the phones.
android device manager?
I've not tried this app but iPhone users may be able to geofence home and send a text-

Bit creepy chap tbh!
can you not chip them (pet style) and have a reader in the door way
On Android both Tasker (paid) and MacroDroid (free) do this - I get a text message when my daughter arrives at school. I set it to update location at a more frequent interval between 7 and 9am, location can be acquired either by GPS, cell towers or WiFi hospots in range. Completely invisible to her. Peace of mind for me.

Or better yet...install a human sized catflap (manflap) and have it read their collar as they crawl through. Also ask a neighbour to keep an eye on them and feed them while you are away...but beware that like a lot of pets if they get better treatment elsewhere they may just decide to live with them instead. Especially if their keeper quite literally 'puts tags' on them.
Use Life 360, and set trigger points up so when there home it lets you know and it's a tracker as well, Used with my niece started driving so sister knew she'd got to work ok and home again in car.
We use it when otherhalf goes walking with dog she feels safer that I know where she is if she's longer than normal.
The guy wants to play with implementing NFC. Leave him alone and comment on the price of the item.
I buy these for work every month for new staff and this is a reasonable price, regardless of why you want it. They were £30.99 in April from Feego so they have been cheaper.
