Great price.
Amazing price. This has got me really really tempted now...
It is a grey import, so probably no real warranty.
would this be suitable for filming 1080p/60 indoor video clips for youtube ?

bought one of these from Portus a few months back. Excellent camera - best performance at this price. can't fault it.
buy a second hand d7000 loads better camera.
all essential controls on buttons, not through slow menu options.
really important when you're trying to get the shot....
I have the D5200, fantastic piece of kit, and the extra features and upgrades on this make it even better. Mine is a grey import, and the camera is fully registered with Nikon's UK warranty system and has serial numbers to register for UK insurance cover (should you want to cover it, I did).
I paid so much more for this thing, I need to stop looking on this site...

Good camera though...

Echo'd here in this article >

kenrockwell.com/nik…htm

"The D5300 has the same advanced adjustments as Nikon's more expensive cameras, but often requires you stop and go into a menu where the fancier cameras like the D7100 will have a dedicated button for the same thing, saving time — but only if you actually use those adjustments. On the other hand, for normal people the D5300 has its exposure modes on a big dial on top, while the D4s demands you hold a button and spin a knob to do the same thing, and the D5300 also has modes like "Macro," Sports" and "Portrait" on its big dial, while the pro cameras don't even have these modes.

For most people, the D5300 is a better camera than Nikon's more expensive models precisely because the D5300 is designed for normal people, not for full-time pros. The picture quality is the same.

If you just want great photos easily, the D5300 can't be beat. If you are like me and are constantly resetting the camera from shot to shot as conditions change (very few people know how to do any of this), I prefer the D7100 because it has more buttons to do directly what has to be done in menus on the D5300, while the D5300 weighs less and takes exactly the same pictures as the D7100."

Still a great camera for the money though.
Be careful about dealing with Portus. I had quite a few issues and wouldn't use them again.

Good deal though

D7000 is a LOT heavier - it's 780g for the body vs 480g for the D5300.

Nikon have a cash back promotion on at the moment (£40 for this model). Not sure if above retailers qualify but more details here
Ken Rockwell. This man is dangerous to newbies and those who know no better. For example, he will suggest you use jpeg basic because its just as good as RAW!!. He will tell you that an entry level camera is just as good as a pro level. Then tell you that you must buy the pro level camera on that particular 'review' page, that funnily enough links you to his sponsored retailer. Do yourself a favour, get your advice from other or multiple sources

Comment of the Day !!!
Headline price might be good but I wouldn't buy form Portus, the reviews really aren't that great. Plus it's a grey import which means you could get stung for VAT on top!
I bought this camera prior to Xmas from Portus. I changed my mind on the lens after purchase - decided to go for the 18-140mm and a quick phonecall resolved my problem. Nothing but praise for Portus.
I posted this seller & deal a while back but it had dropped £10 sinc. I got my canera in a few days, no issues. I also rang them to ask about the 2 YEAR WARRANTY which, if needed, is carried out FOC by an authorised repairer in Scotland. Better than most 'grey import' sellers that need the unit sent to base
Gray import. Portus = Poor warranty support. Mine broke 2 months after purchase still waiting after 4 months for it to be returned from the repair house ( aj Johnstone - shocking customer support . No updates just keep getting told waiting for parts.) Had to purchase a new uk nikon as no idea when mine will be returned. Would never use either portus or aj Johnstones again. Be warned!
These go for £340 new on Ebay so not an amazing deal but still good. I have the D3300 and adore it.
Bought this from Portus a month ago. Price, product, delivery time all good. Not sure how fun it will be if the camera breaks, but so far I'd recommend Portus. I'm going to get the camera insured anyway.

Grey imports are not eligible for the cashback.....this is in their FAQ

Is my purchase eligible for a Cashback promotion?
We should point out that some manufacturers occasionally run cashback offers and other special promotions. These are typically limited to the more expensive high street retailers. It is therefore best to assume that Portus Digital products do not qualify for these, unless specifically indicated otherwise.

Shipped from within UK so no import or VAT to pay although if you are a business and want to claim back the VAT then you may have trouble....

You can also claim £40 cashback from nikon. The offer end [b]13/01/16[/b ]
this one or Sony A6000?(I am aware they are more expensive)
A D7000 is far superior to the D5300. I have shot in a professional environment numerous times and the "pro" features like dual command dials mean that when you are in full manual mode you can change the shutter speed and aperture without having to push an awkward button on the top, which is meant for exposure compensation.

As for build quality it is likely that if you are caught in a storm with the D5300 it is likely that it will flood however the D7000 is far more likely to survive as it has weather sealing. Also for amateurs the larger viewfinder will help them when it comes to getting there focus right.

And to finish it off the battery life is nearly twice as much for the D7000 with 1050 shots in comparison to the D5300 with 600.

And before you say I don't know anything I have shot with a D300, D700, D7100, D3100, D70, canon 1100d, 40d and 7d.

Buy the D7000!!!!!!!!

No you can't
Why do people keep going on about the D7000, can you get one of those with a lens for £300? Thought not... The D5300 is a great little camera, not everybody needs much more than this. I paid around £550 for mine and it is more than enough for my needs. It is also fairly light which makes it easy to carry around for those who'd like to do so.

Depends what you want to do with it. They are both good. If you care somewhat about video, get the A6000. If you don't, well, the Nikon is fine.

I would also suggest the Panasonic G7, which is available for £319 after cashback on Wilkinson Cameras. That's probably better than these two as it's essentially a budget GH4, which is an excellent, excellent camera.

I am the exact same, and have had no issues. Great camera
anyone bought from this site? very interested in this deal, sounds to me like grey imports aren't a big worry, thanks
Hah...picture looks like a tie-fighter from star wars!?!...
I purchased from here last Thursday and it was with me Monday. camera is perfect the charger is an america plug but there's an adapter inc. actually helps me as I visit the states a lot so means less to carry. I believe the warranty is through them but hopefully I won't need it so shouldn't be a problem.

I have to say its a great deal its over £100 more at Curry's.

point being I would recommend the company.
