Seems like a good price for the D3300 - Sold by amazon so no grey import and a solid warranty and customer service.

Thanks to Somersetpaul - This is the AFP Lens version that should be an improvement on the older VRII lens.

Can anyone tell me if this is the latest model please?
yes it is
unless I'm doing paid work for which ill use my FX gear, this is my goto SLR.
Torn between this and the Panasonic Lumix GX7. Both a similar price and decent camera for amateur shots.

The lens is an older version the latest being the VRII.

Yes, and none of the kit lens are going to make the best of the sensor. I will be moving over to the 35mm 1.8 for this reason to get more out of this excellent camera

Aaah. How come amazon have the product date "Date first available at Amazon.co.uk: 5 Jan. 2016" ? Are they trying to pull a fast one?!

Is it still a good deal?
I bought the latest model 6 months ago as a grey import.

Brilliant service from the company who have a great reputation and backup

You can actually get this on Jessops with an extra Tamron 70mm-300mm lens here for a decent price of £370. Whether or not it is actually a decent lens for this camera is another story!

If you're looking for an entry level dslr then the d3300 is at the top of the list. This price is good, but it's been £300 minus £20 cashback over the winter season with the VR2 lens. It's also been £280 minus £20 cashback with the non-VR lens (notably from Argos). So, this is a good price for now, but not outstanding. I would go for it if I were in need of a camera for an upcoming holiday or event. Regarding the first available date, I think that is just the time from which this combo started to be sold, as I don't think the d3300 was sold anywhere in the UK with the VR1 lens when I was looking to buy back in November

Actually the latest version is the AF-P (like Canon STM) with silent focusing during movies. I was in Currys yesterday and they have the AF-P version in the cupboards under the displays, although they are advertising it as VRII.

AF-P version.

OP's link is currently to AF-P version on Amazon, awaiting stock.

AF-P version was launched around that time.

Should be better, but I haven't seen any reviews. Canon STM lenses are virtually silent when focusing.

Battery: rechargeable Li-ion EN-EL14a battery
europe-nikon.com/en_…300

Can't find any info on the battery life. Perhaps other people know here?
Is it correct that the link takes one to a camera priced 359.99 and one needs to click on other options to see 279? Then what about the other one listed from Tiger Club Stationery for 239? Same thing?

If you manage to flatten the battery in a day. Then you've either been far to snap happy, with no particular photo selection or you bought the wrong camera.
My D610 with a slightly bigger battery but also sensor is about 800 images, no idea about video.
So I reckon this would be 600+
VR active, Flash and screen use will vary this.

Hmmm. Yes thats another seller - but something doesn't look right with them - eg. they have 1TB xbox for less than £200 so I'm guessing there dodgy? Maybe stuff sent from abroad so no warranty? not sure don't fancy taking a risk!

Was also looking at the GX7 as it's at a good price at the moment. Not sure what, if any, advantages this Nikon may have.

Pretty much any Class 10 or faster card will be fine. 32gb would be enough. You only really need fast cards for burst shooting.

Not into 4/3 cameras so not sure, assuming that is what the gx7 is could be wrong. If so I suspect better low light performance in the Nikon.
People think it's worth waiting for the D3500?
Might have a few extra features and the same kit lens. But Could also be £100 more than this at launch.

The Nikon will take better quality pics. Larger Sensor, Higher resoution 24MP vs 16MP, much better high iso, longer battery life and better low light AF. Looks like it's out of stock now though. Typically £299 elsewhere.

Thanks. Food for thought.
Excellent camera - the best entry-level DSLR in my opinion. I bought about a year and half ago from the US for about £340. For those interested, you can see some snaps I've taken using the camera on my Instagram (nickilpatel).

The lens in that one appears to be the non-VR version.
good deal, heat!

slightly off topic but do any of these entry level DSLRs support PC networking capability over their wifi (eg the Nikon D3300/D5500 or Canon 750/760d sort of range) ? i've had a look through the pdf manuals of a couple but i can't seem to see much more than share to social media / other smart devices.

ideally i'd like to flip wifi on and either send snaps to a network share or see the camera as a network drive from a desktop machine. avoiding faffing with cards and leads.

failing that, can you send pics to google drive with them?

Argos one doesn't come with a VR lens, let alone the latest AF-P.
Jessops have done that version for the same price for ages too.
