Free Rides and Eats for NHS Staff this Christmas

Between Monday, 23 December and Friday, 27 December, NHS staff members can enjoy either a free ride to and from work or a free meal at the end of their shift from Uber Eats, giving them an opportunity to put their feet up.

How it works

Step 1
NHS staff members can enter their NHS email address in the form until Friday 20 December. We need your NHS email to verify whether you qualify for this festive promotion, but don’t worry, it will only be used for the purposes of this offer.

Step 2 If you don’t already have the Uber or Uber Eats app, you can download it from the App Store or Play Store, otherwise, simply open the Uber app. Tap the menu in the top left corner of your screen and select ‘Payment’. You can then select ‘Add promo code’ towards the bottom of the menu and add each code you’ve been sent.

Step 3 That’s it! You’re good to go. You can now either enjoy 2 x £10 trips or 2 x £10 off your next Uber Eats order. Whichever offer you choose, your codes must be redeemed between 00:00am on 23 December and 11:59pm on 27 December.
If you click through or buy, retailers may pay hotukdeals some money, but this never affects which deals get posted. Find more info in our FAQs and About Us page.

Yes for anyone with an nhs email. But wouldn't you be off on the Bank …Yes for anyone with an nhs email. But wouldn't you be off on the Bank Holidays? Give me that than a taxi voucher anytime

I have worked in the NHS for over 25 years.

While people in other jobs get a Xmas bonus, the only bonus that you may get in the NHS is not working on Xmas day. (if you are fortunate enough that it is not your turn to do it that year)

I have worked numerus Xmas days and other bank holidays. It has meant time away from my family and loved ones at special times of the year. It has caused stress in the family and I have missed seeing the children opening their xmas presents from Santa on xmas day.

BUT

I know that my job is making a difference to other people's lives.

I also know that a NHS system with a limited budget should spend its money on patient care, so there is no spare cash for "staff xmas bonus".

This is a generous gesture from uber to the NHS staff.

For a large number of the public, I am pleased that you and your family members are well and together at this special time of year.

For those members of the public who do need medical care over the xmas period, we will be there for you.

I'm one on £5.50 per hour .. been doing it 13 years and the wages have never changed.. no holiday pay .. no sick pay.. classed as self employed .. but luckily with tips I might make £9.00 per hour .. YAAAYYYYY

I did a 3 year degree, slaved it in the hospital on placements, pay £127 annual fee for my registration and started off on only 11.25 per hour as a Registered Nurse with levels of stress and responsibility on my head that you could only imagine. I never complain about my job because I made the choice to become an NHS Nurse and wouldn't change it for the world.

Sit on my ass for 9 quid an hour? Yes bloody please! Get another job if you're not happy.

Here comes the "Why just the NHS and not everyone else" comments... Because they work every hour of the day they are way under paid for saving peoples lives and massively under resoured. Fair play to uber for Support of emergency services

I'm Christmas Day Afternoon/Evening & Boxing Day in A&E

I get no extra pay at all. I get a day in lieu because I'm working technically on bank holidays. No perk except seeing critically unwell patients and trying to make them better. However if Christmas Day was meant to be an 'Off' day, you still get a day in lieu as it's a bank holiday. Therefore literally no perk of working it.

Thanks Uber.

Than get a different job
I wouldn't mind swapping my holidays with colleagues who would like to spend their christmas holidays with their family and friends and in return would like to have my time off whenever I would want to celebrate my special days. I dont think that many people would mind doing this in my situation if his helps others imo.

Watch NHS staff moan that they don't get enuf freebies

Noone is complaining. I for one am very grateful for this generous offer.

It's nice for my colleagues to be recognised every once in a while for all the hard work they put in, especially in times when most hospitals are busier than theyve ever been, with no increase in resources to cope with demand.

Are you 17?
If not, your employer is breaking the law.
Minimum wage is (from 1 April 2019):
Workers aged 21-24 to increase from £7.38 to £7.70 per hour
Workers aged 18-20 to increase from £5.90 to £6.15
Workers aged 16 and 17 to increase from £4.20 to £4.35

Plus - and I'm devil's advocate here - most people are probably quite happy for nurses to get paid more than drivers. In the same way that I'm glad neurosurgeons make more than baristas.
Just seems right.

Finally, I'm pretty sure that Uber drivers have to be 21, by law.

They put in no harder work than any one else. Look at retail workers, worst time of year for them too
PR stunt. The NHS bureaucrats will be loving this.

And noone is saying otherwise. Some people work 2 - 3 jobs to make ends meet. Rather than noone being recognised/rewarded, its surely a good thing that some are able to benefit from this offer.

How are you on £5.5 an hour and have been doing it for 13 years? Doesn't make much sense to me. 13 years ago with no Uber and very little competition, you should have been booming.

They're not volunteers, they get paid well and working unsociable hours is part of the job.

If she doesn't get freebies then what is this deal exactly?
