Just to add I've kept an eye out for this for the last month or so, and yesterday I found one at £257.94 delivered which was a good deal (given other prices), so this is a stonking deal for a lens which is better built and has more flexibility than the Nikkor 55-200mm lens, it also has the 2nd generation of Nikkons vibrations reduction system VRII rather than VRI featured on the shorter 55-200 lens. See here for how other prices match up: camerapricebuster.co.uk/pro…tml

Also if anyone know where I can get a cheap 58mm Hoya UV filter please speak up!

this is a very hot deal, thanks

hot deal heat added, there are nikon sd cards (2gb 4gb) cheap which will allow you to get a free usb 4gb drive as it takes it over 200

A great price .. .( Even though am a Canon man)

or even to get over the £200 add this AA USB batter charger like I did - 99p bargain!

jacobsdigital.co.uk/p-4…spx

then add a 58mm filter for under a fiver....

thanks a lot OP - that means my 55-200 will be for sale soon!!

Great price, pity I bought the 55-200mm a few weeks ago :o(

Ditto! Hot from me as well.

Ironically I was gutted to have missed out on the 55-200 VR a few weeks back, so started to keep tabs on both of them. Luck it seems was on my side this time. Although I stupidly didn't add a 99p item to get the 4gb usb, at least I remembered 3% quidco!

Blasphemous

Ditto! Hot from me as well.

Hot

I hate Jacobs camera. They never honoured their deal. Few month back they cancel my order because of the error they made on the pricing. Never informed me, waited for weeks and end up calling them. Cold for me because of the brand Jacob.

sorry, a beginner's question, can i use this lens with D40?

Anyone seen a review of this lens; I'd like to know if its nay better than my tamron (same size) as it a bit wobbly in the autofocus department.

Thanks

Well I definitely didn't come on here to buy a lens, but there you go!! Looks like there could be a few 55-200 lenses being sold on here soon. (_;)

Yup. "AF-S" means it's got a motor. Which is good.

D90 as well??? Hope so, I just ordered one, thanks.

Happy with the 55-200 for £120 thanks. Would be interesting to see these two go head to head on quality of images as more zoom can equate to less quality in optics - what do others say?

Yes and yes its a DX lens.

Yep - the D90 also takes "AF" ones without the motor.

Another ditto here! ****!

Ahh roasting. I didnt buy my 55-200 that long ago either.

Cheap price, but not for me as just bought 80-400 f4 D AF

Thanks, reserved one for collection. Might lose the quidco but going to be in town tomorrow anyway, plus can check it out before buying.

Has anyone seen any reviews for this lens? Can't seem to find anything, which is understandable considering its relatively new.

My only concern is maybe I should opt for the 70-300mm full frame version incase I trade up my D90 in the future??

Anybody wants Nikkor 55-200mm Lens as I have it spare; Its as good as brand new ..hardly used it 3-4 times as I received 18-200mm as gift after getting my SLR and since then i have not removed my lens.

How do you find it at the top end shooting in low light/fast moving objects?

The quality of the 70-300 VR is definitely a notch or two better (I have one). For around the £250 mark you can get one in mint condition (albeit s/h). Hopefully it'll be going on a D700 soon too

supposedly slow for sports slow autofocus!! which is holding me back plus they are around £230 on fleebay.. hmm good price and value lens def great for wildlife and some still type photos good boca

Thanks, maybe i'll hold out for the 70-300. Depends how tempted I am tomorrow when I pass the shop.

AF-S means the lens has a silent wave motor. Very fast, very quiet.

You can buy lenses that don't have those motors, but still have a motor, so they will still focus on a camera like the D40.

I hope that's clear.

hi all, can anyone tell me which to go for, either a used but well looked after canon eos400 or a new nikon d3100?

Just got this lens for xmas along with a D3100 18-55 kit and have to say it is a great lens I have got some great shots of my son playing with all new toys for xmas and running around like a mad man X)

I would have a play with both and the only well to truely tell is by using both cameras at the same time. At the time of buying my Nikon D40X, I tested both in the shop and for me the Nikon's colours were quite superior, all down to personal taste.

Worth looking at steves-digicams.com/cam…ws/ as the sample photos always use the same subject, thus you can have both shots side by side and compare the output. (edit type your model into american google, it will then give you the American model number and you should then be able to find the corresponding model)

I would suggest you check the reviews of cameras in your price bracket and they will generally tell you if one stands out (sites like preview are good). This is how I chose the D90, which was ahead of most of the competition when I got it. However, usually there isn't much in it, so its best just to narrow it down and try them in store to see which feels best.

Having read through forums before purchasing my own, so many posters who were dithering between cameras found the choice became clearer once they'd tried them in store for a bit.

Is this compatible with d60?
