I bought this camera and its great. I personally wouldn't buy from Portus, not because its a grey import but because I don't trust them after ringing and emailing them a few times.

I've asked them different questions a few times and they've always been fast and efficient.

I'm not gloating, just sharing my previous experience. ☺️

You probably work for them being as it's your first deal. Same with most Portus deals on this site.

I bought this camera with them few months ago, did not have problem.Received camera with UK adaptor. Was same price but without 8GB card.
Camera is very good, battery life is far better than D5200.

No, I don't work for them.
Just because I've said that they've replied and it's my first post, doesn't mean that I do work for them, does it?!

I think it's a good price for it, hence the post. Nothing more.

You're welcome.

I have this camera from the same company! No complaints here. Heat added

I bought this camera from Portus last year.

2nd camera I've had from them.

Would not hesitate to purchase from them again.

From their website: "The price you see on the website is the price you will pay (except for UK orders of £250 or less, or for delivery destinations outside the UK, when delivery charges will apply - see Delivery Charges and Timing. By making a purchase on our website you are acting as the importer of the product and agree to Portus Digital making all delivery arrangements to your door, including customs clearance into the UK or other EU countries."

These are grey imports and VAT is evaded. From an Amateur Photographer (magazine) forum: "The usual model for these companies is that in placing an order you declare that you are the personal importer of the goods i.e. they are purchased abroad on your behalf and you assume responsibility for the payment of all taxes. If the company is acting faithfully as your agent there should be paperwork to show that VAT and customs duty was paid when the goods came through customs. As above this should be 24.2% of the sterling price of the goods at their point of sale."

The price on the website is the price you pay. There are no more import, customs or vat charges to pay.

It doesn't say that in their T&C's which forms the legal contract to "supply of goods", "receipt of payments", "transfer of ownership" etc.

Yes but your username is moleman

Excellent camera,

BUT STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY!

Awful customer service, very very rude and unprofessional. Hate to think what would happen if the camera went wrong. Boxes come opened and with no seal. Would not trust this company at all.

Hope it helps people!

Same experience. Utterly rude and unprofessional

Again : another "grey import" camera site allowed, when SLRHut still isn't.
Some consistency would be nice - alongside any explanation of why SLRHut posts aren't allowed. You know, something a little bit more convincing than "because they aren't allowed". (_;)

Amazing camera.

Says a '3 deals posted in 7 yrs' veteran

+1 negative comment. A mate called them to place an order last year, they said the camera was in stock and took his money. When the camera hadn't arrived the day after it should have he called them up and they said it wasn't in stock!! He was refunded but a poor setup.

Great camera, great price. I've used these guys twice now and been happy both times......no problems at all. I guess the question of how good a company is is how well they deal with your problems though.

Thanks for the comments; adding this company to my no buy list.

This or a Canon 650D?

what a shame i am tempted to buy this as an upgrade to my D90 but i wont be buying from this store..

I've purchased this from Portus. Fast delivery, good online chat service to answer any questions and a fantastic camera. I would say though that you're unlikely to be able insure this camera as it's not a UK product

Notice any difference in sharpness without AA filter?

why are you still ranting about slrhut and why noone will tell you why?
you were linked to a thread containing the terrible feedback about this company, i am sure if such a thread existed for portus then someone would have a look.

Just as an update -

You no longer get the 8GB card, you now get a free bag instead.

Mine's arrived after ordering last week np. So I can't see why all the detractors postings.
after all it cant possibly be jealousy.
Many thanks to OP.

It's come down in price now, camera with lens but no bag or sdcard now at £359 but £10 delivery on top, does anyone have any discount codes with Portus Digital??
