This is a fantastic camera. I bought one myself from Jessops earlier this year and am really pleased with it.
Good price - worth having a look at some of the bundle deals too while the cash back is still on too...

More relevant for prospective purchasers of the D90..........

D5000 is a good camera -I have one- but the video is quite limited. if you want good video with an DSLR then a Canon 550d is the way to go....but it's quite a bit more money....

This is being supplied with a Non-VR lens. Not a deal breaker but would have been nice to have VR.

Cracking camera and a good price. I bought one from Dixons last Easter for about the same price after discount and now about the same from Currys camerapricebuster.co.uk/pro…tml. The extra £10 from Argos makes it cheaper but then there is Quidco etc to take into account as well....so all about he same.

Mine did come with a VR lens. If this is the standard Nikon bundle then I'd expect it to be the VR lens too.

Mark

I've never seen this camera with a 18-55mm lens that wasn't the VR version so would be surprised if it was this time. I really want this camera!

yea thats why there is a big VR on the side of the lens

the kit Nikon 18-55mm lens has VR.

Yes, but the older versions don't, and one of the reviews says:

"One thing to note is that the lens supplied in this bundle is not VR (vibration reduction) which features in Nikon bundles from other shops."

Interestingly the lens in the picture on the argos site isn't the VR version either.

this camera bundle only comes with a VR

It's not uncommon for big retailers to do odd things with cameras and bundles. I personally would bet that the lens is the II (non VR version as shown in the photo) and referred to in the review, the alternative being - the construction of a deliberately wrong image, and the fabrication of a misleading review.

Edit, there's a fair bit of discussion of this on the web too: forums.steves-digicams.com/nik…tml it's not the VR version, it's therefore less of a deal (but still a fine camera).

bought one yesterday from Dixons for £501 plus Nikon cash back and quidco

ThankYou for posting this, I really love taking pictures but only have a Lumix camera. I would love to get into taking proper pictures with a decent camera but was wandering how easy this would be to do? I do not know how to use a DSLR camera, would it be easy enough to learn how to do it? Thank you x

OK, show me where that big VR is on the Argos picture...

You might want to compare the ARGOS image above to the one below to give yourself a hint as to the ARGOS Lens NOT being VR...

http://www.uncrate.com/men/images/2009/04/nikon-d5000.jpg

Oooh, I think this is pretty convincing proof that there is a non VR version about.

The lens isn't very good anyway and no doubt you would want to buy a new one but you're always better with image stabilisation then without, regardless of lens quality.

I brought this camera today from currys

Just need a nice bag recommending for it... will be carrying a tripod and possibibly another lens in the v near future.

There a posting for a lowepro camera bag that costs about £30 on Amazon. Lowepro are excellent and Amazon seems to do good prices.

I have the D3000 which is just as easy to use as a compact i.e. it has all the same icons on the dial (auto, landscape, portrait etc) as a compact. The D5000 is a bit more advanced and has the advantage of live view (you can see what you're shooting on the screen) and video but should be pretty easy to use too. It's as complicated as you make it basically, stick to auto or delve into the advanced settings.

I've never looked back since buying mine :-D

no VR ? no HOT the!

Most dslr cameras have an auto mode so they are just as easy to use, but then you can alter the appeture and shutter speeds, the big plus for me are image quality and the proper optical viewfinder. The downside is the size and weight compared to a small point and shoot. I think anyone who is looking to buy a digital slr should ask themselves, am i really that interested in photography and will i use it. Don,t just buy one because it is cheap.

Fair point you must be keen on photography to buy a DSLR as they don't fit in your pocket

Mind you, I wouldn't call £500 cheap :-D

I can confirm this is the non vr bundle. I've checked the actual product in Argos and it comes with the standard lens.

For your info I have a d5000 which I believe is one of the best cameras regarding the specs and price. The info about the d7000, just to remind someone interested.

John Lewis sells at same price £499 with Free Del AND a 2 year Warranty

Their pic has a VR lens too

]http//ww…387

if it says not vr from a buyer from argos take heed ---sorry to bother those who say it is vr

Got mine for 425 (inc quidco and cashback) with the Dixons deal a few weeks ago.

Yet the guy who posted the deal got hardly any heat... weird O_o.

It says 'Free 1 year Guarantee' hud. Do they mean 'on top' of the manufacturers 1 year guarantee?

It's Out Of Stock anyway mate.

BE VERY QUICK!!!!! This price is the absolute best ANYWHERE. Works out at £430 with the cash back. That is an outstanding price for this camera and lens. Note, the Jacobs deal INCLUDES the VR lens, this deal, as we have discovered, does not include the more expensive and higher specification lens.

That Jacobs deal should be posted up, its a super hot deal

I have a D5000 and its an excellent camera, though after purchase i instantly replaced the bundle 18-55 VR lens with my brothers D90's 18-105 VR (which makes a hell lot of difference). i never used the pacaked 18-55 VR lense myself but my brother doesnt think very highly of it..

As for D5000 body its lighter/smaller than D90 and has the same sensor and the HD video function + Live View..Worth the money (IMO)

could you buy 9 things from argos at just over £50 each, collect £45 in vouchers and then exchange them all against the camera and possibly take off the vouchers at the same time?

obviously if you just returned the stuff then they'd refund you minus the voucher, but for an exchange probably not right?
