well overpriced product, PCworld decided to stimulate with the code while other manufacturers offer cashback, I'll wait for further reductions

Any ideas to what's the major advantage between this J1 and the V1?

Heat added, good camera, although I agree with Pablomalin above, price really needs to come down more before it will be a 'hot' deal. Not as downright silly as the price of the Pentax Q though.

Main advantages of the V1 are that it has a viewfinder, a higher resolution screen and longer battery life:

Seen Olympus E-PL1 for 180 (199 minus 10%) in bestbuy southampton today but last one on shelf

I paid £250 for my E-PL1 6 weeks ago in Jessops and it's a fantastic camera.

"...has a portable design..."

That's good then, it doesn't have to be screwed to the floor!

Decent camera, still overpriced. Low £300s will be its 'natural' price point.

Yes, E-PL1 for £180 vs Nikon J1 for over £400 is a no-brainer in my opinion. If they were the same price it would be a much tougher decision. I've got an E-PL2, which is an excellent little camera, but image quality is not quite as good as the Sony NEX, imo. I was able to compare it it to a NEX-5 - E-PL2 is a bit sharper, but has noticeably less dynamic range.

Think the V1's main advantage you'll find is mechanical shutter - much faster response times
