Spoke to Park Cameras today about the 3100 and they said the Panasonic G5 is a better solution e.g. portability on holidays.
I use this camera and it is excellent

In terms of portability you may be right. It is, however, approximately 58% more expensive than the D3100 before cashback, which is a pretty big difference!
Had onr of these for 6 months now, very good camera, Gets a average 9/10 ratings on most camera review sites.. Bargin
Just got the same deal at Argos today. Great camera and very portable for an SLR.
I brought this yesterday from Argos for same price. Got it from the stores within 1 hr.nice camera..loving it.

Anyone know where the best place to buy lenses etc is? There seems to be a lot of sites for this, but somewhere with consistent good value would be good to know.
also at argos LINK
Amazing camera - if you buy one, you wont regret it

Hot price
How does this camera compare to my current Canon D400?
Just bought, thanks
Ordered this, I hope it doesn't continue to rapidly decrease in price now haha!

"...brought..." - LOL X)
Do you still get £10 voucher with Argos?
bought this back a few months ago for £270 so this is hot. not even used it much, i would say get another lens because the kit lens is average even though you can get some good images

You don't buy an SLR for portability.

If you want that get an RX-100!
Very hot. Amazon too which is even better.
I'm going to get the camera but which extra lens? 70 - 300mm, would you go for a stigma or spend the extra £70 and go for the nikon lens that has VR??

I reserved the camera at £285 last night on Argos. What are the chances of getting it for that when I pick up? They seem to have jacked the price up.

Seems to be showing as £298 on Amazon for me now.

You should get it for £285 still.

A colleague has the d3100. It's not particularly heavy and I was very tempted but I went for the G5 with power zoom lens for the better video.
Unless you really want the compactness and better video, then if price is important the d3100 is a great camera.. and does get you started with Nikon range and can upgrade lenses and bodies at will.

I however am still delighted months on with my G5X kit.

I haven't seen it for £285 on Argos. Did you mean amazon ?
Yep price has now increased at both amazon and argos - sorry guys! Hope it helped a few people out
I placed an order for it last night for £285 and received a confirmation for the order. However I just received an e-mail from amazon this morning that my account was hacked and was used to make unauthorised purchases and my order for the Nikon camera is now deleted.

I found this highly suspicious that now the price was jumped up to £298 and I used my exact card details, billing address, e-mail and delivery address from a previous order just earlier this week so I have no idea how they came to this conclusion. I'm at a personal opinion that this is just a facade to renege their pricing and saying my account was hacked as a excuse without saying it was a pricing error.

What is everyone's personal thoughts on how I can get them to honour my original order?

Talk to them: you may find this is a better way to find out than a bunch of unsubstantiated opinions from the HUKD community!

Yep sent them an e-mail and they will honour the original price, happy days!
Ordered from Amazon yesterday. Thanks OP.
Picked up from Argos with price overridden back to £285. Picked up my £10 gift card, but no decent bags or SD's. Popped over to PC world to find a Lowe Pro bag for £4.97 and a cheaper class 10 SD card. Just applied for my 2 year warranty and £30 cashback. Love getting bargains like this.
hoping to see the d7000 next in the bargain basement. ;-)

preferably before the cashback expires that is
Mine's still saying not yet dispatched, on super saver delivery, anyone having the same experience?
