hot! guessing this is store specific? Shame really, I'd snap this up if it wasn't the other end of the country!

Great deal for this lens. I paid double for a grey import last year.

just called them, they wont let me order over the phone and post one out to me - was worth a try!

Don't suppose anyones feeling kind enough to pick me one up if I cover all costs plus the price of a london pint?

excellent price, I bought the VR version a couple of weeks ago for £145.

Do we think this will be in all stores or just London?

Edit: not offered at Cribbs Causeway :-(

yeah, reduced from £179 to £65 - lens' for DSLR's aren't cheap!

Just called them up as i thought being a Londoner i'd pick it up locally and ship it to whoever was interested. However, on calling them up.. found out that it is a second hand lens with no warranty whatsoever

that seems wierd cos there looks to be a stack of boxes behind the sign! Lets hope whoever answered the phone wasnt trying to keep them for their friends!!
Oh well thanks for trying ......

Gonna go down to my local Jessops tomorrow see if they've got it, if so HOT deal, hopefully not just a local deal to your area.
Maybe at this price due to it being an older model? (i.e lacking VR)

Will this be compatible for D40 ??

Yup!

This is almost worth a trip to Oxford Street to check...

... almost...!

nice, i'll try pop down there at lunch. (if i get time.)

If i get an extra one would anyone be interested then? feel free to PM me

Good lens, IMO the VR is worth the extra £60 odd over this lens as optically it is better, however this is a great deal if your budget doesn't stretch so far!

Yes and no..... the lenses for nikon D40 need to be AF/S to get the autofocus.

"Lenses: The D40 only autofocuses with the latest AF-S lenses. If you already own or intend to use older-style AF lenses, like the perfectly good 70-300mm G, get a D50 instead. The D50 and D70 use any AF lens perfectly, while the D40 makes you focus the older lenses by hand. My favorite Nikon 18-200mm and 12-24mm are AF-S and work perfectly."

Not a staggering deal - VR version a better choice. I got the Tamron equivalent of this for £30 delivered albeit no AF on D40

How are people deciding this is the AF rather than the AF-S? The link to the Jessops site shows the AF-S and the photo in the OP doesn't specify either way.

if only this was a sony :-(

hot anyways

As this lens has the Silent Wave Motor for Auto Focus built in, it does auto focus on a D40. It is an AF-S lens. I suggest Fivecents adjusts the title of this deal to include "AF-S".

hi all
will this fit a sony a350
regards

i have a a300 and dont think so! :-( mintola (sp?) ones do apparently nont tried any yet

also you have no need for the AF lenses as its built into the body

fine with D40
good value if this is your budget, but only useful in good light-conditions.

VR for extra £60 is worth every penny, as it will be slow at long focal lengths.

It wont fit Sony as its a Nikon lens  theres the Tamron 55-200mm at Bristol Cameras that same price range and a ok lens that will fit if select the Sony fitting is £59 with postage on top

I agree that the VR version is a much better lens , but can't find it for under £149. Where are you seeing it for £129 odd?

Thanks.

They do seem to have gone up a bit recently I paid £120 something last year for the VR from dixons (pricematching). I think the weak pound is affecting the import prices and this is having a knock on effect.

Deal in the OP is hot by the way!

So definitely the silver one?

Yeah, you can't get the VR lens for ~£130 any more. The Yen is strong too so that makes it even harder for the Japanese exporters.

'silver/black' in the photo suggests its its both the silver AND the black versions

Here is a link to another forum listing D40 compatible lenses. I made the mistake of recommending an AF lens to someone before Christmas, only to find afterwards that they need AF-S or AF-I lenses.
I'm just glad I've a Canon, much easier.

Not available in the north west, must be just that store.

still can't believe I got -40 when I posted a deal for the VR version of this couple of weeks ago! hotukdeals.com/ite…-i/

That was more than likely because it was from camerabox who make really **** customer services look professional by comparison. And ordering from them is like Russian roulette, place an order for a lens and they'll post you out a banana and an old shoe!

Phoned round several Jessops none in store at that price and all say "huh?" when mentioning the price for this.

Methos.

I listed this one and it has gone up slightly since...

might be worth checking bristolcameras.co.uk ;-)

Went to New Oxford Street Jessops just before lunch. They are bloody refurbs, what Jessops call "G stock previously owned, may have had a fault" as the sales assistant stated.

Voted COLD for a waste of time.

Oh and there were only 7 left in scuffed boxes
