Yep the same, I don't mind waiting.

Very good deal and far better quality than any compact anywhere close to the price.

Had a j1 and loved it. Reluctantly gave it up because I'm too invested in canon. Great deal!!

You can grab a 20x optical zoom canon or Sony for £70 more. This camera doesn't look very impressive to me. 2.5x optical zoom?

I picked up one of these yesterday in my local Tesco, brand new in a sealed box, stunning, absolutely love it !!! £80

2.5 optical zoom. Is that correct.

does anyone know whether it comes with a lens or is it just the body? thanks

Yeah because the quality of a camera is dictated entirely by its zoom.
Edited by: "Sparkster" 27th Dec 2013

My old, cheap £70 camera has a better zoom than this.

Just because it's £270 on amazon doesn't mean £150 is good value for this camera. The people who are saying it's a good deal - what are you basing this on?

A thing called image quality.

The next nearest price is £270, how is that not a good deal? I can guarantee your £70 camera won't have better zoom. Longer? Yes, better? No. The Nikon 1 cameras have bigger sensors than compact cameras, this is a far bigger indicator of quality over megapixels or zoom. Also, it's an interchangeable lens camera, so can be expanded significantly if required.

Food for thought...I bought a Fuji X-Pro1 last week, it has no zoom whatsoever, but it's head and shoulders above any compact camera in all respects.

Thank you for your answer. (Sparkster: take note)

My point about pricing is that just because it's £270 elsewhere, doesn't mean £150 is good value. For example I'd argue that a piece of hotel chocolat chocolate that's half price, still isn't good value for chocolate, even if it's usually double the price.

Absolutely right, although the 1 inch sensors can be found in the Sony RX100 compact camera (more than double this price!), I reckon we'll see 1 inch sensors in a few more models next year too.

£150 is a bargain for this camera. One thing it does very well is take great pics in automatic mode, with very fast autofocus, good in low light too.

I have the Nikon V1, which I picked up a refurb for £200.. It's an older model but has the added bonus of a higher res display, digital viewfinder, mic input and propriety hot shoe but no built in flash. May be worth looking out for one.

If honest though - since buying this camera, i've been reluctant to invest in additional lenses for it... Which is a bit of a waste really.

I had a 20x Optical zoom camera, used it maybe once in 4 years. its hardly the key indicator of a good camera. I'm about to buy an rx100 which is twice the price, and only has 3.6x optical zoom.

This looks a good deal, along with the fuji xf1 at currys.

this the problem when people that don't know about camera's, just look at high mega pixel and big zoom.
the camera with a 20x will have a sensor the size of your little finger nail.
this camera has one the size of your thumb nail, that with the better optics that the 2.5x zoom will give , means a lot better quality pictures.
what you also need to remember is yes its only 2.5x zoom, but that's with the lens it comes with, you can get bigger lens for it

would it not depend on which lens you put on it?

Only 2 x optical zoom wtf

IS the J1 not better value at £169?

Happily the megapixel war seems to be over, I think people generally get that megapixels don't matter now. The marketing depts are now focusing on sensor size to differentiate their cameras from mobile phone cameras, this will hopefully mean people begin to look into and understand how sensor size has a huge (I would say the biggest) impact on photography. The bigger sensors found in Nikon 1s/Sony RX100s and upwards enable things that phones are unlikely to ever replicate.

One side effect of big sensors is relatively short zoom ranges to keep cameras fairly small (simple physics), however if such things matter you can more than likely crop the hell out of a large sensor image and still end up with very good quality photos.

Whats it like compared to this. OlyMPus E-PL3 White Digital Camera with 14-42mm lens kit....

Spent my money of this now instead of the Sonos I wont seem to be getting from earlier ;o(

Is there any other camera with a similar sensor area as cheap as this ?

This is an amazing deal!

This is not about Megapixels and zoom factor, this is more about photography, low noise at lower light levels. It's optimised for different things than the usual compact.
