Guys this is a BIG BOY lens!

For the last few months I have been searching up and down the country for stock of this lens at a reasonable price. (Even considered importing from HK). Today I stumbled across this on the Jessops site at the price of £1648 so I reserved and collected it from Bluewater.

Also, Quidco tracked (4% of value excl. VAT) £56.10 giving me the lens for the handsome sum of £1591. A bargain if you ask me.

Not going to give you that dont vote cold rubbish but please bear in mind that this is Nikon's flagship and is primarily targeted at serious photographers.

now THAT's a quality set of binoculars

If I spent that kind of money in one go, I'd expect to wake up in the penthouse surrounded by beautiful naked women and a roller parked in the swimming pool :whistling:

Wow!! Ordered! I can see naked women fron 4 miles away with this!

lol, for people with more money than sense.

Unless your a serious photojournalist, outside almost everyday in all weather then this is the lense
for you. Born again photographers with more money than sense, this lens will make you look the
same as born again riders.

Can you see UFO with it?

And you clearly have no clue what you are talking about, anyone needing a fast lens for motorsport, anything requiring lowlight but faster speed ie indoor sports, its also a great portrait lens too and yes it is expensive (although I managed to get a VRI S/H for about £1k) it is also one of the best lenses available for this sort of money, so a good deal (H and R), for those that are considering this version though consider you may be taking the risk with some slightly sub-std manufacturing issues (read on the web for further info) you may want to spend a little less the minimal spec differences of the older version of this superb lens

I guess I'll get Nikon to service or repair the lens if I flaky internals.

You can't beat Nokin & Canon lenses. These are high top quality lenses.

If your buying something like this its not HUKD your be searching on.

I thought jessups had gone bust , so no guarantee with this purchase

Nope. They did a DFE swap with HSBC, their bankers.

Although some on the LSE / financial forums are saying Jessops are on borrowed time. Asset strip, then bullet. :whistling:

A LENSE? this is a lense which costs TWO THOUSAND (almost) pounds?

what the crappola? oh well, amybe nasa will buy one to look at the andromeda galaxy or something.

camerapricebuster.co.uk/cat…tml

worth checking with Fixation if they price match as their customer service is 2nd to none. I have V1 good lens, a bit longer physically than the old lenses. Also have a sigma 70-200 f2.8 , not as good but costs half of the nikon. If your seriously looking to buy some gear go to Focus On Imaging in Birmingham. There are always show offers which cannot be matched online. Don't forget your credit card!!

I missed out on last weeks Euro millions, so I'm out.

Thanks- ordered.

It's a LENS and yes it's damned expensive but great quality.

Those that assume that people on HUKD's are only after £1 Poundland deals are misguided. The place is about the best deals on anything, If someone listed a Rolls Royce new for £30K it's still be a super hot deal. do you want to spend more than you need to.

As it is, my budget didn't stretch that far (just my desire) so bought the Sigma equivalent lens when I was in the US last week for ]£520. Not as good I'm sure but still a bargain to me for my particular low light photography (gigs before you start s******ing at the back!)

EDIT: wonder why sni gger ing should fall foul of the HUKD police, or do they use the same software that banded mention of a certain South Humberside location beginning with Scun

Nice lens

f2.8 and a good price too.

For those who think it's alot of money then compare it to a taxi driver who would spend £12k plus on a new car and then insurance on top etc.

heat,

now I'm sure I saw the end of a rainbow somewhere

How about this lens also at Jessops for a mere £11099..

Well said, Its hard to remember sometimes that a large majority of the site is younger people who's most expensive purchase is an iphone or a PS3 that their parents brought them..

That'll be the 800mm ? Even taking into account the exchange rate and Jessops overcharging by £1K for it, I'm not sure why its gone up £2K since launch.

But that's still dirt cheap .... Canon used to do a 1200mm f5.6. It's still possible to get hold of it, as there isn't a lot of call for a £80K lens ;-)

Indeed. I for one am fed up of the constant barrage of poundshop offers on here, and welcome good deals on much more interesting bits of kit with welcome arms.

Thanks for posting, not actually after the Nikon one, after the Canon f2.8L IS 70-200mm but its nice to see things get posted when they are a good DEAL. After all this is a DEALS website.

Why is it for people with " more money than sense"? First up, for pro users, this is a quality piece of equipment which will earn its keep ....and will lose little value if and when sold on. Why do you think newspapers and magazines supply their togs with top quality equipment / lenses?...because they are worth the money spent on them.

Second...if it's for keen amateurs who can afford it....that's their choice, isn't it?

It cetainly won't make anyone a better photographer, that's guaranteed, but it will broaden the horizons of those who invest in this and similar lenses.

kinda agree, but not for motorsport as you are too far away....you need a longer lens otherwise your shots are too distant...i have a canon dslr and use the excellent and fairly pricey 24-70 l lens for most shots, but i borrowed my bros canon 400 pro lens when i took shots from the stands @ silverstone

well its what the pros use with top range dslr to get those all important decent close up sports pics.....theyll easily make their money back after a few decent pics....what do think they use, a garbage (in comparison) £200 point and shoot...lol lol lol lol!

And your basis for this quote is? What tosh! I would imagine that the majority of people posting on here are aged 30 to 60. I have 3 kids 19 to 27 and I doubt that they have even heard of HUKD. I'm assuming that by younger you would mean under 25s or as you're inferring that parents buy iphones etc maybe you mean teenagers lol. :w00t:
