One of the MUST TO HAVE lense for a DSLR. Works with the entry level D3100, D3200. Works in very low light situations and great for portraits.

Usually sells around £149. I bought one for £145 - £20 Cash back in January. But under £100, this lense is worth buying.

Wide aperture DX format 35mm lens (35mm equivalent of 52.5mm)
Large maximum aperture of f/1.8
SWM (Silent Wave Motor) for fast and quiet autofocus
Advanced optical design for excellent edge to corner sharpness
Two focus modes - M/A (manual-priority autofocus) and M (manual focus)

Where did you buy from? If it's Amazon just send it back or simply don't accept the delivery and Amazon will refund you. But I'll first buy this one to secure the price.

The crop sensor equivalent to the 'nifty-fify'. Great price for a great lens.

Bought it off eBay. And it's already shipped.

Been waiting for this to drop, great price!

Deserves much more heat than this, amazing price, ordered and my thanks to the op

You beat me to it, I came on here to post it. Great lens for the money even at ~ £145, at this price you can't go wrong! Heat added

Fantastic lens. Love mine. HOT!

Many thanks OP - just what I was on the lookout for.

Great lens for portraits and brilliant price. Paid £150 last year and that was worth every penny

I paid £130 for this USED about a month ago from eBay, to put this deal into perspective!!

Hot Deal. Still looking for a deal on a D3200

Great price, may have to grab one, but spent so much on glass this year already and the mrs wont be pleased.

Wish this was Canon lens! I'd love to have it

Doesn't appear to have VR. Is VR going to be important on this type of lens?

Ordered, thanks OP.
Can't wait to try it out.

Nope, VR is only beneficial when using a telephoto lens. At 35 mm (50mm equivalent) VR would be made redundant. This is a great lens, I purchased it last year for about £150, it is a steal at this price!

These are superb lenses. Why oh why oh why don't Nikon sell the camera bundled with this instead of the compromised 18-55mm zoom that seems to be "de rigeur"?

If you have a Nikon DSLR you simply have to have this lens.

I agree with others who say anyone with a Nikon dslr should have this lens. It is quite brilliant, and at this price, it's a giveaway.

Its a wonderful prime lens - had one for around 5 years and use it frequently. Bargain at £100.

In most circumstances, no. You would only need VR at shutter speeds beyond 1/50s and considering it's a f1.8 lens at max aperture you could almost always get away with opening the aperture before you have to increase the shutter speed. If you have a modern Nikon body there is almost no penalty to use ISO values up to 800 and ISO 1600 is very usable, only at circumstances with very low light you would need ISO values beyond ISO 1600 and f1.8.

very hot i am glad i came to hukd today after a long time been sniping this lens for a long time and this price tooo cheezzy to miss thanks alot

Consumer demand. Most slr's used to come with a 50mm lens, specially in the pre autofocus days, and to be fair, a cheap zoom better meets the needs of most people just taking snapshots.
Most people would rather twiddle the zoom ring to get closer, than move their feet.

Can anyone give me a bit of advice on this. I recently bought a D3200 with 18mm-55mm and 55mm-300mm lenses and wondering where this particular lens would benefit me? Is it for closeup shots of things or what? When people say portraits, I don't photograph people, but do they just mean a top-to-bottom shot which is wider? I normally photograph animals/plants/landscape etc.

Fantastic lens! I borrowed one from a friend to take some shots over Christmas and they came out superb.

Was thinking of getting this for my D90, but having read Ken Rockwell's review maybe not. On the right camera the shots look stunning.

People say its good for portraits as the low aperture can blur the background nicely, its a very sharp lens as its a prime lens. As a prime lens it is fixed so set your 18-50 lens to 35 and thats the length of zoom you will get. Just because you have the focal length already covered do not dismiss this lens as it will be far sharper than your kit lens and the 1.8 is lovely to have.

Hope that helps, i had this lens before i switched to full frame and its a great piece of kit, absolute bargain for the price!

Amazing lens and great price. The bokeh on it is amazing.

Tell her this one is double glazed and will actually save money in the long term.

Daft question but...

Would be OK for Macro shots too?

I'd get it from tesco.. clubcard points, cludcard vouchers if you've got them (new statement just released) can be converted into vouchers (£5 clubcard points = £10 to spend on cameras etc)

Cheers, Have been trying to pick one of these up for the last week on ebay for a good price, ordered from amazon using my prime trial for free next day delivery, already sold out at tesco.
