Nikon D5300 Digital SLR with 18-55mm VR II Lens £339 @ Portus Digital

1st post so please don't be too sore on me!

I nearly bought the D3300 advertised on here but really could have done with the wifi offered by this camera. Any other deals I seen for the D5300 had just the VR lens (digitalrev, jessops & SLRHUT), this one has the apparently improved VR II kit, I say apparently because I'm no expert & only going on the information of others.

The thing that really swung it for me was the 2yr warranty which is covered by an authorised repairer in Scotland, obviously it's an imported camera.

I ordered mine on Friday, that was supposed to be the last day of the sale, it's extended to Tuesday 10th November now.

I hope this helps someone!

Thanks Andy, sorry for the nOOb mistakes!
Bought mine from eglobal

yes.. it is fom China .. what is the problem ?

Paid £321 and arrived in 4 days.

just perfect
No problem whatsoever, did I say there was?, I did buy 1 after all.

I'd be interested to see the link to yours, is warranty covered within the UK for 2 years & does it have the VR II lens?
Don't forget £9.99 delivery charge as its over £250
Sorry..was not specific for you..

Just looked that site up, great price! Do you know where the warranty is done?

This is the same deal as I posted but on your eglobal site, well found!!

This model has a flip out screen, more focus points, higher resolutions screen and gps compared to the D3300
As it has VRII this is a good price camera
Thanks mistafaz, I'm no pro with cameras so I appreciate the differences being pointed out
Hot. Only wish I had the cash. Got a daughters wedding (Ultra expensive) a new three piece suite for living room, THAT room and main bedroom to decorate, along with corridor/stairwell, new super-dooper TV needed for front room and numerous other things to pay for.
So, sadly this great deal isn't too far up the pecking order.
Still a hot deal though ! X)

You're seeing insults and denials where there are none and never have been.
Paranoid in other words
Is this not a bit concerning? The bit about if the product is not repairable then in the 1st 12 months it's a sliding scale at 8% a month off
For non-repairable products (excluding misused non-repairable products) that are purchased within 12 months, eGlobal Central may choose to compensate you by a certain percentage of value of the unit price, with the consideration on time of use (12 months at maximum). The percentage value is fixed at 8% each month. For example, if the unit price of your non-repairable products is GBP 1000, and you have used it for 2 months, the compensation will be GBP 846.4. However, such copensation will be issued in the form of eGlobal Central store credit only.
Good price for the camera - if you are looking to get a Nikon D series camera keep an eye on Pixelelectronics on Rakuten. Managed to get a good deal on the D5300 (currently back up to £375 on there now)....warranty not as good as the one from Portus though...

I don't think it says anything like that on the Portus warranty but I haven't looked into it in great detail
Nice camera with plenty of heat added from me, I don't buy from cheap links had plenty of trouble getting refunds from Hong Kong and China before. They have different trading laws from UK so buyers beware!

Free delivery on this, says in big orange writing near the '2yr warranty'
Do I buy or wait for Black Friday. Hmm wait it is then. good deal anyway shame about the noob don't flame me comment.
Bought d5300 body only from Portus a few months back for £299 so if you want the lens inc this is a v good price. They post from uk so no customs issues and product i got was Japanese version. They offer 2 year warranty and use a specialist repairer based in Scotland. I decided to go with them as they've been around for a while, and the savings were big... at the time uk body only was on amazon for £429.

Interesting. Avoid these cowboys (eGlobal not the deal company) as they seem to be unaware of consumer law and therefore it would be foolish to buy anything from them.

No shame here, for what reason?

Good luck waiting, but will you put Black Friday off to cyber Monday?! Hmmmmm......
just a reminder that, if WiFi is a key factor in your purchase choice, you can get a WiFi SD card for £10 or so instead. I got one, works fine, but quite honestly I've hardly used it as its not that difficult to just plug a lead in. I have to sit in front of my PC to sort and tweak the pics anyway. Useful when on holiday and I want to save the pics to a tablet

If I don't need now then I can wait. It is a good deal. However since I can wait, it might be financially beneficial for me to do so.

Just asking cos I didn't even know these existed but will they also let you control some of the camera functions using a smart device?

yeah that's actually really dodgy
Wow just bought one of these 2 days ago from HDEW Cameras.
Same lense and its a UK company so should be eligable for the £40 cashback Nikon are offering on this model at the moment.
Cost me £350 plus £9.99 delivery. Oh and it comes with a 3 year warranty as a bonus.
Just twiddling me thumbs waiting for it to arrive now.

Taken from their FAQs page..........

UK Cashback schemes

Please note that our products do not qualify for Nikon UK, Canon UK and other UK cashback offers or promotions which Nikon, Canon and other brands limit to selected UK retailers.

Incidentally, how did you get on with paying them. I was considering buying a lens from them, but their SagePay pages came up as insecure on my browser (Firefox), I figured that paying over the phone may potentially carry the same risks if they are using the same system at their end, and paying by direct transfer seemed like an unusual set up for a company with on-line payments - whilst I would consider this for small purchases I am reluctant to pay a few hundred squids to people I don't know, with no consumer protection, unless the product was in my possession.

Oh well so much for that idea :-)
Payment went through ok though. Using Chrome and didn't get any warnings come up
Used my credit card too for a bit of added protection

I used my CC too, I always do for the added protection as you mentioned.

Those last 2 cameras you bought, it'll be interesting to see if you get the cash back, I doubt they're official uk sourced units.

I rang the number on the Portus site & spoke to a guy, he seemed quite helpful & told me about the warranty & how it works.

Dunno why the links to the bad thread comments above, others seem happy with their service, including ppl on here.

Maybe I will try again on Chrome then, and see what happens.....

Just a word of caution though (and I am far from expert on this subject)

I believe I am correct in saying (in layman's terms), that your credit card will only offer you protection IF you have taken reasonable steps to protect your card details. Entering your card number, expiry date CSV code into a website with less than satisfactory security certification may be perceived to be careless card use. Whether your card company would know or check up if there was a problem is anybody's guess. Just general advice, not necessarily pertaining to the previous posts.

Blimey ......that's a full garage. You've got a thing for older Kwaks then?

Back in Y2K I had a new ZX9R E1 (green obvs) to which I fitted a JMC swingarm, Ohlins shock, Dynojet, K&N, Factory ignition advance, Quill end can, braided lines etc etc. Think it dyno'd at something like 154bhp..not bad for minor mods I thought. Loved that bike, armchair comfy, however riding it year round just made it disintegrate.... Such a shame.
3 -2 - 1 ........you're back in the room.

For anyone who hasn't nodded off and is still looking for a camera.

Check out the Nikon map of authorized dealers if you are looking to take advantage of the cashback offer.

well it comes with its own app so I'll have to check the updates, but no I don't think so, just transmits a WiFi signal that your phone detects then allows you to transfer files
Now £335 guys!
