Hmmm do I get this or the non VR lens but get accessory kit from currys for £279 or the VR lens AND accessory kit for £299 from Jessops. Can't decide!

all depends on your needs, personally I would not pay £10 more for the non vr lens kit, but the accessory kit deal from Jessops depends whether you will use it.

as you didn't link them and i cant rememeber what was in each pack i wont comment on that
this though has the new AF-P version of the lens which is supposedly faster and quieter in video

This is the Jessops deal:

Basically a decision of whether having VR or the accessory kit is more important. The extra battery alone is at least £20. I've only ever used DSLR's with VR though so not sure what it's like to not have it...

It is £285 at Rakuten and with the older VRII lens. This deal includes the newer AF-P VR lens which uses a stepper motor for silent focusing (useful for video). Spare battery is handy, but not necessary as the battery life on the D3300 is outstanding, rated at 700 shots. Standard 2 year warranty with Nikon UK.

can you link to that as the only one ive seen at rakuten for £285 is pixel electronics which is the old af-s lense, not the newer af-p.

if im right on the above its

a) old vr lens from pixel / rakuten 285 - 15% 242.25
b) new af-p lens from amazon 270
c) new af-p lens from jessops 299 - includes add battery and bag

not sure im too worried on the extra battery but that and the bag probably over the 30 extra you pay from amazon. decisions decisions.

I think that I would rather keep my D300 or buy a D700 or 5d classic, being as this is just a toy!

I don`t really rate the bag - its nothing special. I would not rule out the VRII lens unless you are likely to take lots of video (in which case the quieter focusing of the new lens might appeal). I don`t know if there are any in-depth comparisons of the lens yet. If you buy the Rakuten one - you also get about 12 quid in Rakuten points and possibly 6 pounds quidco. Go with your gut feeling - anything less and you will be disappointed

I`ve bought several items from Pixel and been happy with them (including a Nikon D5300 for 325 quid plus 80 quid in Rakuten points)

Cheers, yeah my thinking is the bag will be a stop gap. But the battery seems to be £40 on amazon so it's not bad.

I am tempted to go rakuten being a tight sudo-northerner.

Like you say, can't find any comparisons yet so its hard to tell.

Will have a think today. cheers

I meant the Amazon deal includes the newer lens. The D3300 listed at Rakuten is the older VRII lens. I believe they are grey imports also. The Amazon deal is a UK model with 2 year Nikon UK Warranty and support..

The Nikon battery is worth having if you are likely to use it. There are lots of third party cheap accessories and cases on ebay. Eg the remotes are under 4 quid etc.

Yeah, I bought my D3300 with the AF-P lens in the Bristol store by getting the only one left (in Glasgow) to sell it to me over the phone and send it to me. Then I got a notification 4 days ago saying it was back in stock, then was OOS yesterday and back in stock today. Bit of a rollercoaster! I went into JL today to ask for an accessory kit and they kindly obliged. Can't argue their customer services!

I am guessing that it will be the 70-300 f/4-5.6g , which is bad optically and will not autofocus with this camera. YOU NEED A CAMERA WITH AN INBUILT FOCUS MOTOR!!!!!! IT IS A CON.

What's wrong with focusing manually? Haven't used a DSLR for a while and now looking to get back into it but from what I remember it's not hard to focus manually. ..

I'm not saying that it is however this lens is crap on a camera with a bigger viewfinder , I know I own the lens. Add a smaller viewfinder no autofocusing, you have a recipe for bad images. either buy the 55-200 or spend a little extra on the body to get something like the d7000 or d300, which you will actually be able to manual focus with thanks to the big viewfinder and also autofocus.

Any one have a link for the £300 bundle with extras few. John Lewis or jessops, it's saying g pay an extra £30
