Important. This deal is not a guarantee there will be any stock in the store, so please don’t make a trip you wouldn’t have made otherwise just for this item - we should all limit our time out of our houses to help slow the spread. Please also shop responsibly - don’t stockpile, and consider whether you could help out any vulnerable neighbours or friends.

First of all a massive thank you to the amazing NHS staff who are continuing their outstanding efforts to save peoples lives.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, Lidl has today announced it will be donating thousands of its fresh fruit and vegetable bags to NHS staff.

Healthcare workers across Great Britain will be awarded the freebies from the retailer in an effort to help provide frontline NHS staff with fresh produce.

Even better, the packs will be delivered straight to hospitals nationwide, so you do not need to visit the store to receive your free pack.

Best NHS offer we've seen yet and still the moaners complain that they have been left out! Sad.

Incidentally, some of the most exposed frontline workers are the supermarket staff (all supermarkets); hours a day in close contact with customers, some of whom seem not to have heard of distancing or don't care. And PLEASE don't lick your fingers to count your banknotes into the hands of staff - filthy individuals without a clue!
What about binmen that empty the bins which prevents rats which carry diseases, will they be getting free fruit and veg or perhaps a clap? What about sewerage workers that prevent blockages and raw sewage coming back up into your home or police and firemen??

yes nurses and doctors do a great job but so do many others in society, singling people out for rewards just seems unfair. There are a multitude of professions that without we would be in dire straits.
Agree with above. Everyone that is still working deserves applause!
NHS shop staff, food manufacturers, local council workers just to name a few.
I am clapping for everyone!
It will all be scoffed by the the NHS pen pushers whilst the medical staff are busy. Fact I was told by one of them.

Wow this is so nice of Lidl to do - well done
Can we still visit the store and collect our free pack?
What a lovely 'lidl' gesture.
Seeing a lot of “deals” for nhs workers that look good on the surface but in reality half the shops don’t even implement them.

This seems a well thought out proposition to help in this time of crisis. Well done Lidl.

The article suggests that all of the packs are being delivered to hospitals directly and I believe they are doing this to save NHS workers time as they do not have to visit the shop directly to save time. However if you are going instore there is no harm in asking
Great idea that must be applauded. Well done Lidl. Not all NHS staff work in hospitals though..... District nursing, GP surgeries, community Pharmacies, Macmillan nurses to name just a few and all stepping up to support us.
And the very frontline....ambulances?

What about the NHS staff that work Monday to Friday? Not really good is it
We were living in hospital accommodation and today they put full veggie and fruits in delivery basket in front of every house.. Thank you Lidl

Some NHS workers only work Monday to Friday so shouldn't this deal go on throughout the week? :/ :/ :/

Not my GP surgery - it is locked, only telephone appointments.

Doctors and nurses are directly looking after covid infected patients. Its majorly passed through human contact, they did this BEFORE PPE was avail. As much as other workers are essential, bin men/fire service/sewerage workers already have safety in place.
2 doctors have died, a 33 year old pharmacist too... theyre called front liners for a reason. Theres noone else that can do their job and theyre doing it SELFLESSLY risking their lives.
Phsycronix28/03/2020 11:42

What a lovely 'lidl' gesture.

Every ' lidl ' helps

EDIT: If it comes to my workplace, I'll gladly take one as I've been eating meat-free for quite a long while for myself. FIRE!

In return the NHS are giving lidl key workers free methadone (collect from NHS nightingale)

everyone with a crucial job deserves to be treated equally, nobody should be singled out as being more or less important or be treated with more or less gratitude.

I give up, i literally just explained why the gratitude was towards front liners. If you cant see that, then im sorry...no amount of explanation will help your agenda.

How many of these 'what about so and so' posts do we really need? It's a publicity stunt for the businesses giving away free things and the NHS are front of the queue. If Lidl et al gave free stuff to everyone still working they'd go bust.
Edited by: "MattyGr" 28th Mar
Bought some tangerines from Lidl yesterday, already got mould on them...
As a frontline worker I'd rather have a bong and a bag of sense.

Hospitals only, (stores haven't receive this stock to hand out)
Happy days
None
I’d rather a pay rise from the government than 70p
This is due to overstocking of produce and the inability to forecast demand.

You’re actually saving them money - so while this looks like a lovely gesture, it’s just an economic strategy.

Lovely gesture though.

Office staff? Most will be deployed to frontline positions enabling them the same opportunities

Of course you're right (in your little mind) but can't cover everyone so better not do it for anyone then? Miserable s@d!
NHS are saving lives a lot of us are key workers and are still working through this and thats great - but not many of us are on the front line actually saving lives- . NHS are worth their weight in gold !!!
