That's what I thought.
Shame the £40 cashback offer isn't on any more or this would be by far the bargain of the century!

Great cam - ok price

Purchased this camera last weekend from Jessops and it's a cracking piece fo kit

You could also purchase from PC World then get them to price match amazon to get it a little cheaper

Graded return. Supposed to be 'as new' though with full 12 month guarantee.

Out of stock anyway though

Which is the better camera. The Nikon 40D or the canon 400D?

Its not as simple as that im afraid, the D40 comes with a far far better kit lens, but has down-sides too like the lack of a built in autofocus motor so you have to buy special lenses

Both are great cameras, the only downside with the D40 "body" is that it hasnt got an onboard auto-focus motor which means it needs to be mounted to the lense. Only Nikon AF-S lenses and Sigma HSM lenses have the autofocus motor in the lense, which means any other lense will not autofocus on the D40. With this the af-s/hsm lenses are generally more expensive than others.

With the 400D being £40 cheaper (from the other HUKD post), and with the slightly more expensive lenses for the D40 imo you there is no real reason to get the D40 as image quality is going to be similar.

But that is only what I have seen after owning a D40 for ~8 months, can get a A2 size pic blown up nicely from what I have done so far.

How would the Nikon or the Canon compare with the Olympus E410SE(Twin Lens Kit) currently on sale at £299.99 in Currys?

it has been for ages so not hot anymore, i would go for sony a200

I am in the same boat. The Nikon D40 (£240) or the Sony A200 (£272, was £237)???

Bought one of these a couple of months back from Amazon for £207 inc £40 cashback. Superb pictures in all lighting conditions. No heed whatsoever for more than 6 megapixels unless you are printing pictures over 16x20 inches. This camera blows away my Olympus Mju 1200 12 megapixel compact.

Go to a shop and try them in your hands. I have the D40 and am very happy with it, but he A200 wasn't around then. Any of the recent DSLR's are good cameras. The taking of good photos is more down to the person pressing the button than anything else! ;-)

Another important consideration is that buying into a brand ties you to lenses for that system (assuming you will upgrade the lens at some point) - Canon/Nikon mount lenses are much more readily available (as third party lenses as well), compared to four-thirds mount lenses as used by olympus , as well as having a much more diverse range of lens choices.

Rep added for the link - great site for someone (like me) who is looking to replace their camera and camcorder..

Your Rabbit is spoiled..getting Florette for lunch!

I just bought a remote for my D40 from dealextreme:
dealextreme.com/det…236
Not bad for about £2.50, they are more than £12 on Amazon. Works a treat. Seems to be identical to the Nikon one, but has a different logo on the front. Thought it might be of interest to other new D40 owners...
