Good travel compact if you don't want to stretch to the Coolpix S9700 (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/nikon-coolpix-s9700-30x-optical-zoom-16mp-gps-wifi-164-95-john-lewis-2180844), which basically adds a longer zoom lens and GPS.

Good price , shame about the colour.

Is it better than a decent phone? Want a new camera, but really wondering if it's worth spending money on one.

I have had a Nikon Coolpix for nearly 5 years, fantastic camera. This one is so far advanced over mine. If you want a decent camera for £100 get it quick.

Bought one at £110 late last year and it's a superb camera for the money. Very fast startup and shutter response so very easy to catch shots within seconds. 22x zoom just about as much as you can cope with before needing a tripod.

If you are in the market for a new camera this is one to be checked out.

Voting hot despite the colour (mine is in black!)

it is a good camera. the zoom is nice and clear and for its sensor size the pictures are sharp. its a definite upgrade from a camera phone. its not as good at night ,ok with flash but without dont expect any pics you would keep. very pocketable though.

Thanks Ray for your input. Just ordered one so will see for myself soon .

Looks like a good deal - have some heat.
I know this isn't a review site, but if anyone's interested, I have the 9700 which is largely the same, but with bigger zoom and geo tagging (which I've never used). This is a good camera - the pictures are excellent - but there are a few things I preferred on my old Lumix and I would probably go back to one of those next time. The flash is a pain for 2 reasons: it pops up just were I like to hold the camera and if you select no-flash, it resets to auto every time you switch off/on. Other than that the controls are not quite as intuitive as the Lumix. Oh and no external 'thing' for charging the battery - has to be charged in the camera, so can't charge one while using another (if you buy and extra one).
