nice bit of kit

I'll let you know what it is like - took the plunge this morning after toying with the idea of the D3100 for a week - but went to see both in action on the weekend and whilst this is £100 more, just seemed a nicer all round package.
John Lewis wanted £439.99 just for the camera
can this be used by someone who is just a point a shoot type of guy or does it involve become an anarak in photography ? thanks in advance .... Do appreciate nice photos and can take good pictures but totally useless with aparture / shutter speeds and iso settings etc

I hope so - as that is where I aim to start. When I looked at it and had a play it had a great guide mode and also an auto setting.
You can select the type of photo you are taking with a few button presses and the camera will set the iso, shutter speed and balance for you.
This or canon 650d....can some one in the know let me understand the differences between them? Help much appreciated
I purchased this last week and is a great point and shoot if that's all you want to do, but you would be doing yourself and the camera an injustice if that's all you want to do is point and shoot. I have booked a 1 day course on Amazon at a local studio to learn how to really make use of the camera. I am really impressed with it so far and look forward to learning how to make/get the most from the camera
Nikon are doing a spring cashback from tomorrow until the end of May - if you wait until after midnight you will get another £40 off with Nikon cashback.

I am currently looking in to both also. I am needing the one with the best video! Boo hiss, I know using a camera for video, whatever next >>>
snapsort.com/com…200

They give it to the Nikon on pic quality, and a few others, but I think the 650 might focus better on vids. Anyone any hands-on experience with both?

Spend less take a mirrorless, same quality.
This is an Ideal camera if your a beginner, and an Excellent camera for video!! Either way i bought this camera approx 6 months back for 420. ( Lens, 2 year world warranty and case are normally included everywhere ) + i got the tripod which was promotion going on at that time. None the less the price should have fallen more.

Same price on amazon - 400. and also there is 40 cash back offer.

Turn it to auto, shoot away.
If you're just going to stick it on auto, what's the point???
I've just given myself a crash course in DSLRs over the past week or two as I've bought a Canon 650D today for video. It's true that you're doing yourself and the camera an injustice by sticking it to auto. Is it that you're hoping you can be lazy by spending a lot on the camera so you can point, shoot and automatically take nice pictures - thus becoming an instant photographer? It doesn't really work that way. If you're going to be that lazy, save yourself and just buy a nice point and shoot. To get the best out of these cameras, buying the camera is just the start - it's the lenses that are the real cost, and the real benefit, of owning a DSLR. This much I now know.
A DSLR in auto mode is like a normal camera on steroids. Its bigger and faster with a better sensor and higher picture IQ.
I have a D7000, which my brother borrows a lot. Some of the pictures taken in the Auto mode are quite incredible.
Can anyone confirm if the cash back offer is applicable to the asda D3200?

Agreed, auto is more than acceptable on this camera. A DSLR Noob at first will think they won't go beyond auto, but It won't take long to start tinkering, then before you know it, you're shooting raw

Long exposure photography is my fav now, which will require manual settings. My point being you have to start somewhere, maybe a year down the line you have taken some good shots on auto, then all of a sudden curiosity gets the better of you and you want to know what else your camera is capable off. Plus its the age of the nerds now, a guy with a camera is a walking sex machine (Not really), but no, people into photography aren't as beige as they once were. You can be cool and own a DSLR.

There should be a guide mode on D3200 which should help newcomers (I should know, I have one) Another good investment is a fixed lens like this

what's the video recording like on this?
my son is needing one to film HD video for his media course and the tutors recommend buying a DSLR now instead of a HD camcorder ,
and my budget won't stretch up to a decent cannon :-)

It's very good - you can do a max of 20mins recording in one go and it has the external mic jack if you want to get one.
Great deal.....heat added.

I was just looking at this camera on Saturday and today I thought I'd search this forum to see if there was any current deals. I'm glad I did.

Anyone know how this compares to a canon 600D?
so tempted right now....

Anyone know how this compares to a canon 600D?

600D is more compared to the d5x00 series. So in theory better than d3200. Even though d3200 has 24Mp.

Have a look at digitalrev (good site) - a comparison on 600D here

The D5200 is a great camera but is aimed at people who understand photography basics - if you have used a dslr before or are keen to get in to it the D5200 could be a better bet but as first dslr you can't go wrong with the D3200.
Thanks kpkiller.

Very interesting.....I'm thinking this may be better then. Plus a friend keeps telling me that cameras are so sensitive it wouldn't be a good idea to buy a refurbished or second hand one for that matter.
