was posted yesterday at £273 and is now expired so I guess that makes this one hotter!

Be aware, this does not come with the VR (Vibration Reduction) Lens

Purchase compete!

Indepth review here dpreview.com/rev…60/

I was put off as it doesn't have auto-focus motor, so it's not very backwards compatible with some lenses.

All new consumer Nikons rely on the motor in the lens. Still a great camera at a very good price

Repeat post

Looks like a good deal, Nikons tend to hold their price pretty well too so would probably sell on for a minimal loss if you don't like it.

With regards to the lack of autofocus motor and VR, they're not essential features; having a built-in motor makes the camera compatible with older lenses but they tend to focus a little slower and noisier than the new lenses with a motor inside. As for VR, on a 55mm lens it's just a luxury - I'd say much more important for a telephoto (Would suggest a 55-200 VR as a good companion to this kit.)

Overall it's a good price for someone interested in DSLR photography but not wanting to make a huge investment.

old model, no automatic focus with older lenses, but good price anyways, I would go for olympus e-420 posted few days ago however, but its just me....

Are you sure the description is not an error on part of Argos. As far as I am aware the only lens sold with the D60 is the VR lens. I have one already.

It is unlikely Argos would repackage these cameras with the older non-VR lens which was originally sold with the D40/D40X kits.

But I could be worng I suppose.

Both state it comes with the VR lense so i would guess it is a mistake on the description but also not sure.

Has the d60 been replaced by the d3000?
Edited by: "daveredfern" 11th Sep 2010

I ordered this yesterday for my son who's off to uni. I had a NIGHTMARE paying for it on ebay as the seller only accepts paypal payments. No idea what was wrong as I've bought plenty of stuff off ebay before, but the trouble I had nearly put me off for life.

Good post and hot deal too. I think this has the edge over the olympus (good camera though) because it uses the SD card not card system.

There were 250 when I bought mine yesterday - 45 left now.

Excellent starter DSLR at an excellent price. Hot!

Hasn't the D3000 been replaced by the D3100 ...

Argos have often been the only people selling these low-end nikons with the non-VR lens, so that's what I would expect here.

Is it? The d3100 is nearly £200 more than the d3000 and d60.

i have the d60 from the last time they were selling them and it does no come with the vr lens but some people did get them.

How does this camera compare to the d80 model?

If you use TopCashBack, who offer 40% of Ebay's revenue on bid or Buy It Now items, I can only assume that you would accrue 40% of £27 for this transaction and so over a tenner cashback with this purchase.

I think i'm right Please feel free to correct me though.

Will this work properly (ie autofocus etc) with eth Nikon 1.8 50mm lens? This one: kenrockwell.com/nik…htm

it won't work with your lens - it needs more expensive afs (s means servo motor) to work - the nearest equivalent 50mm is the 50/1.4 AFS at around 250 notes.

Just bought one of these; only 17 left now! Brilliant deal; I have been looking for a decent bargain-priced DSLR for months now. I’ve always liked the look of my friend's D40's & D70's so I reckon for me, this D60 is a great entry into the world of DSLR's.

I’m no expert, but from the umpteen reviews I've read, I think the D80 is a higher-end, semi-pro DSLR, which has itself now been superseded by the Nikon D90. The main difference between the D60 & D80 is that the D80 has a body-mounted motor for the auto-focus function, whereas with the D60, you have to use lenses with in-built AF motors to enable auto-focussing. If that makes sense?

I just need to find a decent 55-200mm zoom lens now, which by great coincidence, there are a couple of good deals available currently:

Thanks for your help. It looks like you either pay a lot more for the sAFS lens or a lot more for the camera body.

The D60 has been replaced by the D3000 which itself is about to be replaced with the new D3100.

Will work with this lens but manual focus only. You need an AF-S lens with built in servo motor to focus with the D60 as there is no autofocus in the camera body.

Mine came today - whoa this is good stuff! Stunning piece of kit for price.
