Its a shame that carers aren't getting the same recognition and help as the NHS. Many of them working 12 hours shifts with no public transport to get to work in the morning or home on a night.

My wife is a teacher and I'm a civil servant. My wife is still in work every day looking after NHS staff kids so they can go to work, so she is consistently exposed. I still work and am helping the millions of employers with the job retention scheme so furloughed workers can still be paid. Oh, and all the people complaining about waiting 2 - 3 hours to talk to us. Maybe we should all go home and isolate then there would be nobody.
Yes, the NHS are undoubtedly doing a great job, nobody can deny that, but there are others doing vital jobs trying to keep the country going. There is a huge list of people who deserve massive thanks.
Rochester, you are one of those.

nice gesture but its getting a bit tedious now

Tedious? The difference between this deal & any other NHS deal is these guys/girls are providing this service at 100% loss.

It is the same as you surrendering all your wages & your petrol, insurance, tax for your car. These people actually lose everything to provide a service.

Gosh, that is so very cool, well done to those providing this service!
Wonderful proper example of a real gesture that will help the NHS & actually will be at the cost of the company.

Not like 20% off a burger purchase or 10% off your shopping! Its 100% at cost.

Great publicity for the taxi firm too Willy, superb.

At least the taxi firm make jack all out of this. In fact they make a loss on every trip. Would you go out & pass out money to the NHS? Because that is what the taxi drivers are doing & they still have to feed themselves.

Was thinking the same, I could be wrong but it seems as though care home workers are relatively neglected and also paid a lot less than nurses.
Strategic Marketing at its best!

I had to go to A&E yesterday. A scary experience with suspected Covid patients standing outside in a queue awaiting admission to the red zone for assessment. A bit like all those scary pandemic movies youve ever seen. My point is that any genuine offers the front line staff get has got to be a good thing as for some it may turn out to be their last.

The NHS would have come to a deal with this Taxi firm. Free for staff, payable by the local NHS. The drivers still need to earn a living wage.

Those drivers will [more than likely] be self employed, not earning jack at the moment, (I know what it's like, I am a Private Hire cabbie and it is very difficult) , so, fair play to their company, they've gone out and sourced account work for them.

Yep fair play to the company. Lets hope the drivers get reimbursed somehow. Perhaps it more of a gesture of solidarity with care staff in these difficult times rather than something thats going to cause financial problems for Cabbies. Im sure no NHS workers would be happy with that.
Fair play. Good effort, and will steal a bit of trade from Apollo

Cynical speculation? I think so.

There are genuinely kind people out there you know.

Cynical? Far from it. There are kind people, of course, yes. But you need to realise if you're a self employed taxi/private hire driver, you cannot live on thin air. You still need to earn a living. You still have payable expenses. God knows I know exactly what t is like. I am one!

So there is nothing "cynical" about it. It is more likely that the NHS has contracted the firm to take staff to and from work, thus giving the NHS staff "free rides".

I think you've misread my post. I wasn't complaining, I was simply pointing out that the NHS aren't the only people who should be given appreciation just now. If it wasn't for other workers they wouldn't be able to go to work.
I assume you have a breakdown of all the employment details of everyone who has sadly passed away due to this horrific virus?
As for your father, I'm genuinely sorry to hear that.
