Why we love this trip

Balance on a tiny streetside stool in Hanoi's Old Quarter, soaking up the buzzy vibes and the city's best entertainment - the traffic

Who'd have thought green seas and giant mossy rocks could be so pretty? Cruising on Halong Bay is bliss

A little touch of France here, a little bit of China there - and all in Vietnam! Chill out in the cultural mixed bag of Hoi An. Hit up the local beach, cycle through rice paddies or get some sweet threads tailor-made

Is there anything more awesome than Nha Trang? Yep! It's free time in Nha Trang. Whether you fill it with beachside lolling, village hopping or partying is up to you

There's nothing quite like staying with a Vietnamese family in a traditional homestay. You'll be feasting and gossiping with the locals down the sunny Mekong Delta in no time

After a guided tour of Angkor Wat, we guarantee you’ll be feeling very 'Tomb Raider'

For Asia this is expensive!!!!! However Vietnam Airlines are doing some good priced flights to Vietnam and in my case KL.

But knowing where to go and how to get there when so busy with work this made sense to me.

Go on then. Care to share? Don't be lazy.

The other problem with these trips is you do what they want and spend the time they want you to spend. I don't get why this is considered cheap!! How much are you paying for the flights?
I have just had a closer look at the schedule, very disappointing hotels are cheap in Vietnam but they are using overnight trains, you are not going to get much sleep. Public busses being used, I did 15 years back hope the roads have improved, money saved could by cheap internal flights. Hoi An for three days, why? If you go hire a motor bike you can spend two of those days at China beach. There is lots of info out there, or you could just rack up and find out how helpful people are.8)

I had not realised that this is not a local company, here is a quote from Trip Advisor " the exorbitant pricng Gecko sought for the pre- andd post-trip accomodation" Read the small print and reviews!!!!!!!!!
A review on their own site "Nash Rosie

Be prepared to pay extra for everything otherwise you will spend every single day as a free day. The Group leaders are only interested in the tips they will receive from you on the last day and they will remind the group every single day that they are expecting a group tip!! As soon as they get their tip on the farewell meal they'll be gone without saying goodbye! The trip notes say you have to contribute to a tipping kitting but it doesn't state you have to do this twice - once for Vietnam and once for Cambodia! So budget twice as much!! And you have to practically beg the group leader to see the tipping sheet! On 3-4 occasions you will have to check out of your hotel at night in order to board a night train so you will have to pay extra for a "day room" - this IS NOT included!! So be prepared to pay extra for this as well!!! Don't expect the group leader to tell you anything about the local area, take a guide book and read it all yourself. Anywhere the itinerary says "walking tour" is just a filler and total joke - it means a five minute stroll down the road. All in all, a very disappointing experience and a big regret booking wig a Gecko especially when I sat next to a girl on the plane home who had the best experience ever with STA for a fraction of the price with lots more included. Don't waste your money!!! I won't hesitate to post this review elsewhere because I am extremely let down and feel ripped off and I know the other people in my group did too. We basically paid for nothing but hotel rooms and a few bus trips.

Myself and my girlfriend have just booked this up, managed to get return flights with 30kg luggage for £370 return which we thought was fantastic.

Total cost with return flights with Turkish Airlines from London worked out £2841. We still need to add airport transfers but there a claimed $18 each way.

Geckos is part of Intrepid which is/was based in Melbourne, Oz and Balham in London. Intrepid was part of the huge TUI travel group until last year when it split away. If you book a tour through a travel company then you're going to pay more than doing it yourself. For a cheap trip like this you're probably better off booking yourself. But it depends on whether you have the spare time and can be bothered. Many people are time poor and cash rich. I always book my own trips but it often involves many hours of research into options. There are some amazing specialist travel companies out there like Exodus (also part of TUI) who do trips like this one to the North Pole on a nuclear powered icebreaker. I've researched this and you can book it yourself cheaper. But they also do trips you can't practically organise yourself.

That tour looks a little out of my budget :'(

I've planned my own trip to Vietnam for Christmas/New Year and have three weeks flying into Hanoi and out of HCM I'm visiting some of these places and other less know ones such as Con Dao.

I'm staying in good rated places, to give you an idea my NYE accommodation was £16 a night for 2. I'm doing three weeks for a fraction of this price. Perhaps I need to do a Vietnam deal....

I did an Antarctic adventure last Xmas and aside from the cruise which I sourced myself I got everything pre and post cruise and itinerary to get to and from the ship myself.

You can sort Arctic cruises yourself and even excursions, Arctic is far more accessible than the Antarctic where you should be able to sort some of your own excursions - you obviously can't sort your own in the Antarctic when you are landing on inhabited places and doing water landings. Booking a package like you've provided in the link here you are paying thousands over as in essence it's just a cruise, go direct to Quark or Polar Cruises and sign up for all their newsletters. You'll get much better offers.
